Klipsch, beats, shure, sennheiser all good. Beats is a bit expensive in my opinion but if you want bass, they're typically the #1 option at under $200~.
Sony is also good but mostly for their higher end over ear headphones. After all Sony did create the King of Headphones many a years ago.

Most In Ear monitors should be capable of doing very loud volumes, this is because once they seal around your ear all of the sound goes into your ear unlike full sized headphones which leak.
Monster Turbines are fine in ear monitors, a bit over priced but good non the less. Your volume issues may come from the device you are using them with not the headphones. I recommend looking at purchasing a budget DAC/AMP. Head over to head-fi dot org for help choosing a budget DAC/AMP.

Im stuck between buying these klipsch, monster turbines or the beats by dr dre. could someone please advise me on which ones have the better quality and bass. I am a slight bass junkie but i still like to hear the crisp highs on the soul genre.
@AsAnAtheistFilms I was told the klipsch have a more punchy bass than the turbines but the turbines have a more rich bass....so i'm still slightly stuck. most of the types of music i listen to is like, soul,r&b,hip-hop but then also abit of drum and bass. so i want a earphone that can handle all of it.
Hmm. I'd recommend getting the Turbines still. You must understand the Klipsch Image S4's bass it not exactly what you'd consider bass-head like-able.
Here's how I would put it. Bass= Turbines (drowns mids :| most bass oriented headphones drown one part) Drums=Klipsch for you (lacks good blend of mid and highs for classical music)
@AsAnAtheistFilms i agree with that skullcandy fucking suck and worse headphones are sony and by the way can continue joking on skullcandy in the inbox and sony is overprice and they don't even know how to make audio sound good it just hidden behind bass
if you pronounce bass like the fish, audiophiles will never take your videos seriously. you better fix that problem dude, but all in all the vid was pretty good.
Hey bro, got a question. Picked these up a week ago, and noticed that I've got some flakes of earwax accumulating on the outside of the squishy earplug things. I personally think the 'earwax cleaner' isn't all that great, so...would you recommend running just the earplug through a little bit of water or something? Or, do you think that would mess them up?
Yeah the earwax cleaner is meant to clean the inside of the rubber earbuds. About your question, yes you can use water (hot water preferably) only on the rubber earplugs and not the actual earphones. Please set the rubber ear plugs or buds to dry after you rinse with water. Even a small drop of water is enough to mess up the ear phones. I found the best way to clean them is to use a micro fiber cloth for the outside, and the ear wax cleaner for the inside.
Ah okay. Etymotics are a brand of ear buds, also pretty good quality. The Etymotics hf5's are pretty good, however are more expensive and are very much like the Image S4's in terms of sound quality... If anything at all I found the Image S4's to have a better sound quality when put at higher volume levels. Also I found the image s4 to be more comfortable, the hf5 gave an odd feeling maybe because of it's weight or length...
You must mean "ergonomics". Ergonomics is the study of designing a product around the worker's (or consumer's) comfort. For example: Ergonomic keyboards are designed to keep your wrists supported so you don't hurt your hand.
Ergonomic Headphones means the headphones where designed around the ear to provide comfort. You should never believe a manufacturer when they claim to be ergonomic headphones, the only way to find out if it's really comfortable to try them.
Beats by Dr Dre Tour headphones are good ear buds however they are too focused on Hip Pop then providing a balance of low, mids, and highs. When I tried the on ear Beast by Dr Dre II was not impressed quite frankly. It was just a boomy bass, with decent mids and highs.
If your listening to RnB/Hip Pop or bass oriented music, then yes perhaps the Beats by Dr Dre are for you. If your looking to get the best sound quality, with a balance of lows, mids, and highs for under $200 then the S4 win.
@AsAnAtheistFilms Im stuck between buying these klipsch, monster turbines or the beats by dr dre. could someone please advise me on which ones have the better quality and bass. I am a slight bass junkie but i still like to hear the crisp highs on the soul genre.
