  • LOL - P. Staker

  • "...then he goes on to say some needlessly flattering things..." I laughed. Out loud.

  • Don't worry guys. I am sure Hitch is smoking and drinking scotch in heaven.

  • @Doublicon What an odd thing to say about such an anti-religious person.

  • This is absolutely fantastic. Many thanks for organising the questions/interview and uploading!

    R.I.P Christopher.

  • I have always been a fan of hitch but since his death which sadly was on my birthday i am looking at a ton of his videos and have also started reading his book.

RIP CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS and the best of luck to his family with grieving with such a loss.

  • Truly Epic - this is a million times better than EDDIE MURPHY: RAW! Hitch u r my new hero & why have I only now just discovered u?! More crass than Howard Stern, more provocative than Sam Harris, more scandalous than Lady Gag, more authentic than Sean Penn & less of a flamer than Anderson Cooper - thank u 4 ur rants - they rock & inspire me!

Your command of then Eng. lang. more than makes up for the holes in ur scientific evidence & wildly erroneous suppositions - RIP! U will be sorely missed!

  • fapfapfapfapfapfapfap

  • Drinking a glass of Black tonight to Christopher.

  • rest in piece you brilliant bastard , you've been an inspiration for many young people across the globe such as myself. I raise my glass of JW black to you.

  • @Densparentsdontluvhm Still can't find it. Joke's on you.

  • RIP. You will be dearly missed and will forever stand as a bastion against the tyranny of our consciousness.

  • Crying.

  • Anyone else notice @ 13:55 'What a Wonderful World' is being played in the background?

    Oh, never mind.

  • @Psycholistic1

    God isn't real faggot

  • We love you Hitch.

  • R.I.P. Hitchens. We will miss you.

  • Great man! hope his friends and family are dealing with ok.

  • The world has lost a tremendous voice of reason. Your will be dearly missed. I raise my glass of Black Label in salutation and thanks for what you have given the world. RIP Hitch

  • Hitchens..the great intellectual; you will be missed a lot

  • You'll be missed my friend.. I can never thank you enough for what you've done for me. /this Johnnie Walker Black is for you..

  • Rest in solemn peace, Christopher Hitchens. You were a brave and wonderful man.

"To live in the hearts we leave behind is to live forever."

  • While you can't see this text, thank you so much for all the work you did Mr. Hitchens to advance logic and reason. You were.. no, are... one of the greats and will be missed by so many. <3

  • RIP you amazing man

  • I think he confused the problem with libertarian and socialist. Those two, in a non-american sense really goes without saying. One collectively condenses all industry under the control of unions by means of state compulsion and the other is essentially the same animal except it lacks the compulsion and the permission.

I think the guy was asking about american libertarianism vs. socialism.

  • R.I.P buddy

  • RIP - Christopher Hitchens

  • You see those towering stacks of books in his work area? This is what the office of a stud looks like. Remember it. If you find yourself going home with someone and their work area doesn't look like this, don't sleep with them. John Waters is right.

  • 42 dislikes? Ironic. 42 people can suck my balls for the answer.

  • RIP, Hitch

  • RIP Hitch.

  • The world is left with a void of reason now that you're gone... So it goes.

  • He left this world a better place.

  • Rest in piece you brilliant bastard. Rest in piece *cries*

  • Rest easy, Christopher Hitchens. You have forever changed my perception of everything.

  • A woefully underappreciated specimen of human brilliance and courage. Our world is poorer, much poorer now, but it is our duty to take the torch and carry it forward into dark places. Thank you, Hitch, for showing the way.

  • RIP

  • If I achieve nothing else in all my years, I want it to be known that I was alive when Christopher Hitchens was alive. Here's to you, Hitch. You will be sorely missed.

  • What a terrible loss.

  • Thanks for everything you left behind for us. You will be missed.

  • He never stopped sharing, he never stopped arguing or contributing, evolving his and others' ideas. He always contributed is mind to our society, whether people liked it or not. He stood firmly in what he believed in, and his beliefs were spotlessly guided by reason, as all beliefs should be. He was a fantastic man and a beautiful mind. Thank you, Hitch.

  • Missing you already Hitch.

  • <3

  • FUCK CANCER.

  • @guitargod1815 To be fair he smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish... Both of which didn't make things any easier.

  • I hope your his moments were painless, goodbye Chris.

  • Rest in peace. His life was an inspiration to thousands.

  • You will live on in our memories. Farewell.

