Having saw these races when I was 10 yo these are a treat for any generation to watch and enjoy because they are so rare. So once again sit back relax and enjoy.
Again, I just read the chapter in Bill Nacks book Secretariat of his run in the Preakness. Lots of fun to read and then go watch these videos. Makes one feel as if they were there!
I have a D'Wildcat filly in training and she has Secretariat on he Dam side. Fun to imagine the possibilities!
Despite the production quality (not your fault cf : ), I like these broadcasts better than the coverage today. They took you right inside the preparation f the horse and the jockey.
Yes, it was quite the event. Saddling horses outside is a good idea, weather permitting; it helps to keep the horses calm, allows the crowd to see more of their heroes, and prevents possible injuries that can happen in close quarters. This took place at Pimlico in Baltimore, I guess you got the events mixed up. No biggie. :)

I could be wrong but I think they still saddle them for the Preakness outside - on the turf course I think

So cool that every segment is not sponsored. A whole 10 minutes without ads. The best horse ever. but one of the best broadcasts ever.
Refreshing all the way around.

I agree with you about the quality; it would be wonderful if CBS released the best possible footage of these races in a box set or something.
Good points about the in-depth coverage; many of the things they did back then were very interesting.
I appreciate the support, and I wish you a fine weekend.

Wow, the tension builds.
I never knew they saddled outside in the Belmont.
These are a fantastic find, CF. Thanks so much! :-)