Buy them from a electronics store that offer a return policy on their merchandise. Try them out if you like them/can live with the price keep them, otherwise return them. Thats why they have return policies :P so you can try them out/return if your unsatisfied.
I just purchased them yesterday at Best Buy $79.99 and they are awesome. Well worth the investment. I wish I would have tried the skull candy first because i hear they are almost as great and a third of the cost.
I totally agree with you man. I can't understand people who rate skull candies well. Its just a huge wall of overpowering bass. Weak highs, muddy mids, and way too much artificial bass. My gawd, no balance at all. Klipsch is much better. But... no warranty on wires? :(
Your probably gonna have to go with Cowon's or Sony's Mp3 players. The Cowon's seem to be popular with the Audiophiles, and it appears the Sony X walkman series may replace the Cowon.
@Raunky The power requirements for earbuds are very minute. A sound amplifier only amplifies sound not give more power to the speakers or headphones. An amplifier is used to reduce distortion, noise, and improve sound quality/volume through complex algorithms. The most common factors for low volume are as follows:
1. Sound board used on device (computer, mp3, stereo etc)
2. 3.5mm jack in/3.5mm Jack out design/materials. Remember manufacturing defects.
the sound quality 4 the s4 is good for the price, but its just not as loud as my skull candy. Played my ipod at 25%, 50%, 75% volume and the skull candy quality is just a notch below these s4, but the skull candy were louder at these level.
That would be because, since the Klipsch headphones are better physically, they eat up more power, and to fill this power need, you need an external headphone amp, since the one in the iPod is garbage.
Basically, the quieter any particular set of headphones are when driven by an iPod, usually the better the quality.
I'm thinking of buying these earbuds, but I have never been fond of ear buds. My ears are a normal shape, but I just have a hard time keeping say like, the headphones that come in-stock with the Zune in my ears. Will these fit into my ears like ear plugs??
I seem to understand that you have problems keeping headphones in your ear. Yes the Zune headphones have the issue of falling of your ear, I have a pair of them too.
Yes the Klipsch Image S4 are in-ear earbuds. So they go inside your ear just like an ear plug. They are very very comfortable, and rarely do they ever fall off. I have literally washed dishes/gotten the tips wet and still have not slipped off.
@AsAnAtheistFilms Awesome! I will be getting my pair soon then. I've went through 3 of the Bose Tri-Port headphones.... and I just didn't feel like getting another used or new pair. They are a little overpriced. I have a Klipsch home theater system... the F-2 system, actually and the Promedia system for my PC. I didn't think I could go wrong getting these buds, but I just had to make sure they go in like ear plugs and stay in. Thanks!!
Oh pardon me, I got confused with what you were asking. Yes there is a slightly bigger tip, it's the double flange large tips those are the largest they have.
I wouldn't recommend Bose headphones or ear buds for sound quality, the only thing I can recommend is their noise canceling technology as it is yet to be surpassed, those QC3 are amazing.
I have tried Bose in ear earbuds, and they greatly under perform for their price. That is if you can keep the Bose in your ears (they fall out constantly).
Ssssorrry but the number of times you said "bazz" makes me think didin't know of how to pronounce it prior to uploading the video :P and lol at comparing the size with a coin like on the klipsch page for these ear phones :)
anyways i wanna buy retail too but futureshop and bestbuy dont sell these in canada TT anywhere else you think i could find them?
Uhm in guessing you mean the MDRNC22? i believe I have tired some other models of sony's noise canceling, which were bad. Good active noise canceling earbuds or headphones use an inaudible sound to retract with interference to dissipate the background sound. In cheaper models of Active noise canceling you will hear an internal hiss sound which gets overall annoying. Also turning off or running out of battery on the Noise canceling will produce horrible sound.
For earwax in particular you need to use soap/water as water is not very efficient at cleaning off wax. I would highly recommend using the ear wax remover they give you. The tips are made from silicon, and therefore wax will easily come off with Q-tips or a tool like the one they give you.