  • RIP you beautiful man. Your afterlife rests in all the books, articles and essays you have presented to the world, and you will continue to live though all those you have inspired.

  • RIP

    You inspired many of us.

  • @creationcenterTV Fuck cancer, science will catch up with its bitchass sooner or later.

  • @creationcenterTV Let the tears flow.

  • @creationcenterTV :( He's gone

  • @creationcenterTV you can cry now ... we all can.

  • @creationcenterTV *cue crying*

  • @creationcenterTV go for it

  • @creationcenterTV Then grab some tissues. He died on December 15, 2011.

  • @creationcenterTV the day has come :( RIP Hitch

  • @creationcenterTV Are you crying now? What a sad day. :(

  • @creationcenterTV I think I'm tearing up.

  • @creationcenterTV Well..

  • @creationcenterTV wtf a month ago, you write "I will cry when he dies" and he dies...

  • @creationcenterTV

    Well then.

  • @crawlmen88

    And you're fucking stupid.

  • @Exellentcopy why?

  • Every answer to these questions digresses into something loosely connected that he actually finds interesting. Hitchens is to smart for reddit.

  • "BoredGreg asks...in a rather laconic way..." Real laughter was produced.

  • Every time he coughs in this video . . . I always . . . fuck cancer.

  • @bfoaliali it sucks! but he looks remarkably young and healthy in most videos on youtube, if i'm not mistaken he was 59/60 when this was filmed. wow!! from his own confession of living a life of drinking and smoking, he looks great. and then.... cancer. :@ grr

  • So Czechoslovakia wasn't founded as a secular democratic federal republic?

  • Thank you for sharing this reddit.com interview..

  • I just received word that Hitchens is dead.

    Look it up.

  • @1GodOnlyOne I looked it up. You are one lying motherfucker. :)

  • @1GodOnlyOne OMG another shockofgod sockpuppet account, dude honestly your attempts become more and more pathetic and your desperation ensues....

  • look at all those books, drool*

  • I love the book stacks in he background!

  • hitch is incredibly intelligent, one of my favorite intellectuals. and yet there are a good few issues i have to disagree with him on. i don't know why, but it's sad to me.

  • @naturphilosophie1 arrogant bigoted douche-bag?

  • @naturphilosophie1 and hes good at it

  • @naturphilosophie1 hater.

  • @naturphilosophie1 why do you watch him if you dont like him?

  • "We would be compelled to acknowledge that Stalinism was rooted not in the backwardness of the country, but in the congenital incapacity of the proletariat to become a ruling class. Then it would be necessary to establish, in retrospect, that the present USSR was the precursor of a new and universal system of exploitation." -- Leon Trotsky, 1938

Having grown up reading "The Revolution Betrayed", written by Trotsky here in Norway, I understand Hitchens' views on these matters very well.

  • watching the PZ Myers one after this deffo

  • dam 1800 to 40 like ratio--makes me a little more optimistic about the state of intelligence in this world

  • It makes me cringe to hear Hitchens' views on iraq, such a brilliant man.. yet so wildly misled.

  • @alixoschmann Why?

  • @Territomauvais The latter part of my statement explained why it made me cringe.

  • @alixoschmann How is he misled? Elucidate, sir.

Facts are not Hitchens' foes on this matter.

  • His opinion on Marxism and Capitalism is interesting. It would align somewhat with my own views. I guess the best alternative would be a combination of the two. The only real problem is keeping the entity in charge, be it the corporation or government bureaucracy, in check.

  • what's the libertarian answer for the vietnam war? Of course libertarians would be against it, considering it had no immediate impact or threat against our imminent national security. I think his points on libertarians are not very convincing

  • @TheArsenalfc101 As you Americans are generally prone, you are making the mistake of being particularly ethnocentric and interpreting it from an American's perspective. He means from a political perspective within Vietnam.

  • @ZarkovMusic He definitely was talking about America, he mentioned in the same breath the military industrial complex, a term that is used for US defense contractors

  • 17:45

  • "How did this creep in? How did this guy make the cut?" lol

  • holy shit, reddit. you got christopher hitchens? and I fucking missed it????

  • He must get brutal blowjobs...

  • i have no idea what he's talking about most of the time, but it sure is cute.

  • reddit is down!

  • @senortonyful [1 of 3] I said Hitchens' challenge to theists was trivially simple. Note the word 'trivial'. I did not say that tithing, worship, etc. were moral to you or me. The challenge is: provide a moral act that religious people undertake which laymen can't. Without loss of generality, to a Christian, acts are moral if and only if God commands it or approves it; not thus to a layman.

