Roland RD-700GX

The 'main' thing I'd like to know about this, is when using the audio key function, could you assign only the bottom 2 keys if you wanted, one to play and stop the backing track? freeing up the rest of the octave so you could play on it? I've downloaded the utility and noticed all the preset sets use all 15 keys, so what would happen if you only put audio files on 1 key for example? Can you still play piano on the keys that would usually trigger verses etc. Thanks in advance! :)

I've had my RD 700GX for about a year (and a KC-500 amp) and have gigged with it a good bit. I also have a Casio privia and a Yamaha Clavinova.... . The RD has by far the most realistic feel and responsiveness that I want. and having played on Steinway concert grands the past few years as well.... that means something. But definitely get the Supernatural upgrade kit for the GX (not the GX-1), for these are some nice additions to piano voices.

Would it be better to buy the Roland RD 700GX or the Roland RD 700SX?

Or should I just buy the 300GX?

I was looking online and it seems the 700GX is a better quality than the 700SX for normal piano playing.

I just saw a photo in the newspaper today of Neil Hannon from Divine Comedy/Duckworth Lewis playing this actual keyboard live at the Olympia Theatre (28th July). I've been looking to get a keyboard/piano for ages but have been undecided about which model for quite some time, had considered this model. Hannon's endorsement of the RD-700 GX is good enough for me. I'll still continue to have a look around but so far this one is top of the list right now, will probably get one in a few months time.

I have a question to all RD 700 owners, I own a Nord Electro and a Yamaha P85, but, as i play acoustic piano at home, i am in bad need of a bettter key expression for playing live; I am about to get the RD, BUT (and this is stopping me)¿what about that "keys wear issue" that many people claim to suffer all around the net?, they say that those porous keys get scratched with the years..

How do the vintage keyboard sounds compare to the Nord Electro 3 and the Korg SV-1?

I don't want fancy hammer sounds, touch sensitivity adjustments, or yet ANOTHER EP sound! I want the ability to adjust the weight and feel of the keys. Come up with that Mr. Fancy Big Keyboard Company guy. I want the ability to adjust the touch between a spring tensioned synthesiser and full weight of accoustic grand.

@alan933 I agree. That feature in an 88 key model would be all anyone would ever need. Imagine if you could perform splits, with not just audio like what is possible now, but in weight too. The possibilities would be endless.

Definitely or you can use it as a controller for another keyboard, I use it with a motif.

Im not that sure check the website, but roland says the've improved there piano sampling and added more waverom etc. Also there is addition of midi and usb or something. I've never seen an sx so IDK. Good luck

hey i was woundering i have enof money to get the roland 700gx and macbook pro but not the logic studio software if i was to get the roland but if i was to get a taylor guitar insted of the roland then i would have enof to get the logic studio software wich one do you think i should get the roland and macbook pro and no software or taylor guitar macbook pro and software

im sorry but the roland still has that JV tine to it.... just a variation of their old samples... I have the S90es and moving up to S90XS ...... yamaha is RICHER by far... and the new xs engine has an amazing synth. for more powerful than the roland

The thing about Roland which is better than Yamaha, is that they kind of combine the Yamaha PSR and Portable Grand.

Whenever Yamaha make a kind of combined PSR and Portable grand, it's usually over the top and at an insane price.

That's why I've switched to Roland.

I have just got new one of these pianos and it is AMAZING!!! Roland have created another fantastic instrument. I strongly recommend any pro to go out and buy one! I have played a number of stage pianos but I keep coming back to Roland as they are far superior to any other brand!

I think that you guys are making a mistake.

a) The grand, and vintage tones in the EX are superior in quality to the RD700. It's undeniable.

b) The action is much heavier on the RD700 compared to the EX. This doesn't make it better. The action on the EX is much better suited for percussive organ playing and clavinet-like sounds. Feels great for solo piano work too (matter of taste).

Clavia designed the EX to do a few things extremely well, and that is exactly what they achieved.

This is aimed at anyone who doesn't think this sounds "great". All you need is the digital piano to feel like a real piano. Once you've found this plug it into your computer and buy an amazing sampled piano, i.e. buy a sample of a steinway grand

I checked one out and I was VERY disappointed that a $2500 piano still couldn't sound remotely like a piano. It's very nasal in the midrange just like every other cheap digital piano out there.

I think the difference between this 2 keyboards is that the 300 doesn't have 10 organ sounds that the 700 does, if i'm wrong correct me please.

@ScareMouth one of the massive differences is that the 700 has roland's "ivory touch" as opposed to plastic keys ... it's surprising how much difference it makes (at work I have them stacked one on top of the other to show how much better the 700 is!)

I have played on the rd700 and 300sx and they were amazing so i dont know how they could have improved it as much as they have claimed to!
