I remember seeing this scene on a show dedicated the Alfred Hitchcock, I think it was made before he died and he was sitting there in the show. They showed this and it scared the crap out of me, I was a kid and I wouldn't take a shower after that. Incidentally I loved the parody done by Bugs Bunny in Looney Toons Back in Action.
I'd like to see a remake of Psycho 2, one that sticks closer to the book, which was intended to satirize all the slasher movies like Halloween and Friday the 13th.
i would like to see another remake of psycho.. not in an attempt to out do the original, but to stay closer to the novel so it's more of a stand alone movie. blasphemy, i know, but it's already been remade once so the damage has been done.... not to mention the 3 sequels.
@VanTX89 In my opinion, if you KNOW what's BEST for YOU, you'll AVOID the re-make at ALL COST! No, I haven't seen the re-make, myself, but, C' MON, we're talkin' PSYCHO, here! Unless you're ready to face a "firing squad," LEAVE THE ORIGINAL PSYCHO ALONE!
@AngelofAnguish If anything just update the sound and picture quality and re-release it in theaters. They have a cult following. People love these films, they WILL see them. So there's an easy recoup factor.

My mum saw both Psycho and The Birds at a young age and although it's been years since she's seen them but she said they terrified her. Hitchcock knows what he's doing
Anyone knew the scenes were the hotel guy was eating candy wasn't actually intentional. Anthony use to eat a bunch of candy before the scene then stuff it all in before he had to go out untill they just stopped caring and let him go out with a handful of candy.
@TheZombiesharks I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who doesn't see The Birds as all that scary. It was good, but it didn't have the atmosphere of these films: that eerie mood that pervades every aspect of true horror.
I remember watching Psycho then Rear Window. Man Psycho was great but Rear Window was amazing. Watching the story pan out the way it did, in room and one setting was truly amazing.
Alfred Hitchcock wanted psycho to be a low budget film, so to save the cost on buying fake blood he shot it in black and white and just used chocolate powder as blood.
@legendarywerewolf206 Just a quick gag in the movie Wayne's World. Basically, it was from a brief clip of one character, Garth, sitting at a donut shop, playing with his food. He makes a figure out of donuts and then reenacts the psycho scene. I recommend you see that film. As Wayne would say, it's "Excellent! Ch'yah!"
@smallredrocks He does, don't worry. I think you'll agree... But I think you have to be stupid not to love this movie. James is a big fan of film, no less. He HAS to like it.
I dont know why I watch monster madness because I am an easily scared person when it comes to horror movies but not so much the japanese giant monsters like Godzilla and Gamera
This was one of the best horror films ever made. Don't be put off by it's lack of color, it's got ingenuity written all over it. The fact that it doesn't use any supernatural elements make the film even more chilling.
I don't really think you said enough about the movie here. You could've atleast mentioned the creepy house, or motel, his obsession with his mother, or even the lead character's name.
Of the many Hitchcock films I've seen, I always picked Psycho as his best film because of how recognizable it is thanks to its twists and its sequels. Anthony Perkins make a great Norman Bates because he's both psychotic and sympathetic like a Lon Chaney character but without the makeup.
@ScaryReviews I agree! In my opinion, also, the fact that there ARE people LIKE Norman Bates, or WITH Norman Bates' "mental condition," LIVING IN THE MODERN ERA. If it WASN'T FOR Psycho, I DON'T THINK I'd be a horror fan, TODAY.
Whenever there's a ridiculous overkill scene in movies (ie the shower scene), I always ask "Jeez, do ya think you stabbed/shot him/her enough yet?" in a sarcastic voice. Don't really know why I do it, maybe I'm a bit PSYCHO! (see wut i did thar?)
i saw this in my art of film class. i actually jumped during the shower scene even though you saw Norman outside the curtains. it was so sudden and the music was perfect.
the real shock in my opinion was when you find out who the killer really is. you find out at the exact same time the movie decides to scare the crap out of you.
@TenderTrap86 In my opinion, Alfred Hitchcock got his point across! In my opinion, what Psycho did for shower-taking, JAWS did for swimming, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre did for meat-eating!
I watched this and said to my dad that the butcher knife was just overly used, but he told me that Psycho was the orginal knife movie and that this is the movie that brought the classic butcher knife of doom to life.
