i think flying is great but its important not to do it too much otherwise you lose the liking for it. if you do it to often then the enjoyment of it just turns it into a feeling of a boaring bus or train journey. i always like a flight to be more than just transport and like to enjoy the scenary.
Air France has the best livery design. Extremely simple, elegant and sharp. It's been the same for over 30 years. Just this year, they've slightly modified it.
Where in the video is the flare? I am trying to figure that out. Is that when the pilot lifts the nose up slightly right as the back wheels are preparing to hit the runway(at :29 secs)?
@Cappadoccia04 Yes, you got it exactly right. The flare helps to slow the aircraft thereby killing off the last few feet before touchdown. It also assists in making sure that the main gear touch first providing a nice smooth landing. If you ever get the chance, watch a large bird such as a seagull come in to land. They also use the flare.
@Cappadoccia04 There is flare, the flare doesnt have to be dramatic, just needs to raise the nose a bit higher to reduce the rate of descent of the last of few feet. There is flare here but it isn't dramatic because the plane was probably light from it's long flight.
I would still rate this as a bit rough, imagine if you are the first passenger and you felt that tug....the actual touchdown was smooth, but that hard pith wasn't. I guarantee that was not intentional.
@jendoslavek if you ever work at an airport you will learn that boeing planes drop the third number for the series number to shorten it up. 738 is a 737-800 and a 744 is a 747-400 series.
Each plane has a full 6 digit series on their tail like 737-824 or 727-212...as for the last 2 digits my only guess is it is a more specific model number in slight differences between each set of planes in the series or new equipment being added that previous models did not have coming from the factory.
a rapid flare like that might have been caused by being slow on short final, where altitude is controlled with power and airspeed is controlled with the attitude, if he was a little slow, he may have delayed the flare until absolutely necessary to avoid losing airspeed and possible causing a rough touch down.
i really love the 777-300er they are so damn quiet on takeoff also the thrust rev when landing.. most of all i like the new ge90 engines they are hugh and lots of thrust but very hush hush hardly no noise.. thumbs up for boeing 777 series
It was a normal "sized" flare, although you can't really call a flare big.. It was just a sudden flare. The plane was for the most part flat, and then it suddenly flared right before touch down.
Airbus 340-500 is much more sophisticated aircraft than Boeing 777..eventhough economically 777 is better but flying continously over water 777 lacks its ability
The Boeing 777-300 has a raked wingtip. Instead of there being a winglet sticking up from the tip of the wing, the raked winglet is flat like the wing but is swept back at a much higher angle than the wing. This provides greater fuel efficiency while keeping the wingspan from being longer. The Being 767-400 also employs the raked wingtip. All variantes of the 787 except for the 787-3 are supposed to have raked wintips.
Hey yulspotter,I don't know if you have heard the news yet,but Air France is supposed to get it's first A380 by the fall and it looks as if Montreal may be the first route they will put it on.You should have lots of nice pictures of that i am sure.A good reason to plane a trip to paris. ; )
Yes, there has been a lot of talk of Air France using the CDG-YUL route for flight tests on their new A380. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. I hope so though.
I don't think so YULspotter that the 777's engine can fit the fuselage of a 737 into this engine I've read that this is the largest engine created for one aircraft. the b777 is awesome
traveling in a b777 is a good experience and comfortable even in tourist class
The GE90-115B engines are much larger than that of the 747-400's. The GE90-115B's fan has a diameter of 128 inches. You can fit the fuselage of a 737-200 into this engine. The PW4000 series used on some 747-400's has a fan diameter of around 94 inches.
i wonder how the passengers felt when the pilot did that sudden flare just a few feet from touchdown. just seeing a huge plane like the 777 rotate 5-10 degrees that fast seems unusual.
Air France are an excellent airline. The 777 seies 300 is a fantastic plane. I flew with Air France to South Africa return this Christmab on a 777 300. I flew in April ,06 to Tokyo return on an Air France 777 300.I only have praise for the airline and the plane.

@richard165s Air France has been using the A380 to YUL on a daily basis since late April. They also use the B744 a few times a week.