@AsAnAtheistFilms I was told the klipsch have a more punchy bass than the turbines but the turbines have a more rich bass....so i'm still slightly stuck. most of the types of music i listen to is like, soul,r&b,hip-hop but then also abit of drum and bass. so i want a earphone that can handle all of it.
lilscribblez 1 year ago
@lilscribblez

@AsAnAtheistFilms i agree with that skullcandy fucking suck and worse headphones are sony and by the way can continue joking on skullcandy in the inbox and sony is overprice and they don't even know how to make audio sound good it just hidden behind bass
lgrocks01 1 year ago
if you pronounce bass like the fish, audiophiles will never take your videos seriously. you better fix that problem dude, but all in all the vid was pretty good.
phuphroo 1 year ago
ok buddy ur saying bass like bass the fish its pronounced like bass the kind of guitar... ok almost as if there was an e on the end ...

I am thinking of getting those, but will the jack fit on the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ ?

Hey bro, got a question. Picked these up a week ago, and noticed that I've got some flakes of earwax accumulating on the outside of the squishy earplug things. I personally think the 'earwax cleaner' isn't all that great, so...would you recommend running just the earplug through a little bit of water or something? Or, do you think that would mess them up?
BadBoy787512 1 year ago
@BadBoy787512

I got a mic recently. So I won't have to use the webcam's mic. Anyways try upping your volume a bit if you can't hear. Or perhaps using a sound card.
AsAnAtheistFilms 1 year ago
No, I didn't mean egronomics, I meant Etymotics. Thanks anyway.
kongodonk 1 year ago
@kongodonk
AsAnAtheistFilms 1 year ago
I had a pair of these, but I fucking lost them. Anyway, what are these "eromonics" or something headphones keep mentioning?
kongodonk 2 years ago
You must mean "ergonomics". Ergonomics is the study of designing a product around the worker's (or consumer's) comfort. For example: Ergonomic keyboards are designed to keep your wrists supported so you don't hurt your hand.
Ergonomic Headphones means the headphones where designed around the ear to provide comfort. You should never believe a manufacturer when they claim to be ergonomic headphones, the only way to find out if it's really comfortable to try them.

basically playing all your songs and just leave them playing by themselves or playing different notes/noise brown, white, pink etc

thanks for the pre video warning of the pronunciation of "bass"

Best value in in earphones , very well balanced. These have no major weaknesses , superb value.
These are not accurate to the point of being called monitors but...the overall quality for the price is tops.

are they better than the beats by dr. dre tour? lol
hac93 2 years ago
Beats by Dr Dre Tour headphones are good ear buds however they are too focused on Hip Pop then providing a balance of low, mids, and highs. When I tried the on ear Beast by Dr Dre II was not impressed quite frankly. It was just a boomy bass, with decent mids and highs.
If your listening to RnB/Hip Pop or bass oriented music, then yes perhaps the Beats by Dr Dre are for you. If your looking to get the best sound quality, with a balance of lows, mids, and highs for under $200 then the S4 win.
AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
i like hip hop so ya i like my beats
hac93 2 years ago
@AsAnAtheistFilms Im stuck between buying these klipsch, monster turbines or the beats by dr dre. could someone please advise me on which ones have the better quality and bass. I am a slight bass junkie but i still like to hear the crisp highs on the soul genre.

i want to try Klipsch Image S4 earbuds.
tillvash 2 years ago
Buy them from a electronics store that offer a return policy on their merchandise. Try them out if you like them/can live with the price keep them, otherwise return them. Thats why they have return policies :P so you can try them out/return if your unsatisfied.

i tryed the skull candys and it sucks ass. i have boss earbuds its good bass but not has bass has i want.
tillvash 2 years ago
I just purchased them yesterday at Best Buy $79.99 and they are awesome. Well worth the investment. I wish I would have tried the skull candy first because i hear they are almost as great and a third of the cost.
m1185174 2 years ago
Not sure where you heard that but I can assure you that the Skullcandy's cannot match the Image S4 in sound quality or price for that matter.
AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
I totally agree with you man. I can't understand people who rate skull candies well. Its just a huge wall of overpowering bass. Weak highs, muddy mids, and way too much artificial bass. My gawd, no balance at all. Klipsch is much better. But... no warranty on wires? :(
whycrynow123 2 years ago
Yeah no warranty on wires. The warranty only on the micro speaker. So far my wires are holding up fine. As long as they last me 1 year I'm good.

what would u say is the best mp3 player concerning quality for ur music? since ppl all the time criticize ipod for its bad music quality
m4tttc 2 years ago

3. Heaphone design.
4. Defects in products.
AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
the sound quality 4 the s4 is good for the price, but its just not as loud as my skull candy. Played my ipod at 25%, 50%, 75% volume and the skull candy quality is just a notch below these s4, but the skull candy were louder at these level.
paochoua 2 years ago
skull candys are terrible. you cannot compare them.
joelom 2 years ago
That would be because, since the Klipsch headphones are better physically, they eat up more power, and to fill this power need, you need an external headphone amp, since the one in the iPod is garbage.
Basically, the quieter any particular set of headphones are when driven by an iPod, usually the better the quality.

