  • People, please read A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies, by Bartolome De Las Casas. This book discusses by first hand account what the Spanish were doing to the Arawak (i.e. indigenous population) or Taino people of the Caribbean. This was is account of what he saw and its pretty stark historical account of what the Spanish did.

  • I AM WHITE OUTSIDE BUT BLACK IN MY HEART...I AM BORICUA!!!

I WILL NOT SEE COLOR BUT PUERTO RICAN....PEACE BRO.

  • Its sad that they teach all puerto ricans living in the territory that they all are part of three races, when it is no different then the US. It looks like many puerto ricans from the states need to take a trip to Loiza, Puerto Rico, and learn what everything every one loves about being a boricua comes from there, they also need to go to places like the district of choco in colombia and other parts of latin America.

  • Vaso de Colores, got it.

  • Yo whats this song? Takes me back to PR.

  • i should not have comeon your video with my commints im just a tainocentric guy my bad

  • @boricuamovement Not a problem, you can be tainocentric, but your comments before seem more Eurospanish centric and racist. Broaden your out look .

  • I love this song!!! Me Voy pal Puerto Rico!!!

  • @boricuamovement You fool, no one said Boricua came from any where other than the Tainos. And stop the bullshit, no one is claiming Boricua or Puerto Rico in the name of Africans. Damn , how many times must I say it? I'm INCLUDING african ancestry IN WITH the people and culture of Puerto Rico. And what does a Boricua look like? See you prove my point. Did Roberto Clemente look like a Boricua? Did Ismael Rivera look like a Boricua? Does Tego Calderone look like a boricua?

  • Comment removed

  • @boricuamovement Not really, you hold your self back. Puerto Rico is a slave to the US why? because you didnt up enough for independence. When the Puerto Rican ran out money who's fault was that? Not blacks as they dont run the Gov in Puerto Rico. So stop the bullshit and face your own damn failures.

  • Puerto Rican Pride! Puerto Rican Independence!!

  • Not all Puerto Ricans have African influence. Some have African and European backgrounds.

Whats pisses me off is that Blacks are aways complaining about something. Stop complaining!

I like how he rattles off the percent of influence......right? How do you know that the food has African influence? Just because u say it does....doesnt make it true!

I am Puerto Rican and I am proud of my African and European Background but I dont need u to tell me that.

  • @ricoumc062904 No, Because Historians say so. And good for you. But look at the comments and see many people were surprised at this information , others side they were happy that some one finally let it known.

  • @ricoumc062904

Thats some bull shit, because most Puerto Ricans have African roots, either its alot and it shows or its not alot and doesn't show. Alot of us have Afro's and Curly hair, and we don't get that from our white ancestors or the Tainos. We have a huge number of Black Puerto Ricans. Must of the Island is Mullato.

Either way we are all Puerto Rican and we are a mix of the three. So quit dividing our people. Like I said we are Puerto Rican.

  • @ricoumc062904 I am african i can tell you that carribbean food i(ncluding puerto rican) looks african

  • ima dark Puerto Rican too!!! PUERTO RICANS ARE A MIXED OF AFRICAN ROOTS AND SPANISH ROOTS AND A BIT OF TAINO ROOTS..

    im proud of our heritage..

  • yeah im dark Puerto Rican too .. there alot of dark boricuas!!! thats what makes us Puerto Rican.. Puerto Ricans are really African and European mixed.. so were mullato and we come in all shades

  • @MegaMecla puerto ricans are caucasian with african influence, i wouldnt call them mulatto. average PR has 30% of african ancestry, its as much as i.e. Rashida Jones or mariah carey has of black ancestry.

dominicans are a mulatto nation tho.

  • @Rockstafeller you have your first sentence wrong ...most puerto ricans are taino boriqua with african n caucasian influences or share a triracial blend....so stop trying to exclude their taino ndn heritage..why!? bc of colonization took place doesnt mean they r just a mullato

  • Thanks for representing. Much love.