Therefore, worship would be an act which fulfills Hitchens' criterion.

  • @clavidor12121 That's a major failure on your part. Faith isn't a virtue, and worship is not an inherently moral act. What of someone who worships a murderous psychopath such as Charles Manson? QED.

  • @senortonyful [2 of 3] An immediate Corollary: there are moral acts which laymen can perform that theists cannot.

This is, of course, if you read the challenge as: provide a (Relative) moral act that religious people can undertake which laymen can't. If you were to replace 'Relative' with 'Absolute', or any variant of an absolute morality, then the challenge would just be meaningless since, clearly, religious people are humans prior to being religious humans; i.e. a subset.

  • @senortonyful [3 of 3] Now, let's be very clear as to what Hitchens' has repeatedly said: that the empowerment of women's reproductive cycles is the "only cure" or "only known cure" for poverty. The following YouTube links, among dozens, show this clearly:

    GZiKAeJ9mAU

    fZlX9Titxwo

He is (repeatedly) wrong. As I said before about this and poverty -- where one shows up the other is missing. But Hitchens performs the classic blunder of equating correlation and causation. He lacks rigor.

  • @hexcane

Its nowhere near the same impulse. One is a rational respect for someone, and the other is a blind worship and trust of a being you can't even see. Although cults of personality are common among all people, atheists or not I have yet to see anyone who is a fan of Hitchens express admiration that even approaches the kind of hero worship you're talking about.

  • The birth cycle argument seems obvious, particularly in 3rd world countries large families signify poverty. A women can't contribute if she's constantly pregnant and she'll certainly begin having health issues from multiple births. When women have reproductive control and institutes like the Grameen Bank to give them low interest credit the society does better ask any Indian. I wouldn't say it's the only factor and Hitch wouldnt either but those two things are hallmarks of healthy societies.

  • Certainly the emancipation of women isn't the only cure for poverty, but I don't see how anyone could argue that they are unrelated. In places like Bangladesh and India those exact methods are being used to raise the collective wealth and well being of society. Hitch says to give them some control over their birth cycle and throw in some credit.

  • Well, I don't see what's moral about worship and tithing. If you consider tithing to simply be giving money to be used for charitable purposes (which a certain percentage won't be, it'll be used for upkeep of the church), then obviously there's a better secular version, offering the money to charities that won't proselytize. As far as worship being a MORAL act, you'll have to fill me in on that one.

  • I did watch al of this and I don't do that very often. Astute and real.

  • I have never seen this video before. thank you for uploading it. Hopefully he will survive the cancer he has.

  • 30:23 Wonderful observation

  • @hexcane It's not the same impulse in the slightest. My, and many others, respect for Mr. Hitchens comes from a recognition of his accomplishments and a respect of his intelligence and integrity. No one follows him because of any claims of divinity, he makes no commandments, he doesn't command servility or recognition, he doesn't require anything of anyone. He's a man that has well earned respect from years of struggle for justice, freedom and knowledge. Your claim is simply a false equivalency.

  • @Idahoprospector What holes in scientific evidence and wildly erroneous suppositions are you talking about? I'm not trying to be confrontational, I'm just a slight perplexed. Hitch usually takes great care not to say anything unless he knows it to be true.

  • @senortonyful [2 of 2] Another is his (more) oft repeated challenge to religious people: show me a moral act that a religious person can undertake which a layman can't. This is trivially simple; e.g. tithing, worship, etc. He was told this in a debate and couldn't formulate a suitable retort for obvious reasons.

Having said all this, I'm a huge fan of Hitchens, these lapses in rigor notwithstanding.

  • @clavidor12121 Tithing and worship are not moral acts. Any such claim, obviously the product of non-rigorous thinking, is sure to attract swift dismissal.

  • @senortonyful [1 of 2] You asked: What holes in scientific evidence and wildly erroneous suppositions [does Hitchens display] ? There are a few. One is his oft repeated assertion, used to denigrate Mother Theresa, that giving women control of their reproductive cycles is the cure for poverty. Surely where one shows up the other is missing. But the assertion that there is a causal link from the former to the latter is spurious, though excusable for non-rigorous thinkers.

  • @clavidor12121 Can you explain why giving women control of their reproductive cycles is not the cure for poverty ? In the long run (and with poverty there is only the long run), not having children being born into poverty is the best way to eliminate poverty. If not, what is ?

