  • WOW!!! That was great. Yes I think P is hot too...

  • A great talent. I own this DVD of 'Die Zauberflöte" and watch it from time to time.

  • She's so adorable. I just want to put her in a wagon and pull her around with me.

  • Dorothea is just the most realistic, believable Pamina!! The Queens usually get the accolade due to those 2 arias, yet a poor Pamina characterisation just will reduce the impact of The magic flute. No chance of this happening with DR.She seems to work well both here with N Dessay and with DDamrau.simply brilliant,jk

  • papageno is hott

  • She's born to sing Mozart !!!!!! Marvelous !!!!

  • One of the better versions, really she is just amazing. I love it very very much, thank you very much for your sharing.

  • Thank god the conductor insisted on the correct tempo for this piece and did his homework.

  • On the very top notes, of In my Heart, she sounds like she shoved it just a little.

  • What a glorious voice! Beautiful.

  • very beautyfull singing but who designed paminas costume???

  • All of the videos I have watched of this Opera "Die Zauberflote" have been the best in acting, singing, and set. Love it!!! Love Mozart.

  • Красивый тембр..

  • Who's the conductor? And who's Papageno?

  • papageno looked like jim carey

  • What a beautiful production. Roschmann is as always marvelous.

  • is this available on dvd?

  • yep, i think you might want to check amazon

  • I looked for it on Amazon, but couldn't find it.

  • @felipetavares79 amazoncom/Mozart-Die-Zauberflote-Dorothea-Roschmann/dp/B000WXR4X6/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1276912942&sr=8-9

  • @spunkiesag12 dont forget to add the dot between amazon and com :). sorry for the delay.

  • I don't see how this could be done better. She sings so beautifully and so movingly. Röschmann is always wonderful.

  • Who cares who is singing? She's Ok. It's all about the

    MOZART!! Biatches! Viva Maestro!!

  • so lush so lyrical.

    bravi

  • oh wow! Her voice is so beautiful!! One of my favs now.

  • Sorry but I dont get what all the fuss is about? her voice sounds fine and she is a good singer, but better in this aria then Kathleen battle? or Lucia Popp? or anna moffo? you gotta be kidding me

  • she is also a really good actress who can enunciate each word clearly... And unlike all the others you mention she is actively singing in our day... Is she better than Popp or Moffo... I don't think that anyone here said anything like that. I prefer Popp to Moffo. But that does not mean that Popp is better. It means that I like her singing more... By the way, I agree with DoryViolet she is wonderful in 2003...

  • i believe her diction is due to the fact that she is a native german :)

  • I agree, but I will say she has a lovely interpretation that appeals to me... I won't compare although I agree with you, but she has something special;).

  • I like... I really do. Lovely tone.

  • Supplement: Elisabeth Grummer sings .....

Owner of this Video is " iforgeti"

  • I listened to it, Grummer and Roschmann are both wonderful!!!!

Listen also to Popp and Anna Moffo... and you have my 4 favourite Paminas!!

  • not to forget Kiri te Kanawa !!

  • Brava !

A recommendation to all fans of W.A. Mozarts operas (and no negative judgement on Dorothea Röschmanns great interpretation) : Listen to Elisabeth Grümmer / Grummer singing this aria and wonder!

  • It's priceless! I wish there was video of it!

  • meravigliosa!

  • Brava!

  • she should sing like this more often. all she needs is a bit more legato in her singing, especially in her countess and shed really be even more excellent. the tone of the voice and expression need no work at all, they are already beautiful.

  • i definately agree. she should sing this much more legato, well, at least in my opinion :)

  • Stunning, absolutely stunning. This is no easy aria to perform.

  • She' s somewhere else. You can see it in her eyes.

  • My favorite pamina i've heard/

  • Certified Intergalactic! Röschmann is beautiful! Luv ya...

  • Wow! Amazing, you can actually the character coming forward with her voice. You can hear how disappointed, and sad she is.

  • Wonderfull voice ,wonderfull music.

  • Wao!! She's wonderful!! I'm simply in love with that voice! Brava!

  • singing and acting are wonderful ... but that's some dress ...

  • She is so good. I heard her sing Mahler 4 with Boulez and Staatskapelle Berlin last night...They were just great...

  • Yes, she's German. She's from Flensburg.

