  • One of the sweetest voices from the 60's and forever...!!!!

  • classical comment but i must say it.. WHY I WAS BORN IN 94!!!! FUCK THE DAMN PEOPLE OF 21 CENTURY! FUCK!

  • I do n't know where this was filmed but it reminds me of the shops on Charles Street Boston, circa 1968.

  • I love his moustache :3

  • Juj on je roztomiloučkej, zamilovala jsem se do něj a představuji si, že jsme spolu a já jsem jenom jeho

  • Scott also wrote "What About Me?" which Anne Murray recorded, and is co-author of The Beach Boys' "Kokomo". He also did the original "12:30", which is different from the M & P version

  • Scott had a hit called No No No No before those. He only did two albums, and there is an anthology set available. He does have a phenomenal voice. He and John Phillips had The Jorneymen back in the Hootenanny days. He took Denny's place in the touring Mama's & Papas in the eighties. He didn't want to be a star.

  • Did Scott Mckenzie sing anything else besides of this pretty song that I alredy knew and San Francisco?.Did he have a long career?

  • I never got to hear this song enough till I found it on youtube. Beautiful, simple, and he's handsome!

  • This is a great song - I agree Scott McKenzie's voice is quite beautiful.

This is as good as, if not better, than San Francisco.

  • most beautiful voice ever seen seriously not like other musician is so good

  • Thank you for posting this! It was one of my favorite songs of the sixties and I thought it was lost forever!

  • love this song, but San Francisco is best

  • This song wasn't as big of a hit, but it's a really sweet, sad song.

  • In a perfect world, Scott McKenzie would've been officially declared the best male singer of the Sixties and had a long, cherished string of hits. I searched for the original 45, with "San Francisco" on one side and this litte-known gem on the flip side - and when I finally found it, I was in ecstasy. Sure, the video is rather crude and silly compared to modern ultra-sophisticated and excessively edited MTV styles, but the absolute beauty of this music far overrides the visual shortcomings.

  • I remember San Francisco - but lovely to discover this too!

  • lots of people say that the internet destroys the music buisness. thats not true, only thanks youtube i now know this great beautiful song :)

  • I love this song by Scott, but for me, the video just doesn't capture the feel & essance of the song. He seems much too aloof and disjointed from the tragedy that the words & music so beautifully express.

  • I still love this man, and he is in his 70's. What a voice.

  • John Phillips was surely one the finest songwriters of the '60s and I'm still befuddled as to why he isn't in the American Songwriter's Hall Of Fame! :?

  • @Babyhowdy233 maybe because he was a child molester and hooked his daughter on cocaine?

  • @TheJaney56

A person's personal life hardly plays a role in any of the music-related institutions' choices to honor that artist or not. As to hooking Mackenzie on cocaine you need to read the book "Wonderland Avenue" to get the real story on that issue. Also, Mackenzie keeps changing her story on exactly how old she was when she had sex with her dad. If she WASN'T a minor (and she has already admitted it was voluntary on her part) then she must accept some responsibility for that sad event.

  • liked this tune better than San Francisco-could relate.

  • I love Scott's voice. I think that nobody sang Reason to believe better than him. San Francisco is only one of his great songs, but he recorded many others and I think all are wonderful, specially because of his beautiful voice.

  • scott mckenzie's mustache sucks

  • @ejectorerector nothing of Scott McKenzie sucks, besides that was in the 60's.

  • My original 45 single of San Francisco has What's The Difference on the flip side. Scott was just fab back then, us girls couldn't get enough of him. I saw him playing in San Francisco in 1979 and was still good. What's he doing now?

  • Check out Scott's early "Northern Soul" gem "Look In Your Eyes"!

  • OMFG!!! I haven't seen this rare gem since I was a little kid!

Too many folks nowadays think Scott only had one hit song but he actually had several, most of which were in Europe. He was a simply phenomenal singer and I cannot thank you enough for sharing this!!!

  • plasticglassonion...at the time I interviewed him he was touring with the New Mamas & Papas...John Phillips, McKenzie Phillips (named after Scott McKenzie by the way), and "Spanky," former lead singer of Spanky & Our Gang. So, he was performing all of the Mamas & Papas songs, plus his HUGE solo hit, San Fransisco. I'm not certain why he didn't perceive "Like An Old Time Movie" as important enough to perform anymore, but it could be that it was not a Top 20 hit.

