National Public Radio executive Ron Schiller believes that NPR can get along just fine without federal funding. The majority of the American people agree. Time to cut the tax-funded apron strings and let NPR survive on its own in the marketplace. Any budget shortfalls can easily be made up by wealthy leftists like George Soros, Michael Moore, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand, to name just a few.
I'll put this simply. NPR was in the wrong for firing Williams over comments which, frankly, were just his opinion. But this push to bring down the entire network over the issue? Isn't that just a magnified version of the same wrong? If I shouldn't strike a match, is the appropriate response to burn my house down? I've gotten more out of 30 minutes listening to NPR than I get out of a day of watching any 24 hour news network (be it Fox or CNN or anywhere between).

NPR is not Public Radio in anything but name. It is a non-profit membership-based organization ran by a board of directors. It is a 501(c)(3). It receives no direct government funding. It applies and competes for the same grants that everyone is entitled to apply and receive. They make up less than 2% of NPR's budget, and are mostly for their classical music programs. The Bill to "defund NPR" is actually a bill to stop government art endowments. These are a sneaky lot, these politicians.
I strongly disagree with Juan Williams on economic policies, but I think that he is a direct striaight shooter. He is honest and he doesn't insult people; he also seems to truly want to hear out other opinions. I enjoy his point of view. I believe that Juan is a stand up guy and wish him the best of luck.