Bay-ss is what you mean. Bah-ss is a fish. Pretty hard to understand you, a lot of noise in the background, otherwise, great review. Very detailed.

I'm thinking of buying these earbuds, but I have never been fond of ear buds. My ears are a normal shape, but I just have a hard time keeping say like, the headphones that come in-stock with the Zune in my ears. Will these fit into my ears like ear plugs??
beau96080 2 years ago
I seem to understand that you have problems keeping headphones in your ear. Yes the Zune headphones have the issue of falling of your ear, I have a pair of them too.
Yes the Klipsch Image S4 are in-ear earbuds. So they go inside your ear just like an ear plug. They are very very comfortable, and rarely do they ever fall off. I have literally washed dishes/gotten the tips wet and still have not slipped off.
AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
@AsAnAtheistFilms Awesome! I will be getting my pair soon then. I've went through 3 of the Bose Tri-Port headphones.... and I just didn't feel like getting another used or new pair. They are a little overpriced. I have a Klipsch home theater system... the F-2 system, actually and the Promedia system for my PC. I didn't think I could go wrong getting these buds, but I just had to make sure they go in like ear plugs and stay in. Thanks!!
beau96080 2 years ago
does anyone know if the large double flange tips are bigger than the large ones? cuz im plannin on gettin them but not sure if the fit will work
m4tttc 2 years ago
No they're the same size just double flange. It looks pretty cool.
AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
so is there any difference between those two? cuz im looking for something bigger
m4tttc 2 years ago
Oh pardon me, I got confused with what you were asking. Yes there is a slightly bigger tip, it's the double flange large tips those are the largest they have.

Try London Drugs (read comments below).

AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
What about in comparison to Bose earphones? They seem good, too. Great review though!
LedZepplin878 2 years ago
There's a saying with audiophiles:
"No highs, no lows must be a Bose"
I wouldn't recommend Bose headphones or ear buds for sound quality, the only thing I can recommend is their noise canceling technology as it is yet to be surpassed, those QC3 are amazing.
I have tried Bose in ear earbuds, and they greatly under perform for their price. That is if you can keep the Bose in your ears (they fall out constantly).

Bass is pronounced 'BAISE', not bass!
nathuntfantasy 2 years ago
Read the first annotation. I already knew prior to uploading the video, sorry for the inconvenience.
AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
Ssssorrry but the number of times you said "bazz" makes me think didin't know of how to pronounce it prior to uploading the video :P and lol at comparing the size with a coin like on the klipsch page for these ear phones :)
anyways i wanna buy retail too but futureshop and bestbuy dont sell these in canada TT anywhere else you think i could find them?
PhoenixL1ght 2 years ago
London Drugs may have them, for $106~ Canadian dollars which is roughly $102 USD
And yes I took the website's idea of the quarter comparison vs the earbud's.

bought these for christmas there good :) bass is heavy need to have the right earpiece tho
leeg131313 2 years ago
For me the bass is balance. not heavy not underwhelmed. I guess it's because I have tried really bass focused ear buds also.

Ha have you used sony in ears
DFBKicker 2 years ago
which ones? They kinda have like a ton of models.
AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
my bad the Noise Canceling Earbuds thay run about a $99
DFBKicker 2 years ago
Uhm in guessing you mean the MDRNC22? i believe I have tired some other models of sony's noise canceling, which were bad. Good active noise canceling earbuds or headphones use an inaudible sound to retract with interference to dissipate the background sound. In cheaper models of Active noise canceling you will hear an internal hiss sound which gets overall annoying. Also turning off or running out of battery on the Noise canceling will produce horrible sound.
AsAnAtheistFilms 2 years ago
Yeah the Sony MDRNC22 share the same issue with the active noise canceling. If turned off, sound is horrible if on then you get an internal hiss..

u think u can wash the eartips instead of using that stupid waxing tool , like perhaps with water, or is that unsafe
m4tttc 2 years ago
For earwax in particular you need to use soap/water as water is not very efficient at cleaning off wax. I would highly recommend using the ear wax remover they give you. The tips are made from silicon, and therefore wax will easily come off with Q-tips or a tool like the one they give you.