  • Whats with the Afrocentrism? I mean, I live in the island and I dont care if im whiter or blacker...Do you live in the states or something? Because damn we dont really care about our color of our skin...and no; we dont "left out" the african heritage... we just say were puerto rican..that's it. JESUS CHRIST whats with the race!!!! that doesn't even exist!! Its just pigmentation!! yes we like bongos(black)..but yes we love using the R from the throat(spanish) :/ mixed=better genes(scientifically)

  • THESE ARE STRAIGHT UP AFRICANS. CONO.

  • awesome work dude.. knowledge is power.. people need to simply realize we are full of culture and relate to our african roots most then none.. i truly love my puerto rican culture, but i also relate to other african cultures just as much. 1 love..

  • I am a white puertorican and I agree with you 100%. I believe that the African influence has been and still is the biggest part of our culture. From music to art to food it is all African influeneced. Keep up the good work.

  • I usually don't comment on videos some of you so called "Latinos" are really getting to me. Why can't you people accept the fact that there are black people in every ethnicity not only white and asian.

He didn't make the video for you he made it for the Proud Afro-Boriquens he is not saying that every single person in puerto rico is black he was just pointing out that Rosie Perez (who is also Afro-Boriquen) left out a few things.

why can't you people just let us be proud of our heritage

  • Some people say that Rosie's documentary was white washed? Did she bleach the faces of Her cousin, grandmother, father and guest Felipe Luciano. If anything she had more immages of darker skinned puerto Ricans. She dedicated a big part of the documentary to Don Pedro Albizu Campos. Is he a white Puerto Rican? If you want to say that she didnt go into depth about the African roots then thats one thing but to say that the documentary was white washed is wrong

  • Thank you,!!! WELL DONE ....VIVA AFRICA, VIVA BORICUA

  • fuck man... i gotta ask.. what's that song played at the start

  • @busessuck1 "Vasos en colores" by Marvin Santiago

  • many Mixed Raced people always have a problem with colour and race because people view one half of them as superior to the other.

thats why the Africaness of PR is hidden and not celebrated or mentioned

many are still associating blackness with negativity just like the white spanish people who stole Puerto Rico did

  • @Applebaum that is true, there are more black latinos then there is black US Americans "African American" and they have a stronger African presence

  • peace to you, AfroBoriquen for contributing to the intelectual health of the African diaspora.

  • I love this video man, boricuas come in all varieties !!!

  • Keeny seems that you are the full of hate. Do you know about Loiza and La Perla en Ponce? Have you ever hear about Rio Piedras and Santurce. Why don't you go to any of those places and tell them that they are not Puertorriquenos? Have you even dance to the rythm of the black drums? Read bother, read, educate yourself before you open your mouth. If you are a real borucua you know that the color doesn't matter. Obiously, Kenny you are fake. Jose Rafael

  • why does everyone always gotta argue about some type of racial shit? im tired of this black shit, this white shit, and brown shit!! all latinos need to stop hating on one another!! theres black and white latinos everywere!! look, i know plenty of boricuas from mexico and other places of latin america. my dad is mexican, but his roots date back to puerto rico! my mom is half puerto rican!! and her family is of afro heritage in puerto rico! that saying.. we are universal!! there is no pure breed!

  • I am affro borinqueno and i am not darksin, i am actualy liteskin, but that dont change the fact that i am afro borinqueno, taino, Arawak, Morro which is my nationality, and honestly that why alot of Borinqueno due date more domincan woman and realte for 2 dominicans, Pero yo amo esa vieja mi borinquena... more then anybody

  • all spaniards that came to borinken were not white, many conquistadors were black, check your history and you will see that ths spaniards adored black women, a hughly prized possesion to them and they killed off the tainos. no record of spaniards marrying tainos, only africans married tainos ( loiza). we as blacks had honor, the spaniards had hate and disdaine for the tainos, if they were alive today would they love the so-called white puerto rican?

  • you should put my pic in this documentary, there isn't one puerto rican in the world darker than me!!!!! hahaha, 100% bori papa!

