DRM is another example of how the executives who make decisions don't understand what people on a day to day basis do, even witrh the products they sell. When a song is used in a home video for example, friends who see the video ask, What song was that? - I want that"...and they go and purchase it. It's the same concept as Youtube. But if I can't move the song from Itunes to my moviemaker/both items I've paid for, then I'm limited in my creativity and the song won't become part of new creativity
Interetesting discussion. The future is already playing out, globally. Those who write unusual, new, arcane music are suffering worse than ever. People really don't want to pay for music. Youtube... we watch while it remains free. peace
DRM is just another cookie cutter idea dreamt up by aging audio, video and literature execs that are so afraid of losing revenue that they cant comprehend where and how to apply added value in a digital products life cycle. 1.Cross platform or bust. 2.Treating your clients like criminals and denying the right to privacy and freedom of expression will make you lose revenue much faster.
@gits6666 I strongly advise watching the rest of this discssion using link given by MRDigitunes. Guy on the right describes excellent suggestions for sales model of resellers to change from unit based to service based and for music labels to change the way they develop, market and sell artists.
The guy on the right seems like he knows what he's talking about and has a clear view on what needs to be done. I can't say the same for the older guy in the blue shirt who seems like he's part of the old guard.
DRMs make me want to buy less & less music. They invade my privacy, monitor every single part of a song I listen to, my turntables can't read them, monitor every single I do on my computer, & I have to buy software to remove it!
DRMs are nothing but spyware files that should be outlawed. I say let the corporations supporting DRMs suffer! If they wanted to treat their consumers like criminals, they should just arrest us all! Fuck US Congress for supporting these crooks!
I have an suggestion for your extra sock. Give me a break. Pay attention, DRM isn't working and it is unreasonable. I purchase music and it only plays where the company says it can, PLEASE! I bought it so it is my choice where and when I use it! Period!
Let me make this simple: What will M$ do if few people upgrade? Why do you think Vista is so much slower than Xp? The Linux community has seen a noticeable increase in it's users how come? People know about DRM and especially Vista and are rebeling against it in droves. M$ has just alienated it's users perhaps for the last time. To treat users as criminals will be their final undoing. M$ has a big problem on their hands people don't trust them anymore.

I gladly pay for music, but I truly hate to the core DRM that limits how I can use my music.

If consumers even know there's a DRM, what it is, and how it works, we've already failed. - Peter Lee

There are no "pros" to DRM, at all.
It IS epic failure, case in point.

the pros of DRM is the artists. who are getting paid less for doing the same job
