  • I was there...on the inside in the stands right above the first four cars. I stayed with a local family whose son was an interpreter for the race. He gave this 20 year old American pit passes that got me everywhere including inside the Drivers rest and relax area across from the pits. I'll never forget it.

  • Most of them didn't fasten seatbelts...

  • They usually waited to fasten them on the Mulsanne straight, while steering with their knees. Crazy.

  • @tankslapper - fortunately in 1968 Jacky Ickx started only after his belts had been

    properly fastened..and won the race.

    A one minute delay at the start was abs.irrelevant in such a long term race.

    In 1968 Rodriguez and Bianchi won! Ickx won in 1969, he walked the traditional start line scramble and fastened himself properly before starting... ironically John Wolfe was killed in his 917 at Maison Blanche partially as a result of not fastening his belts, although I don't think it would have saved him?! 1970 was a standing start from the pitlane...
