  • figure skating is better i think so enyway

  • i didnt need to learn thr figure 8...

  • What planet is puppetmasturbator on? learning to play roller derby is something that has helped me find my identity and I'm not talking about my sexuality here. I'm a straight male who has struggled for confidence socially. All of a sudden I've bonded with a group of people in a way that I never have before in any social situation. Most of the girls at my club that I know of have boyfriends or girlfriends and they are the most awesome people I've ever met. I love roller derby.

  • @CelticPowerRanger u should give inline hockey a go then, its like the next level

  • @puppetmasterblaster I take offense to your comment. I'm on a roller derby team and I'm in a committed relationship that I've been in for over 4 years. Prick.

  • LOl she almost fell

  • everyone saying this video isn't helpful doesn't know what they're talking about. i watched this video about 5 times and when i went to the rink last night for the first time in years, i taught myself and my friends how to do crossovers by practicing the figure eights. we had it down in maybe an hour an a half. and even then, 2/3 of us hadn't been on skates (not blades) since we were kindergartners. if you think this isn't helpful, you probably already know how to do them.

  • This is really useful for the rawest of fresh meat such as myself. Thanks for uploading! Can't wait to try out this drill tonight!

  • im WAAAAY better.

  • Very helpful video! Thank you!

  • skills!!!!

  • expertvillage, jackiephillipsr is 5 9, white and can dunk. Wtf you mean white men can't jump? It's simply about the training folks do to get their own leg strength to be high enough to dunk. However for me, I personally used the exercising program over at 50-inch-vertical(dot)com

  • sticky skate,, ewwww! scaryyyy =S

  • I can't help thinking "Jan Brady" when I watch these videos for some reason but i do appreciate the tips!

  • Trying to master these atm, i've been wearing my skates around the house and just walking everywhere by crossing my feet lol. Hope it helps my by training this week :P

  • I love these videos so much but i laughed at 1:18

all i could think was "Put one foot in front of the other! And soon you'll be walking out the door!" ^_^

  • she almost fell at 0:55

  • @puppetmasterblaster Roller Derby is for chicks who can beat up douchebags like you!

  • WHERE CAN I GET SOME RoLLERSKATES?

  • is it a dude? and my running cross is way smoother, and tighter

  • is it a dude?

  • @expertvillage I am 5 8 and dunk easily - freaking amazing I know! What's the secret? check out "50inch vertical (dot) com"

  • This is pretty helpful

  • expertvillage I would like to tell you I learned crossovers by myself and just thought I should do the crossover since other people could do it. I never took lessons about rollerblading and never knew about the sticky skate.

  • @puppetmasterblaster- Umm I take offense to your comment. I am on a roller derby team, I am not ugly and have a bf that I've been with for 3 years. And many of the girls on my team are married or in relationships. So, before you judge someone, why don't you check out the facts first.

  • Holy shit!.. 140,000 videos!?

  • @6Twisted

Yeah, but it's all Expert Village, not just on Roller Derby. :) Expert Village videos are on just about every topic you ever thought of. Heck, many you never even thought you ever wanted to know about! ;)

  • @puppetmasterblaster And what do you look like? Unnatractive would be my guess. Take your sad insecurities elsewhere please.

  • @puppetmasterblaster No, It's just for chicks too smart to date you.

  • @puppetmasterblaster Judging you by the videos you favorited, I don't think I'd be putting down any sport, or the athletes. Wimpy videos of horse riding? Are you for real?

  • She dresses like a 12 year old!!

  • This is isnt showing me how to do anything, this is showing that you can do them

  • @ftwmarioftw It's great that you already knew how to do a crossover, but not everyone does.

  • @ftwmarioftw Get off your high horse, no one is impressed.

  • valiuchiii

    you stink, speedskating FTW

  • Thanks for the video.

  • hahahahaha I'm glad she put her mouth guard in for that.

  • Someone also told me (and this really helped me a great deal in mastering crossovers) to practice crossovers in normal everyday walking with shoes on. When walking around a corner, practice crossing your legs over. I didn't invest much into this but this helped me out loads of times and I learned just like that :)

  • I agree - especially when going up stairs as well, just to get your feet used to being in front of each other without tripping over. I'm still trying to figure out crossovers but I'm getting there slowly! We also do a drill at training where we just hold onto the walls and walk the entire edge of the rink crossing one foot over the other.

  • Yeah, I did that all the time while learning crossovers. I learned very quickly that way. It's doing crossovers while skating in the opposite direction that I'm struggling with!

  • @SpunkyLamb I hear ya! I spent so much time trying to master doing crossovers going in the right direction that I'm crap at goin the other way lol.

  • Exactly what I needed. Thanks for the video.

  • Its actually easier for taller women who can master using your stride when you crossover and don't have knee issues. Keeping your center of gravity low during your crossover and putting/shifting all your weight on the leg underneath you while using your long

[sexy ;O)] legs to gain pace in the turns exit while keeping pace and bearing during entry. Compress like speed skaters do. We may never be jammers but some of us can skate faster than them :O)

  • The sticky skate figure 8 is a really good idea, I will have to try that one!

  • i slide my foot when i cross but thats only cuz my knee gives out easy i can still shadow perfectly though!!

  • She's wearing full competition gear, it's required in a match. These short tutorials are intended to assist new roller derby skaters; why on earth would she not also demonstrate the necessary equipment for competition?

  • You've never seen roller derby, have you? Why don't you go stand on a rink with no protection and have a 200 pound girl body check your stupid ass into a wall?

  • im learning a little bit. roller is my passion

  • interesting, thank you

  • Well done you, a classic case of those that can, do, those that can't criticise. Your attitude isn't very helpful, for your information, the woman doing to video is a derby coach. And learn to spell.

  • They're not rollerblades... they're rollerskates.

  • @clawalk Yeah. Where does it say they are roller blades? Roller Derby only allows quaad skates. I would know.

  • @MsBotdfLove I was replying to someone else's post (3 yrs ago). They had said they were rollerblades...

  • LOL you are a moron. Those are quad skates, not inline skates, dope.

  • For me, the "ah hah" moment was when someone on my team told me to swing my arms when crossing over (opposite to your feet, just like walking or running). Helps the balance a LOT and thus let me loosen up because I wasn't as scared of falling.

Also, I find that faster is easier. Going slow you're wobbly, but going quickly gives you more stability (think about learning to ride a bike).

  • For derby, one of the dills we do is crossovers around the figure skating circles. Being able to do crossovers is one thing, being able to do them low and in a small radius is another. We do them for 5 minutes, concentrating on form, not speed. It really works muscles you didn't know you had.

  • can anyone elaborate on weight transfer? I can do crossovers no prob, but these 'figure 8 sticky skates' are hard!

  • The figure 8 sticky skates look harder to me than doing a cross over. We practiced getting your feet to cross each other by doing toe-stop grape-vines. But do whatever works for you!

  • There is a bit more to effective crossovers than simply planting one foot over the other, IMHO. Maybe mention the importance of pushing through actively with both legs, where and how to transfer weight, et cetera?

  • I agree Muffin - it took me a very long time to learn proper & effective xovers because no one could really explain it to me. WHEN you transfer your weight was the key for me!

  • Thats so cool! And VERY helpful :)
