As an artist I am supportive of public support for the arts. It is just that, you will be very hard-pressed to find an econ. major who would use arts as a factor. The arts are a product just like any other, an important product mind you, but a product. Secondly outright giving money to anyone is a dangerous political ground. Doing so has in the past created a backlash against public funding for the arts.
