  • I dropped my phone and the homebutton stopped working, everything else works its just the home button doesnt, What can i do to fix this.

  • white lettering on white background...awesome

  • What's the song name ?

  • Thank You. I was following another video and ran into problems but I found the answer on your video. It is done very well and easy to follow.

  • Don't do this, you are asking for a total disaster, you'll break your phone like I did mine. Now it's useless I don't think I can even sell it on eBay.

  • @Proboxing2001

I broke the number 3 tab he was talking about on my 3G last year and sold it on ebay without a screen assembly or anything and got 74 bucks out of it. Damn near anything will sell on ebay so don't sweat it

  • Hello! I wonder if the home button has the same size as the iPod Touch 4G? If yes i would like to buy a iPhone 4 white button to replace it

  • Great vid, I replaced my screen, digitizer and home button on my 3G. BUT when I did the home button my receiver/mic stopped working so people can't hear me on the phone. Any idea's on that? Looks like all my connections are solid.

  • i broke my phone from doing these ...

  • Good you said that thing about the motherboard. That fixed my problem!

  • thank you i didnt have a heat gun but the thin blad worked had to iphones (3Gs) with different problems and used them to make a refurbishd iphone 3Gs 13Gb

  • Thanks! I just replaced my home button and broke my LCD!

  • I want to change the colour of the home button so can I just buy the home button & not the button cable (button works fine). There are many colours for the iPhone 4 can I buy that (just the button & not cable attached) to put in the iPhone 3G ? I heard that both buttons are different because they are different phone models. Thanks. :)

  • I went through two home buttons because of the liquid one has to use for the Zagg invisible shield. The spring metal parts didn't break off but the liquid damaged the actual sensor.

  • Good work on video. I will try soon

  • Thanks! I just fixed my home button because of your kindness :D Now I can sell it for a decent price!

  • Coldplay FTW!

  • Good tutorial.....Hi! My iphone 3g touch screen did not work properly. Like Setting - 2nd option the wifi lane, dial pad first row (No. 1, 2 & 3) and on cydia, manage – sources – the 2nd lane on the list. Any help will be deeply appreciated.... Subscribe..

  • good video. just wondering, what's the song in the background?

  • I'm 14 and I've changed my iPhone 3GS from all black to all white, by myself and it came out great

  • My home button broke, popped out actually

If any one can help email me

    William23325@aol.com

  • fuck this i wont wreck my iphone by opening it - btw im 16

  • Dammmm, Just broke my LCD trying to pry it open. So yes $25 additional. Should have gone to a pro.

Also I cannot for pete sake figure out how to heat and open the final glass screen to finally put the home button in. I am sorry, but its not very clear from your vid.

You heat and then pull what part ? You said it easily comes off ? Not happening :-( Help out a brother.

  • @spacyfoil it's not as easy as it's made out to be. I heated it and slipped the L tool between the 2 layers. a small black gasket of sorts currently seals that edge. But if you can get your L tool slightly between, you can heat it right there with your hairdryer... of course after much heating of the glass side prior to getting the L slipped even slightly. be firm but gentle is my recommendation.

  • thank u, i luff u :D

  • @OdellSingh simply shut the fuck up with the spam

  • Great video!!! Thank you.

  • what the song called but helpful vid

  • are these original components?

  • my iphone is fucked but do u no if u can put the rubber border on the sides of the front

  • Does anyone know if this process could be repeated for an Iphone 4?

  • Awesomeee

  • I like that but what song is that?

  • my top button is broke...does anybody knw how i can turn it back on if i ever let it die??

  • @mainpooh. Plug in the iphone to charge it and it should start up then. If not, then it's more than a button problem!

  • I appreciate the reply but as it turns out, the problem ended up working itself out. I knew I needed the power button replaced and I figured I'd just pay a technician to do that, as I didn't want to continue replacing every part one-by-one on my own without yielding a positive end result. When I took it in, they asked me the problem and I turned it on...the lcd was perfect. Which has me believing that the original was okay as well. Either way, it's up and running again. Thanks for the assist.

  • thanks love the song as well bro

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. Never would have figured it out.

  • hêh_ànÿÒNe_wAnnå_chát_wÎth_me_î_fêél_sõ_lÒñèlý_tødáÿ...

  • just broke my lcd :(

  • I slagged my button with the heat gun while replacing my screen. This video got me through the button repair. This first repair was nerve wracking - much easier after that - stay strong people!

  • Not sure if it's mentioned in the thread, but regarding resetting to get back to your home screen while you wait for the tools: You can do it without restarting the phone. Just to to emergency call, then cancel it before dialing, then reswipe and it will reset to home screen.

  • Thank you very much! Bought the new button and ribbon.. followed your instructions and PERFECT!! A+++

  • did you know how to fix iphone if yes please give me your number

  • thanks for posting. i was able to bend the contact points up and fixed my phone thanks to your video. many thanks!!

  • how i wish i can give my 3g to let you fix it . im an art student and ill make things messed up in this field

  • Zagg is not bulletproof! it only helps prevent scratches but not impacts! i'd rather get scratches instead of cracks so use a case

  • THANK YOU!!! Just replaced my home button, dock and battery. I used a few different tutorials, but this was the only one for the home button. You rock!

  • Successful replacement. Thanks for the video!

