Best song to listen to on my way home driving through the dessert the sun setting off in the distance. My Dirtbike in the back of my truck after a full day of riding. Cold beer waiting for me when I get home. Lifeson's solo doesn't get any better.
@xyz321123 Lol actually that's where you wrong; by virtue of being able to play the complex rhythms and leads he still plays from his back catalogue, he still has to have the technical ability to play a solo like in la Villa Strangiato.
If that isn't enough to convince you (not that I need to convince you because its simply the truth), look at Geddy Lee and Neil Peart; they still play at an incredibly high level and they are just as old or even older than Alex is.
2:08 starts the incredibly amazing shredding by Alex. That solo always makes my balls fall off. Very time. It NEVER gets old. If you want to see a modern version of the solo go to my page. The video is "la villa strangiato louisville ky" and I recorded it from the 3rd row center on April 6, 2011 in Louisville ky! Go check it out!
Just saw the "Time Machine" DVD. This is the second to last tune they play. Awesome writing and performance. The big question is why the hell is there a beam right on the middle of the stage??? I'm surprised no one hit it during the concert.
How is RUSH Not in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame? Alex, Neil, and Getty....3 guys....incredible music...name me another band with 3 members that put it out like they do, over the period of time in which they have....BTW PFTome....ya forgot THE WHO and Queen in your list....just my opinion.....
@SlyDevil66 cause apparently they pissed someone off whos in charge of deciding who gets to be in the rock n roll hall of fame... doesnt really matter though cause they said its not what they aim for the fact the have such a huge fanbase and people enjoy there music is all they care about
@ass*olephysics123- you're a f*king tool. You wouldn't know good music, rock or otherwise if it smacked you in the sack. But then again, you probably don't have one, munt.
The blackened nail aspect and the giant pillar on the stage are great and everything, but what really impresses me is the raw emotion behind Alex's guitar work here. Well done.
The truly great guitarists have their own unique style and sound. You here 1 or 2 notes and you know who it is. You hear Alex and you immediately recognize it as Rush. A truly great player.
I thought Justin Beiber was the greatest thing that came out of Canada....but as I see this video..I think Rush is better...I could be wrong. What you folks think?
@myg0tBUTTPLUG Rush is obviously way better than Bieber...and they have a much, much higher reputation. They are third most in consecutive gold/platinum albums, only behind the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
In any order you like ... Rush, Zeppelin, and Floyd. Do you really need anything else? 30+ years of being very open to all kinds of music and this is my conclusion.
I remember Jimmy Chamberlin in Beyond the Lighted Stage saying something like "If you could play this with some proficiency, you could play just about anything."
I believe that this is one of the toughest pieces of rock music to play
Lifesons edgey improvisation style provides a remarkable contrast to lee & pearts more disciplined playing. Rush are that rare blend of diversity & virtuosity and they FUCKING ROCK!!!!!!!