  • remember history people, conquistadors from spain to puerto rico where white and blacks. when the U.S took over, race played a huge part in puerto rico as well. if you were a black puerto rican you drank from black ony fountains, ate at only black dinners, and you were treated unfairly. thats why you have this i'm white puerto rican, a fear of backlash so they follow the master.

  • Puerto Rican are one people. Black white, brown stop trying to do what the white man has done for years but creating more devision.

  • Sorry player..But you are full of it. When Rosie did the film she included every Puerto Rican. You are doing the same thing the colonizers did DIVIDE just for self interest.

By the way Rosie if Afro Boriqua, and you bro full of shit.

  • @YOLT1952 No playa , your the one full of it. Im not dividing ,Im bringing together by getting others to see and recognize a part of Puerto Rican history that is not given its proper attention. You are doing the same thing the colonizers did, by ignoring the accomplishments of these people.. So , its you who is full of it!!!!

  • Based on some of the comments, it seems some people want to show their ignorance before doing research and, in some cases, even reading something doesn't enlighten them. Ignorance doesn't cause that. Ignorance can be fixed if it's allowed to. Stupidity is what can't be fixed.. :) AfroBoriquen, you are exactly right.

  • What upset me the most was when Rosie and her cousin were talking about how her side of the family was made from her great grandfather out of wedlock, and her cousin was on the legitimate side, but apparently cus of the way they look people wouldve thought she was the legitimate side and not him. You could feel the energy from that scene and the way that he looked at her after she said what she said, that she was referring to the fact that he didnt look legitimate just cus he's darker than her

  • I saw the entire documentary finally. I liked it for some parts but I can see where there was a lack of acknowledgment of the African influences. It was like looking at a nice photograph with a hole in it where someone or something obviously is supposed to be at. I would have thought they would have mentioned blacks after talking about how the tainos were abused and the spanish took over. Surprised me when I didnt.

  • @lapluma85 Yes exactly. You are right on.

  • Yo soy Afro Cubano... It's great that you are teaching people about the African and Spanish culture mix.

  • Hi,

I am a negro americano born in Northern California, I am married to a Puerto rican lady. From my experience traveling to P.R. many times my wife accuses me of being a racist when ever I mention Loiza Aldea and afro puerto rican heritage why is that?

  • here's a thought if the african roots in your culture are so degenerate, stop using it

stop playing salsa ( slave music by african and tainos who were oppressed). stop eating certain african-taino foods, stop rapping in spanish over jamaican music ( african music about the motherland) and start playing music from spain, and eating foods from spain and don't forget to dress like the people of spain. bet you'll miss the african influence then.

  • @bigboize so true.

  • I like what you're doin man. Don't listen to what people have to say. Sooner or later everyone's gonna want to be boricua. Show yo P.R. pride!

  • I think it's good what you're doing. A lot of times people come up to me and say that I'm not Puerto Rican just because I'm not light skinned. I try not to associate myself with those types of people. Don't listen to what people might say to you. Show yo pride!

  • lol, youtube is full of self-hating black puerto ricans. they're so mad that they dont fit in in puerto rico that they make these videos to prove puerto ricans are black. the darkest that an average puerto rican can be is a mulatto get over it and move to the dominican republic where you would fit in

  • @borinkenny LOL you ignorant dumb ass. The darkest is a mulatto?? Tell that to Robert Clemente, Tite Curet, Ismael Rivera. You're ignorant borinKKKenny. You get over it and move your ass to Europe where you would fit in.

  • @AfroBoriquen that was one of the best responses on yt ive seen in awhile, lmao

  • @AfroBoriquen I am not Afro-Boricua but African-USA. IIn words of Ismael Rivera, I gots to say, "Ecuaje". I work at a clinic where most of the staff is "hispanic" and Spanish-speaking and they can never handle any mention of slavery that happened. One person of Puerto Rican decscent who knew nothing about Ismael Rivera tried to say that even though she did not have afro-hair most of her ancestors were enslaved Africans and because of that she should get becas pa' los afro-americanos y los latino

  • @borinkenny (cont) my husband is german and he is in love of puerto rico..one of his friends was here and fall so much in love with it that he's making plans to move here too..and i have met people from europe and other latin american countries and they fall in love too..when someone from another country shows you all the great things this island have, that are more important than material stuff, you really feel a love for your PATRIA that is impossible to describe..just be proud of been BORICUA!

