  • Both pedals kick ass, but I like the Maxon just a little bit better. More amp like tone. Tubes make the magic happen.

  • Nice playing man!

  • i have fender twin 65 ri in your opinion is better 880 or 881????

  • Sounds like Ty Tabor

  • A Maxon pedal is better.....

  • Both sound excellent. Which one is better? The 880 or 881?and Have you tried the Ibanez tube king?

  • @alepaan I got a Tube King this morning. I'm taking it back this evening in favor of an ROD-881, if that tells you anything. They're more money but enjoying your tone to the max is priceless.

  • You can feed it with 12volts no problem..i do the same with mine..and I swapped the stock 12AY7 for a chinese 12AX7....it blew me away.

  • Changing the tube for a 12AX7 will make it much tighter..

  • @RangioN2 can you please tell me how the tube makes the dist or sound in general tighter. actually its a coincidence. i just listened to the behringer tube monster right before this. i am not a sound tech ect.. but i noticed the sound was just so scattered. when i saw you typed "tighter" i was like, damn i heard it right. so how does a tube make the sound tighter?

  • Changing the tube will radically change the pedal response. And I am not just talking about increasing the gain. Every tube has a different response in the frequency range, thus the different sound. I am now using mine with a Sovtek 12ax7LPS. I have also tried NOS RFT, Mullard, Tungsram ECC83 and RFT and Mullard ECC81 as well, I found this last one one to be pretty good as well. Obviously the total amount of gain is a bit lower if compare to an ECC83.

  • Every tube has a different response in the frequency range (some will show enhaced highs and lows, as most of the current production russian tubes. Different tubes will make this pedal sound totally different. And I am not talking about a slight difference. It is something You do not need to be an expert to realize, when You try swapping tubes. Apar5t from that, it just depends on Your taste and needs, whether or not You will like a tube more than another..

  • Different tube = different frequency response. Try swapping some different tubes in this pedal and You will instantly understand what I am talking about.

  • wow, thats the magic to your tone. i had mine and its sounded different still good but not tight. about the 12V DC is it modded or i could just plug it in?

  • wow, such difference, i used mine in a 9V DC which somehow i guess i'm putting into power starvation. 12 V DC is modded or i am able to just plug it in?

  • hey are you using the stock tubes for the maxon?

  • Not stock , 12AX7 EH and more power 12V DC

  • @DRUSJKI have you tried the marshall shredmaster? is the maxon as transparent as the shredmaster. you can never tell with youtube videos right. sometimes they can make pedals sound much better or much worse.

  • Maxon-the best pedalmaker

  • It is maybe because of the speakers my computer features but I'd like a little bit less low mids.

  • You actually got a great clean for this..

  • Great Sound! I am pretty interested in your amp..it seems to sound amazing but seems to be an unknown specimen! Could You tell me more about it? I could not find anything on the net!

Thank You! (Great drop D pentatonics!)

  • If i'm not wrong its a old transistor amp, and it should be acquired pretty cheap, but not entirely sure :)

    it sounds bloody good though

  • You play just like Treetopper :)

  • settings (in clocks)):

    Maxon:- Gain-15/Level-14/Bass-15/Mids-11/Treble-13

    Emma ; Level 13/Tone-10(11)/Bias-10/Gain-14

  • stock santana-3 pups

  • Span-"Papa" it's Norwegian band

  • Great video dude, awesome playing.

  • that is sick playing man. really nice tone.

  • Both sound pretty good...I think the maxon has some more definition, and the Reeza has a bit more harmonics that jump out.

I think I'll go with the 880. Thanks for the vid!

  • please, tell what are your amp and reezafratzitz settings!!!

    i LOVE your sound!!!!

  • well for an example

for welcome home by coheed and cambria it goes from clean to distorted

    and for one last breath

those might help you help me deside lol

  • i have a line6 spiderIII amp

but the reason i need a pedal to get from a clean sound to a distorted sound is cuz some of the songs i play go from a clean sound to a distorted sound

  • hmm

im looking for a pedal that can bring my clean sound to a rock distortion

and i think i the maxon is the one im looking for

but im unsure because i have been playing guitar for about a year

so if anyone can make an suggestion then please do so :)

It all depends on your playing style and what kind of tone you're after.

If it's vintage and/or 80' Marshall style distortion you're after, then you need to check out the Maxon ROD 880/ROD 881, the Fulltone OCD or the Carl Martin Plexitone.

However, if it's more of an over-the-top high gain shredfest tone you're after, then you need to hear the Guyatone Metal Monster and Krank Distortus Maximus.

  • I've got an Reeza and it kicks, but that Maxon is thicker with a bit more bite-I may have to get one ;-)(or an 881) Thanks to you and You Tube!

  • hellgd

  • so which one do U like better, their pretty similar, but I think I like the Maxon ROD880 better, I am about to purchase a Maxon ROD881 and run it through marshall TSL JCM 2000 and ESP Ec wit EMG's.

  • Is that Soulhat at the beginning? I'm the mighty bone-crusher!

  • I'm more a vintage guitar fan, but here i have to admit that you get a killer tone with that PRS...

    Well done mate

  • i love that note separation on the maxon :X the emma is ss right?

  • Yeah the Emma is SS

  • how much did that hohner amp cost?

  • I dont know )) its very old )

  • Nice playing man! Check out my videos, I got an Emma ReezaFratZitz too :)

    It's cool!

  • Hi, can I take on rod 880 some mild, fat crunch ?? like plexi ??

  • damn nice sound!

  • Крутые звучки :)

    А гитара,... болдею.
