Hold on tight, my people Don't get weary Don't lose your strength We can see They wanted to hold us back One by one They will not succeed One by one We will win One by one They will not succeed One by one (Repeat) We will win Because We know who we are Because We know who we are (Repeat) Come and see The cowards are running away (Repeat x3)
The color of my skin That is dark I'm proud of it The color of my skin That is dark I will die with it The color of my skin That is dark I'm proud of it Oh yes It's beautiful in Africa
Saw this with mai bfflz in middle school. Now whenever I need a pick me up, I just listen to this and I'm reminded "Hey, you're Black, and you're awesome. Nuff said." It really makes me proud of our people.
@rikkuschocobos Except you'd be learning the wrong language genius... This is more Zulu than anything else. Trust me, I'm proudly South African and I know my mother tongue when it's spoken (or in this case sung). Your confusion is forgiven though as Swahili also forms part of the Nguni languages spoken in Sub-Saharan Africa... 10 points for effort though ;-) On the bright side at least you got the continent right...
@chocolatedarkie Forgive my ignorance, Almighty KNOW IT ALL. Forgive a lowly American for wanting to try and get cultured with the few resources we have in my area. A friend of mine from Kenya told me it was Swahili. Maybe she was messing with me, maybe not. Maybe if you learned to play nice you wouldn't sound like such a jerk. So much for being one.
I sung this song when i was in high school!! its such an awesome song...i feel like in a choir of 58, i was probably the only person who remembered the words lol this was about 3 or 4 years ago..
Saw this show last week in london, it was amazing! and this scene was just breathtaking with this wonderfull music and all the birds everywhere in the crowd!
It does not mean that it means that the color of my skin is dark and I will die that way. Try and buy the actual soundtrack for the musical it has the literal translations.
My choir is doing the same song also, and I'm doing the male solo, and to answer your question, you can easily make your singing voice sound native. It's not hard.
This is a delayed answer.. But in the song "One By One", they are saying things such as"Hold on tight my people". they are pretty much singing about being taken down "one by one" . but the way they sing of, they are saying that it wont kill their spirits. i hope this helped a bit
Ive known this song forever, now while searching through The Lion King music I find what its called. I love it when that happens.

@jawaiianboy13 The silence wasn't actually on the recording - the poster added it to the song so that the video would not be taken down by Youtube.