  • This is sadly a true factor in parts of the latin world. The refusal to acknowledge African influence.

Very few know that slaves were taken to Argentina & Mexico. In Brazil the image you get is they are all honey/white coloured not true. But when one sees Black Brazilians they are only shown as poor, ignorant or criminals,

  • @GayBlkWorld In Mexico we do know that Africans were brought to Mexico and were assimilated in our culture, but it was not at the same high numbers that were taken to Brasil or the USA,the majority of Mexicans like me are meztisos, that is we have Spanish blood mix with native indigenous blood.I think we should all be proud of our roots because their is so much great history behind it.

  • @GayBlkWorld absolutely the spanish fort is still there in vera cruz where the slaves were brought in and many don't know that there were black conquistidors who came over as well black people who were immersed in spanish culture language and all who helped to establish the slave trade in mejico. many de los morenos viven en mejico hoy along the costal regions etc and many look just like american blacks here in the states. great points papito!

  • In the Western Hemisphere and wherever Europe has had an influence the color of your skin matters a lot! It matters much more than the education you have. So to say that skin color doesn't matter is totally ignorant and color blind. Skin color will most likely determine your socio economic status in society. The African influence in Latin America is undisputed. And you CANNOT deny your African roots because Africans made Latin America. Africans created the beauty that is currently there.

  • Afro, you are the best for this. I saw it when it first came out, but forgot about it amidst lifes other plans. I will recommend for a few friends of mine that choose to forget the African portion of Puerto Rican history and believe America to be PR's savior.

  • AfroBoriquen, thanks for creating these videos!!! Awesome work!

  • please upload more of this afro boriquen videos I LOVE IT!

  • please upload more of this afro boriquen videos I LOVE IT!

  • excelent. can you please post up more. I have a friend who loves this type of thing

  • Great piece. I hope people like you become the teachers of my children. Gracias Boricua!

  • I did a 3 part series called Latino what is that please check it out.

  • ohhhhhh and you got the hector lavoe playin te conozco bacalao auque venga disfrazao hhaaha

  • also i like the message in what your sayin some people seem to think you have to be light skin and have wavy hair to be puerto rican

  • who is that in the beginning ismael or cortijo? or neither?

  • yo im from Trinidad and Tobago and pasteles from puerto rica is called pastel in Trinidad its funny how much afro Caribbean and Puerto Rican culture has in common

  • whats the name of this song

  • Thank you for our verbal his/herstories...........Nice, ache'

  • much gusto and gracias...the truth is beautiful mi gente

  • Very good video and very informative.I am a Dominican of Taino,African, and European descent and proud of all them.I just wish more of our PR brothers and sisters open their minds and realize that latinos are made up of different races and come in different colors.

  • MR. PAPIGATO-BORICUA DRIVING

  • pa lante lante... keep speaking out por la gente pai tu lo sabe...

  • Vaya papa... great video... Thank you to open the discussions and make awareness to all who lack the knowledge... we are the Mestizo...

  • Grew up in P.R.and really never saw color now looking back i had white, brown, black, friends family and neighbors, to me we were all PuertoRicans,to me we still are...

  • Though I'am black (not Boriqua Black), I still find Puerto Ricans (especially the women) to be interesting and beautiful; Negras, Morenas, and Gringas alike.

  • hey for you to be a puerto rican black you would only have a 9% chance. LOLOLOL let all the puerto rican blacks know that.

  • I was in Puerto Rico in December and I was so dissapointed. They dont like blacks there and they try to do everything they can to downplay the African influence on that island. I went to a show at the Fortaleza and they performed bomba music and dancing (Afro Puerto Rican) music and there was not one black person or even a dark skinned mulato. I was so disgusted. It was such an unbalanced perception that I got up and left and the people there in general arent friendly either.