  • @madskillz1o1 If you look back 5 pages of comments you'll find what I wrote to another Youtube responder concerning this claim and another glaring false one that Hitchens likes to cite against religion. If you delve into why Hitchens believes that family planning is the "only known cure" to poverty you wouldn't be incorrect in thinking that he also believes that the sun rises because roosters crow. Obviously he doesn't. But he slips into the common fallacy of the latter case to argue the former.

  • @clavidor12121 When did he say it was the "only known cure". With those exact words. Thanks!

  • @clavidor12121 Well, you may be right about that assertion being just that; an assertion. However, his case against Mother Theresa is rock-solid. Her treatment of the poor and her campaign against contraceptives deserves nothing but outright condemnation.

  • @Idahoprospector But 1,000,000 x 0 is still 0! /unfunny joke

  • @Idahoprospector the slimy smugness of this comment makes me want to throw up.

  • @77Fortran I threw up myself. couldn't help it.

  • @Idahoprospector pls stop upvoting him. his post is IRONIC.

And I believe that the joke's on you now...

  • @Idahoprospector You're an idiot.

  • Hexcane, why the insults, hate and anger ? Your comments say more about you than they do about us. I think all reasonable people reading these, will see you for what you are. A moron.

  • @hexcane theres a big difference between deep and justified admiration and worship of a fictitious sky monster.

  • I'd give up my entire net worth, my bank accounts, and my left testicle to spend a day in Mr Hitchens' office, reading through the books in his library, drinking his scotch and listening to him talk all day long.

  • @2edsajdmsa I so agree! Best comment I've seen for a long time!

  • @2edsajdmsa In fact. he can have both testicles!

  • I hate to correct Mr. Hitchens as I greatly enjoy his knowledges and speeches but USA is not the only secular democratic republic federal republic as he states in his opening statement. He has forgotten India which is secular, democratic, republic and federal, no matter imperfect it may be.

  • Great guy! Get well soon ツ

  • As a latecomer to full-on atheism, I only recently discovered Hitchens.

I treasure his video appearances, like this one. His books are full of wisdom, but hearing and seeing him speak adds a lot to what he says. It also seems to make the books more meaningful, when returning to them.

  • Search Time 100 Christopher Hitchens 2011, and vote to make him the most influential man of 2011! Only 3 days to go people!!!!

  • Hitchens is saying "fuck you" to the people who don't understand the ABC of atheism @16:26

  • Wait a second, we're following an editor of a FASHION MAGAZINE. Whoa, I had no idea, um does everyone know this?! R we totally screwed or is there someone else? VANITY FAIR editor telling us what to believe, this is actually pretty embarassing! Can anyone help me out wrapping my head around this.

  • @timjdong If you think Hitchens is in the business of telling people what to believe then I doubt you can be assisted with wrapping your head around anything.

  • @M0US3P0T4TO Wait . . . He's not interested in forming people's beliefs? He's helped shape mine. Why else would you choose mass media & publishing to voice your opinions/thoughts/criticisms etc?! He does care & wants us to as well. How can that not be obvious to you.

  • @timjdong can you be more wrong about mr Hitchens? oO

  • @doro69 How so? I just stated a fact that he writes & edits for a joke magazine. I love Hitch, but the criticism was for his place of employment, that I totally do not understand. His book royalties must earn him a grand living, why contribute to such a trash magazine & RUIN YOUR CRED. as an intellectual & authority! VANITY FAIR ON THE WHOLE IS INSULTING & more POP culture POISON we don't need any more of (obviously w/ the exception of Hitch's columns).

  • George washington was a great general. But the brains behind the revolution were the secular enlightened men who imposed their knowledge among the people in order to free them both governmentally and spiritually.

  • First 5 seconds: Fucking hilarious

  • His criticism of the concept of debate in American culture was especially brilliant.

A great man, hopefully the experimental cancer treatment they're trying out on him works and our Four Horsemen can keep battling against unreason.

  • 13:40 Is that his ringtone? HAHA that's fucking awesome.

  • wow, brilliant again , absolutely fantastic.

  • To everyone that comments on this page, I am proud to be of the same species as you. So often I am ashamed of the atrocities and foolish antics that the human species does or partakes in. I find myself hating most human beings, but that is not entirely true. I only hate the ignorant or willfully stupid. I come quite close to loving those who use their critical thinking skills and intilect to form their character. To all on this page, I salute you. You stand out amongst the crowd of bafoons

  • @romperstompist I couldn't have said it better myself

  • This guy is fucking genius, i have watched all his debates and listened to all the available radio interviews. I hope on his death bed he tells all the religious fucks to get bent one last time!