  • Which words are wrong? Is the pronunciation wrong, or just a mistake? I think her diction is really good. I don't hear no mistakes...

  • does anyone know where i can get a dvd of this performance??

  • Yes - try Amazon. Search for Die Zauberflote Rancatore. It's the same production as this video, but it has Rancatore as the queen instead of Dessay.

  • thank you!

  • You know, just as a side note.... Papageno is pretty hot.

  • Agreed. =)

  • I really don't think dynamic has anything to do it. It's really just about interpretation.

Roschmann's interpretation, in my opinion, emphasizes Pamina's angst. You would be on the verge of screaming and crying if someone you love refuses to speak to you, wouldn't you?

It's also not exactly screaming. Her vocal technique is perfectly intact, minus some legato things, judging from what I hear.

  • well ultimately its personal preference. i like the sweet, pure and brighter sound of a light lyric soprano, which someone like dawn upshaw is. roschmann's voice sounds like a full lyric soprano, like a renee fleming or kiri te kawana, which is too dark for my taste, so thats why i really dont like how she sings this song.

  • This really is a personal preference. Some just prefer a Pamina that sings the other -ina's and some like the te Kanawa's in this role. I'm personally on the fence as I like several different interpreters of the role. Such a subjective art. I will agree that Ms. Roschmann is not my favorite here either.

  • yeah it is all really subjective, its all a matter of personal preference.

  • Is this the same performance as where Natalie Dessay plays the Queen of the Night?

  • Yes. You can see her when Natalie Dessay sings Der Holle Rache. Look at the performance when she (Dessay) is wearing the blue dress with the heart shaped sparkling collar.

  • Yes and no. The telecast has Dessay, the DVD has Desiree Rancatore.

  • It's quite amazing. :)

  • Beautifully expressive. Not impressed with her choice on 3:45- should be softer, but gorgeously ended.

  • Magnifique performance. Pour ma part, je trouve que c'est l'une des meilleures pour interpréter ce rôle...

Quand je vois tous ces commentaires favorables, j'ai l'impression que je ne suis pas la seule à penser ça ^^

  • wish I could read French.

    fabulous performance.

  • Why don't you wish to understand German instead? That would give you a more profoundly enlightening experience than just reading the subs.

  • Well, I'm learning the song myself, so I have the translation and am learning to match the German with its English translation. But it would be nice to be able to read the French subs also. :D

  • bonito , muy bonito!:)

  • FoxyGrandpa if you have Seid uns zum zweitenmal willkommen from this opera, could you PLEASE post it? Thank you!

  • She is simply magnificant! Please listen to the new recording of Ein Deutsches Requiem with Sir Simon Rattle. Her singing makes You think of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.

  • Completely agree about Schwarzkopf!

  • dorothea ist immer besondere auf alles was sie singt, egl was.she is uncredible.

  • lovely, expressive, not perfect but touching. thank you!

  • brava!!! una voce soave!!!

  • Perfection, absolutely wonderful! I really really love it. Some of the other Ach, Ich Fuhl's on youtube, are just Awful!!! Thanks for sharing this with us all.

  • I loved what she did with 2:01

Whenever I'd sing that part staccato I never understod why Mozart had written that there... Why there?

Seeing this performance Röschmann is almost... sobbing when she sings this! Amazing. This is one of my favorite Pamina...

  • when i first learned this song, my teacher told me that she's almost sobbing on(2:01)

  • That is Mozart's intent when he staccatoed those notes. Beautifully expressive, isn't it?

  • j'était en coulise.Cétait c'était splendide.

    Phylin

  • en coulisses à bastille?? quelle chance!!

  • De Palais Garnier!))

  • en coulisses de Palais Garnier ))

  • i love her in this role

  • Very beautiful and truly Mozartean! Her singing is very delicate, velvety and moving. I think I need to know more about Dorothea Röschmann. ;-)

  • omg! her first note made me cry..what a great voice she has

  • Can anyone tell me where this clip is from? Is this production commercially available?

  • Oooops, my bad - this is the Paris one. She's just as sublime on the Covent Garden one too!

  • yes she's wonderful in 2003 too!!

  • Malade

  • Nice voice!

  • I love dorothea

  • Oh my................

She is AMAZING. Such beautiful singing