  • puerco ricans think they are white but they are hispanic like any body and they also have a lot of black people in his people in other words they are rats any way..jajajajajaja

  • @lafama123 I come from the island, first I'm Boriqua not puerto rican, and I got more pride in my african roots than most of these sellout negros on the main land.but what I really wanted to say is that I'm not a fucking hispanic, there is no such thing, the fucking us sensus can up with that name to group all spanish speaking people into one group,I'm not mexican, defenetly not the same as an argentino or anything else but Boriqua.

  • boricua!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i have the book, they came before columbus, it is an informative book. lets not forget also afro nicaraguans, who are also forgotten. that is where i am from

  • CANTO DE SANGANO!!!

  • this is great ty 4 sharing

    WeeeePaaaaaaA!!!

  • good video need more of them

  • hearing this music makes me feel like i am there :(

  • well said CarmelMamiChula. Im Boricua myself and i always get ignorant answers as well......

  • I undertand what ur trying to say but i follow Senor Pedro Albizu Campos ideology like he said my blood and flesh is the same as everyone of my fellow Borincanos. So I have no preference for neither of my ancesters. When i used to walk thru my barrio i didnt see blk/brn/wht I saw a Puertoricans. let me put it this way we see the world different than u americans and i understand it cuz i live in USA now. Just look at the documental as the story of PR not a race our nation is more than our race

  • not if you live in the ghetteo dumbfuck

  • Puerto ricos culture and music comes from the african. Bomba and all that shit. The Santeria is african from Nigeria. The roots of their foundation they can never shake that fact Puerto rico will always be synonomous with African

  • do not confuse santeria with puerto rican culture. santeros consider themselves santero first and then their nationality second. unless you are in their movement then they really are not your people. by the way santeria at least the majority of it came with the cuban immigration to puerto rico.

  • im just boricua african, indian, white. equal and no disctintion =)

  • youre right ... doesnt matter if youre black or white or yellow im 15 % black and im latino so what ,,,,,,,,,,, boy youre right

  • puerto rican is

    taino indian, hispanic and blackk

those three thinqs are whut puerto ricans are made of!!

  • Nice video, the dance in 1:10 is very much like Spanish dances, I'm referring to the dress twirling part. Was it a modified Spanish dance combined with African elements in the Afro-boriqua community? in 1:58 I see l lot more Afro in the dance. Kind of reminds me of some creolized Peruvian dances with Spanish and African influences.

  • @Salsassin Well there is going to be similarities with Peru because don't forgot that Peru was made the original capital and center for all of the vast conquered SPanish territories at one point until seperate viceroyalites were made! And plus there was cross enslaving and bring blacks from other spanish territories as slaves to other spanish territories! Also many of the slaves that ended up in Puerto Rico. They are related to slaves that were heading to Panama, the transit point for Pacific !

  • Once and for all people....puerto rican is NOT a race, its a nationality therefore you can be of any race or combination of races and still be puerto rican just like you can be of any race or combination of races and still be american or canadian or brazilian, etc.. To reydesign, who said he "looks" white, you look white because you ARE white. Puerto rican doesnt mean NON-WHITE it just means your family is from puerto rico. They're lots of white puerto ricans of italian background.

  • @brownpapi75 no white puerto ricans like me are not italian background were spanishh

  • I feel what you're doing bro, here on La Isla I speak with many Afroboricua that don't really know there african roots (other than, music, food, dance), racism is here but most say it isn't because the expectation for afroboricua is very low (educationally) you will almost NEVER see afrobori workin at front desks in, hotels, banks, most businesses.

  • whoever put this video on here do not worry about proving yourself to anyone. worry about what your family thinks and thats it. as long as you can speak spanish than nobody has anything on you.

  • AfroBoriquen , you are correct there are groups that have fought for or improvements and better standards of living. But they started before the 60's by 1892 there were political parties from Puerto rico that along with Jose Marti from Cuba had chapters in NY,FL,LA that were struggling for our people, we just got shafted by the US. . Look up "Nuestra America:Latino history as united states history" By Vicki L. Ruiz she a Prof. of Latin studies in chicago. I bet u will like it.

