The linearity did not bother me because it was similar to FF10 witch is still my favorite FF game. Because of it flaws this game is not for everyone, but that does not really matter because I had a great time with it.
@TheEnd501 Yes SIMILAR to X. X had branching paths, hidden areas, puzzles, only the first couple of dungeons were linear, it took me a while to get past it but they were great really. Drop a piece of string on the ground, and that's your XIII dungeon; it's pathetic. X also had a World Map, (albeit point and click,) with hidden areas. See this is where I am baffled. You had a GREAT time with this game..? GREAT? I would understand okay, or decent but... the game is just MAJORLY flawed.

Yes FF13 was not the best final fantasy but it was not the worst (FF2 was the worst). FF13 is a game that I would not recommend anyone to buy without trying it. Some people can stand the story and in my opinion the combat can be really fun (that is if you turn off auto-battle).

Also, after halfway into XIII you CANNOT play this game without auto-battle, trust me, I tried and tried because that's how I wanted to play it, it's too fast; you'll die. The game was created to use auto-battle and the players input was meant to be just paradigm-shifting. It's pretty poor.
Because of how linear it is, (and You CAN'T say it is not linear), it makes the game feel like a "Interactive Movie", I don't have a problem with that, it is a different style, we have to keep in mind they are using a new engine, and well, I hope the gameplay improves from now on, making it atleast abit more open.

@Abono2ta Most of what you said I agree with but, there is no legitimate reason for game over if your leader, yes LEADER dies. This is why it's ridiculous, in P3 if MINATO died it was game over because you're supposed to be IMMORTAL it is essential to the story. But in FFXIII, you can assign ANYONE leader, and if they die, it's over, that is called a cheap, corner cutting way, of increasing game difficulty, it is VERY unprofessional because there is no reason too.

@grineti5 FF is a RPG. its a in depth fantasy storytelling that you play with a group of other people you would meet along the way. battling monsters/bosses through your adventure. trying to reach your final destination. gathering different potions/weapons that will help you. thats practically how all the FF games are.
Never bought one of these. Have a friend way into the series. Always played them at his house. I just have to say, if they didn't have the gay Pokemon Colosseum style fighting, these would be perfect games... The Japanese people must hate having to fight right away without getting under attack or saying "Round 1!" or "Match begin!"
i think this game is absolutely brilliant, has the exception of battle mode, I'm not used to playing well and would have been much better to fight in real time, but after all I love it!

I like this game, i like it alot. But, sadly, i haev got to say it is so slow. I have played previous final fantasy games such as 7 and 8 where they are slow at times, btu at least there you can go out exploring, maybe try to catch a chocobo and search around the world. But, sadly, in this game, it is far too linear for that. There are only a couple of areas for exploration. The animation is great, and so is the battle system, but i'm stuck nea rthe end because its too hard.
Battle system.... well u must note. That's the start of the game. Where there are virtually no skills or spells to chain, and no Paradigm Shifting has been learned. U can't begin to understand the full mechanics of battle until Chapter 3 or so.

70's clothing which I don't really mind much. But as I mentioned before my biggest problem is the battle system. It's nothing like a FF game. I could understand wanting to try something different, but they pretty much took out things that made an FF game an FF game.

I think it's funny when people talk about only controlling 1 player and it being too easy compared to previous games. This game is hard as hell unless you know how to utilize the AI of your team and their paradigms. The gameplay itself is so reliant on adapting your team and your fighting style to different situations in the midst of a battle. I think this was a genuis idea...just think...it beat the hell out of X-2 !
I agree. Alot of people complaining, judge upon first glance. Or haven't even made it past chapter 2. You wont even imagine the brilliance of the battle system until Chapter 5. I play World of Warcraft.... and the Paradigm system allows for the same strategic concepts as used in WoW boss encounters

And often times the things critics pick about is hardly something essential to gameplay or quality, but rather their own hang ups, and that can result in VERY unfair reviews. As I said before, this is not my "Taste" but I see quality in the production, it is a great ip. I am more of a Star Wars/DCUO MMO/Mass Effect/Shooter kind of guy so this misses on those point, but for FF, to me looks great

Wow people are really being douchebags about this game. Seriously I've been playing FF since I was a kid played all of'em, 10 is gay as hell 12 didn't like that much either but this one I can dig. The battle system is really good, controlling one character makes sense if you use the system correctly and change paradigms, being healed after battle puts no dent in the challenge although I could do without it, my only real complaint is it is so linear. id have to disagree sounds like someone is in bad game purchase denial. I really dont see any replay value in this game. with only being able to control one person it limits the point of even getting different magic for each character, because you have to shift the whole paradigm only to have them randomly using what they think would be the best solution. This is basically a final fantasy used to lure customers. I like finding the best solution myself and always have.

You fo get to play as diffrent characters at diffrent times in thew game and even choose who you want to play with i think later in the game it sounds like you have not even played the game if you think you only play with one person through the whole game
Even if this game got auto battle, it's is a hard mother to work with, especially them nasty baddies with 100000 HP. You can also remove auto battle if you feel that is to cheap. It's fast paced unlike the other ones, you only control one character and you better make sure you know what you are doing.If you want to control the other character, then you are going to have to make someone else leader which I don't mind.

Also, after halfway into XIII you CANNOT play this game without auto-battle, trust me, I tried and tried because that's how I wanted to play it, it's too fast; you'll die. The game was created to use auto-battle and the players input was meant to be just paradigm-shifting. It's pretty poor.