  • @jsclemokie I know Scott and actually, he named himself after John's daughter.

  • love this xx

  • I'd never heard this song until I joined YouTube. Great song. I even like the primitive "video", too. Has that authentic late '60s 'San Francisco' vibe goin' on.

  • What a magnificent, touching song. But the video is a little lame...so I just listen and don't watch...wow! is all I can say...

  • @pepperdineu1 This is a beautiful song but try to remember the time that this was shot. We didn't have videos then but performers would go on shows like Ed Sullivan, the Smothers Brothers and the like to sing their songs. it was a big deal to see these top acts because chances were you wouldn't see them live.

  • The visuals kind of take away from the beauty of this song. It's really sort of haunting and Scott's vocals are perfect. Wonderful lyrics.

  • Fantastic so emotional and very true.We are just poor human beings,I cry everytime I hear this song

  • I agree with Polyphemus47....the "same sweet chill from this recording".....I still get it too. One of my all-time favorites...written and produced by John Phillips (of the Mamas & The Papas).

I interviewed Scott in 1987 when he was touring with the NEW Mamas & The Papas, and he said that he no longer performed this one...and that the last time he did sing it, the fan who requested it had to scribble the lyrics on a napkin, so he could perform it.

  • @jsclemokie That is very unusual that he forgot the words and did not do it anymore. There must be some pain there. Why would you not do this song? They put it on the flip side of San Francisco. This song is too good not to do.

  • he is great!!!!!!

    PEACE!!!!!! ((((((((((:

  • unmatched!! one of a kind!! peaceful music!! heart teasing lyrics!! perfect!!

  • I wonder if anyone as heard the Flip side of "San Francisco"? If no it's called "What's the Difference"

  • I knew he sang other songs and not just San Francisco :) he has a nice voice I mgth be born end of the 70's but I feel like I have an inner hippy in me :D flower power to infiniti and beyond :D

  • @NajNaj600 He deserved a lot more recognition than he got. Wiki said he sang with Tim Rose in the '50s and was a third of the folk group The Journeymen, which also included John Phillips and Dick Weissman.

  • I still get that same sweet chill from this recording. Scott has one of the great voices in pop music, and this is my favorite of his songs. I'm so glad to find this here!

  • I told my wife this morning that I had found this on You Tube and played it for her. She agrees with you, it is his best. I think that he could sing almost anything and make it sound terrific.

  • The follow up to San Francisco and just as beautiful. His voice is so haunting and yet it has such a great resonance. I love this song and was glad to find it on You Tube. Thank you 22160.

  • I love his expression when he takes his head out of the lampshade. So cute!

  • Most everyone's heard SAN FRANCISCO, but I'd never heard this song until finding it here on YouTube. Nice song; I could listen to it over and over. Thanks for uploading it, Mr. Numbers. :)

  • immernoch unglaublich toll

  • Great song -- but a really CRAPPY video.

  • @BangMan007 remember that this was probably shot in late 1967 or early 1968. Things weren't quite that technical; gosh, we had 8 tracks in our cars and that was if you were lucky.

  • Wow, I just happen to stumble across this. Last time I heard this song was 40 years ago. Brings back a lot of old memories...

  • Epic song. When he made this video in San Francisco I was just down the road at Fort Ord taking basic training. The song brings back intense waves of emotions and memories from this intense period of my life.

  • This is one of the true, " Lost Classics" of the 60's; just a gorgeous, flawless, vocal; heartfelt, & so touching, & one of my most prized possesions , the original 45. . Scott, you were just magnificent, & yes, I always wondered just who JP wrote this for. Wolfsky9

  • Scott was so amazing! =)

  • much better than San Francisco

  • classic looks like it was shot at the wiskey a go go Thanks John for a fantastic song and video

  • Scott McKenzie has one of the most beautiful voices in the history of music. Thanks for sharing.

  • @PhillyGal4Ever

    I quite agree!

  • Beautiful video, thanks for posting this one! Wonder who John Phillips wrote this song about?

  • Wow, a video from the days when music was for listening to!

    Thanks!

  • I love this song