  • Yes , I will look that up. Thanks for the info.

  • i agree with wat u said on the video, im from equatorial guinea the only african country dat speaks spanish, and let me tell u a fact, one of most popular foods is El Bacalao con arroz y verdura, i can tell u that in some ways carribean food is like african food saludos hermano hispano

  • 9ood video manito 5tay tru

  • @AfroBoriquen im proud what of what u are doing brother. im a black american in Chicago who loves the puerto-rican culture especially the boriquen sistas.

  • lol shut up...

  • @AfroBoriquen

Hola, AfroBoriquen ! are you aware of the Afro Latinos documentary that is coming out in 2010 !

I don't know if you ever saw it or got it because I think I sent it to you in the past !

You will love this docuemntary because Renzo Devia and Alicia Anabel Santos are going to every nation/country in Latin America and exploring Afro Latinos there roots and their history and culture and what is in store for the future !

  • Nah, I didnt know about it. You have to keep me posted on when its going to be out, I have to see that for sure.

  • Yes, well I will send you the video on the Afro Latinos documentary trailer ! I will send you the Spanish version and English version !

I hope you speak Spanish !

  • hear this song watch?v=XxbKhaJ5VCk

  • @AfroBoriquen have you got a part 2 of this documentry because i find it very educating. peace

  • Yes there is a part 2 and 3. Go to my channel and you can see the other parts.

  • and borinquen is a taino word so stop trying to claim it for africa "afro-borinquen" lol

  • @borinkenny LOL how stupid. American is an english word, but we add African and get African American. It just identifies the persons ancestral origins. Just like Adding Afro to Boriquen identifies both the African and boricua origins. So your just ignorant and silly.

  • Hello, I am an African American (non boricua) but I was wondering are most Puerto Ricans mixed with African ancestry? Because I know some Puerto Ricans who kind of look black, and use the word "nigga" a lot, since I rapped with a lot of them, and before I really know about Puerto Rican culture I was wondering if it was ok for them to use the word "nigga" like African Americans, cuz rappers like Big Pun (RIP) and Fat Joe used it and yeah basically just wondering were they part black too. thanks!

  • @KacheMonet Yes, a lot of puerto ricans have black ancestry.

  • no they are not. we are latin americans ... yes we do have african ancestry but that does not make EVERY puerto rican person or latin person black . we are just like the rest we have light latins fair skin latins and dark .

  • @KacheMonet, they are africanized culturally in American ghettoes...in sociological terms it is called "cultural accomodation, cultural affiliation, cultural submission. If they had grown up in Amish communities, they would NOT be afro-centric or culturally black. This is what happens when you don't know your history and fall for bullshit taught in shit shcools.

  • You know its sad and disheartning, to see that in 2009 we still have this divide in our people. Out of all the Latino in the US weare the only ones that are citizens but compared to the other large hispanic groups we have the least amount of political movement and influence. Our mexican and Cuban Brothers and sisters can teach us something when it comes to helping each other and becoming a force. Even when they get to a top position in there chosen professions, they remember there roots first.

  • Not really. Puerto Ricans have been politically active for quite some time now. It started back in the Days with the Young Lords in NYC. Puerto Ricans opened the doors for other latinos/Hispanics etc , in the US.

  • edwin, (part1) what you say has some truth but...

    1. there are MILLIONS more Mexican/Mexican-Americans than Puerto Ricans both on and off the island = 8 Million.

    2. the cuban immigrant communities from the 60's to 90's was predominantly middle and upper middle class. the poor, black and uneducated are STILL cutting cane in Cuba. they never got out.

