Arguing that using a sample is 'unoriginal' is circular. Of course it is, that's the point of it. What matters when having a legitimate debate about originality is the use to which the sample is put.

The Beatles 'sampled' Chuck Berry and Dr. John in Come Together, and Fleetwood Mac in Sun King, and the Byrds in If I Needed Someone, and Donovan in Mother Nature's Son, and Dylan in You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, and McCartney 'sampled' Lennon in Let Me Roll It...

McCartney himself would be the first person to admit that the original song is heavily influenced by the work of his mate Stevie Wonder.