Because of how linear it is, (and You CAN'T say it is not linear), it makes the game feel like a "Interactive Movie", I don't have a problem with that, it is a different style, we have to keep in mind they are using a new engine, and well, I hope the gameplay improves from now on, making it atleast abit more open.

@Abono2ta Most of what you said I agree with but, there is no legitimate reason for game over if your leader, yes LEADER dies. This is why it's ridiculous, in P3 if MINATO died it was game over because you're supposed to be IMMORTAL it is essential to the story. But in FFXIII, you can assign ANYONE leader, and if they die, it's over, that is called a cheap, corner cutting way, of increasing game difficulty, it is VERY unprofessional because there is no reason too.

@grineti5 FF is a RPG. its a in depth fantasy storytelling that you play with a group of other people you would meet along the way. battling monsters/bosses through your adventure. trying to reach your final destination. gathering different potions/weapons that will help you. thats practically how all the FF games are.

Never bought one of these. Have a friend way into the series. Always played them at his house. I just have to say, if they didn't have the gay Pokemon Colosseum style fighting, these would be perfect games... I like this game, i like it alot. But, sadly, i haev got to say it is so slow. I have played previous final fantasy games such as 7 and 8 where they are slow at times, btu at least there you can go out exploring, maybe try to catch a chocobo and search around the world. But, sadly, in this game, it is far too linear for that. There are only a couple of areas for exploration. The animation is great, and so is the battle system, but i'm stuck nea rthe end because its too hard.

Battle system.... well u must note. That's the start of the game. Where there are virtually no skills or spells to chain, and no Paradigm Shifting has been learned. U can't begin to understand the full mechanics of battle until Chapter 3 or so.

I think it's funny when people talk about only controlling 1 player and it being too easy compared to previous games. This game is hard as hell unless you know how to utilize the AI of your team and their paradigms. The gameplay itself is so reliant on adapting your team and your fighting style to different situations in the midst of a battle. I think this was a genuis idea...just think...it beat the hell out of X-2 !

While movies are created for entertainment and art only, Games ARE ALSO, Art, Entertainment and WISH FULFILLMENT. And often times the things critics pick about is hardly something essential to gameplay or quality, but rather their own hang ups, and that can result in VERY unfair reviews. As I said before, this is not my "Taste" but I see quality in the production, it is a great ip. I am more of a Star Wars/DCUO MMO/Mass Effect/Shooter kind of guy so this misses on those point, but for FF, to me looks great

And now it's just too complex and intimidating. I don't have the right mentality to play FF anymore. I still remember being stuck on an airship with no way back fighting a big ass monster that doesn't fucking die after changing discs. I cried when my save game was gone though.

@ThePolio232 You do realise how ironic it is to call people "fags" for not liking a game, when in the same comment you called FFX "gay as hell" and said you didn't like FFXII either, guess that means you're a fag as well right? Whenever I come onto an FF video it's always full of immaturity and contradiction, when are these "fans" going to grow up? FF used to be dark and gritty and adults were the focus of the game, that's it's true roots, if you've played em "all" you would know.

No no, I dont have something against this 13 part, but I just miss the old FF7,8,9 parts because the whole story especially in FF7 was just an awsome, the story, the music, the design just everything FF7 was for me like a dream just with openend eyes! And I really miss it I unfortunatly sold my FF,7 8 Games I stupid! I meant it would be great if the could bring the same games out with just! betther graphics, I would even pay the double price for it!

thats crazy dude.....its like a turn based god of war. linear gameplay ruined the hell out of the FF experience....this cant even be qualified to be called an RPG because the only rolls you can play is battle cutscene battle cutscene battle cutscene battle cutscene i mean zzzzzzzzzzzz.

@Crimescene26 Its not like God of war you might be right that its not like most FF games and that's because they dont want you to grind to lvl up so much and more so you get through the storyline you use strategy instead of just being able to kill because of your lvl and in this FF only controlling one person makes sense more then one would be to hectic To expect them to just do the same type of game over and over and over is not right to me

id have to disagree sounds like someone is in bad game purchase denial. I really dont see any replay value in this game. with only being able to control one person it limits the point of even getting different magic for each character, because you have to shift the whole paradigm only to have them randomly using what they think would be the best solution. This is basically a final fantasy used to lure customers. I like finding the best solution myself and always have.

ok from your last comment you sewnt me it sounds as if you have not even played the game you do get to play as other characters just one at a time so their is a point in getting new magic for your party members right in the beginning you play as snow and vainille and lighting in diffrent parts You seem to have i dont have this game so im going to bash it Syndrom.

You fo get to play as diffrent characters at diffrent times in thew game and even choose who you want to play with i think later in the game it sounds like you have not even played the game if you think you only play with one person through the whole game

Even if this game got auto battle, it's is a hard mother to work with, especially them nasty baddies with 100000 HP. You can also remove auto battle if you feel that is to cheap. It's fast paced unlike the other ones, you only control one character and you better make sure you know what you are doing.If you want to control the other character, then you are going to have to make someone else leader which I don't mind.

final fantasy always looks great.. and i get wanting to not change up the battle system too much but why do they ALWAYS use the same damn turn based style. if they changed it like kingdom hearts or god of war status they would get like 70% more fans

I guess you don't have it yet then :P? well dont get disappointed if you're looking for a final fantasy classic style this game isn't for you its like a whole new game i think but i totally love it :D u really get to know the characters ^^ and the gameplay is nice in my opinion