    3. the Puerto Rican emigrant population demographics was predominantly rural-background,minimal education, from lower social/economic background

  • sotonemuel, I'm sure you know every Puerto Ricans ancestry right? Every Puerto Rican being mixed with Native American, White, and Black is a MYTH. There are Puerto Ricans who can be only white, black or Taino. If you are a Puerto Rican who might have a small bit of black or native American but you are predominantly white than you are a white person. Do you know how many White Americans have either or both Native and black yet they are still classified as white? You would be surprised.

  • ok so if my maternal grandpa n grandma are white PRs and my Paternal Granpa is Blk/native and Grandma native

    What am I?

  • DONMaNNY you are a person. We seem to associate with what society dictates us to be because of what we LOOK like. And for African Americans, who look for other ancestors, we are labeled "ashamed" of being black. I am proud of all of my ancestry, which includes Cuban and European. I define myself using all of my ancestors. Just because one blood line is more dominate over the other, then we say "you are not that, you are this because you look this way. Stupid. Let people be who they want to be.

It is true that there are Puerto Ricans who are not mixed. However, the vast majority are mixed, excluding people who are recently immigrated. Most Puerto Ricans are tri-racial. There are Puerto Ricans that can be pure white or black, but it is highly unlikely for any to be pure indian. This is unheard of in the Caribean. There are however, people who look or identify closely with their native ancestry.

  • @LaMariposaSedosa There are pure indigenous peoples in the Caribbean actually! Look up Commonwealth of Dominica, simply known as Dominica! The only island in the Caribbean with the largest surviving indigenous CARIB community known as the Caribs!

  • THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO.! So many people don't know their history and allow themselves to be separated by lies when the TRUTH about African descent and the African Dispora in Latin America is what really bridges all of us together.

  • niiice video !!!!!

  • First of all, Rosie Perez's docu-crap sucked. They were not articulate and they sounded the under educated people who think they are speaking intellecutally. Now Rosie and J-lo are kissing Sonia Sotomayor's ass, so that she can bestow rights on one of them to make a crappy film about her life. Ladies, please stop with the crappy films. Who ever did this had a nice touch. The use of Marvin Santiago was on!!!!!!!!

  • This video is great!!! Personally, I thought Rosie Perez's docu-crap sucked. They were not articulate and they sounded like bunch of under-educated people who think they are educated and just talk shit! And now her and J-Lo are kissing Sonia Sotomayor's ass to film her life story. Please ladies stop making crappy films!!!!

  • Very good video I need to check out her documentary.

You are so right us boricuas are so diverse...and I am glad you did videos on this ..... ;)

  • that guy in ( 45 seconds) looks like shaq

  • Puerto Ricans WAKE UP!!!!! It matters not what you look like, the world still sees you as ricans. Think about it! You may see yourselves in terms of shades of colors but why? I am not hispanic, and a Puerto Rican is a Puerto Rican. All cultures and ethnic groups have a history within their history. Be it Spain, Africa, or the Tainos, it is your history. Stop tripping on how much white blood you have or how little black blood you have! You all sound like a Jim Crowe Confederate South.

  • AMEN!!!!!!!

  • amen,mano!

  • co-sign!

  • I am a Mississippian. This State has the largest percentage of blacks, but it far exceeds 37%. In all the major cities, you can hardly find any whites. When Obama ran for president, he took the whole state except for one SMALL predominantly all white area. The demographics have always lied. We are about 63% blacks. The rest are whites, natives, and others. Visit Mississippi then tell me where are the whites?

  • We Boricuas come in all colors, and regardless of your skin color if your Puertorican always remember what they taught you in school, "y tu abuela aonde esta?!" i havent seen the documentary but im sad to hear they didnt include our african heritage, which is a HUGE part of our culture. African + Spanish + Taino = Boricua... if one of those is omitted then it just doesnt add up! asi que gente dejense e mielda! awesome video!

  • why is that?? about the grandmother thing because my mom talk about her grandmother is from spain etc

  • @ sexymixed13

Most countries colonized by europeans, the people living there typically have european ancestry through their paternal line. Their maternal line is usually native (african, native american, hawaiian, filipino). questionable DNA testing done in PR showed many people are at least 20% black, so more likely than not that would be through their maternal line.
