i think it shows how ludicrous the art world is. The Chapman brothers are totally aware that they can just create something else that will be worth just as much cos of who they are. It's like the chief wine-maker at Chateau Margaux asking someone to use one of their bottles of vintage claret as a target on a shooting range. I mean - they can probably sell that for even more now as 'Arachnikitty destroyed by Adrian Searle - as seen on Derren Brown'

i think they where all in on it, derren and the artists that is. I dont think the painting was real at 1:38 you can see the surface of the picture does not appear painted, the critic didnt know any better though.

the point is that this isn't part of the show because Derren did not intend that the picture got slashed, it happened spontaneously after the "trick proper" had finished. of course there's always the possibility that it's actually a really supreme bit of misdirection (to the viewers)...but in that case, you'd think they would have broadcast it ;)