  • Nice. Bent the Home Button up, in half, a bit, now it works, until I get the new parts and repair.

All the PopUp text is quite helpful.

    Love it.

  • idk how you people get the tools to work. The suction cup just pops off and the pry tools peel

  • Took me a while to get it too. There's a video on youtube titled "iPhone 3G Disassembly - EASIEST Way To Open Your iPhone 3G" I don't know how to put links in the comments section

  • fantastic video, but please... next time, rethink the song

  • I did it! Fixed my home button. Isn't perfect but better than not working at all. This video would be better if it were video and not a slideshow. Oh well, it went through the steps and helped me fix my home button. So yes, even someone as tech illiterate as I am, this "video" walked me through the steps and I'm happy. The hardest part was separating the screen from the metal/plastic frame (so the second to last step). Other than that it works!!!

  • U say u've put in a better battery. First of all, can u tell u did that? I mean....does it last longer? Second, which battery did u get? Because I'm looking for 1 on eBay, but don't know which one to get.

Hope to hear from u. Thnx.

  • You forgot to mention to make sure that connector 4 hasn't been knocked loose. VERY IMPORTANT :)

  • @crailborn sounds like a LCD and it is very easy to replace. I just did one a couple days ago. You can get a LCD for like $20 with tools on eBay.

  • Thanks for the info, I'll look into it.

  • Hello all, I did pretty much a complete breakdown all the way before the heat gun step for the home button. I continue to get the white screen, and I was wondering, how does one know if it's simply a damaged housing or if they truly ruined their lcd? I can't identify any torn or damaged ribbon cables or dead pixels in the screen, but I also cannot hear any buttons or sounds when I touch the screen, leading me to believe it's the digitizer. Any thoughts?

  • @crailborn - White Screen sounds like LCD. I'd start there. You can buy the whole assembly with lcd and digitizer on ebay, or separately.

  • @paraglidr woahh dude your lcd screen isnt busted look up iphone 3gs white screen on youtube and a guy shows you how to fix it by holding down the home button, volume button and the sleep button!!!! dont buy a new one!!!

  • @crailborn I have noticed that if the connector number 1 is not well connected or not connected at all, you'll get a white screen. As soon as I placed right, it worked again.

By the way, what's the song of the video?

  • @aganito The song is by Coldplay - Trouble! Great tune!!!

  • @crailborn

    Congratulations and many thanks !

I did it and it works fine !

No need to heat for more than 2 or 3 mn, and i separated the 2 layers less than 1/2 an inch : just enough to replace the home button.

    great job !

    merci beaucoup !

    Antoine

  • You'd think the Iphone woud have like an 'x'or something to exit a page like windows.

  • hi there is there a differences between the home button from the iphone 4 and the 3g or 3gs?

  • Good lighting, clear closeups ( still shots are better for that ), X to mark the spot, even a decent song, Well Done.

  • Nice video but could you do the same video for an iphone 4 (just the home button)please

    Thanks =)

  • Excellent Guide. Thumbs up for taking the time and effort to do it.

  • thank you very much! i took apart my 3gs and there was just a bit of corrosion on the terminals. after cleaning them it works great. sweat is the ultimate killer of this phone. you should add this into ur video that corrosion may be the problem.

  • baked mine at 140 degrees for 2 hours and a brand new Blackberry Bold 9700 came out.. OMG I'm so happy!

  • @w00tmc hahahahahahaaa... hey man, the oven thing people are talking about wasnt my idea. it was just a matter of time before somebody made a comment like this. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • damn this. i broke my LCD

  • you are correct, i tried pinching the connector into a vshape and placing a little cotton underneath to push it up and the tape was able to make contact with the board. kudos.

  • You cannot afford iphone? There is giveaway at gifter7 . com Take your chance NOW

    like it

  • Ok I am thirteen and my home button stopped working. Since I didn't want to take it apart I kept looking for ways to fix it on the internet. Sometimes, The home button does not work because of dust and other particles that have got up in the charger area. Take a clean toothbrush and scrub inside the charger area. Scrub medium to harly making you you get all of them out. Thanks. :)

  • Great Video... helped out perfectly!!! your awesome!

  • i JUST bent my connector that had broken tabs and my home button now works. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

  • Is this exactly the same for the 3gs or can someone post a link to the repair for the home button flex ribbon replacement for 3gs, i can't seem to find any specifically for the 3gs thanks! video looks good though gonna try it this way.

  • The number 3 tab didnt lift up an down... the ribon came out without effort so i replaced the button using the oven method.... when i went to put the number 3 connector back, the white tab snapped and now i have no way to reconnect it.:(

now i can see the piece which lifts up and down is actually black! :( waaaaaaaa

  • The number 3 tab didnt lift up an down... the ribon came out without effort so i replaced the button using the oven method.... when i went to put the number 3 connector back, the white tab snapped and now i have no way to reconnect it.:(

  • Is it possible for you to provide further detail on how to try and repair the broken gold tabs before replacing the connector?

    thanks

  • thank you, saved my life

  • Are the cables for touch found on top too?? So that the stick the tape top to prevent ripping off

  • WATCH THE VIDEO ON MY PAGE ON HOW TO DO THIS . MY VERSION IS BEST

  • I agree with @ineedfiles. USE AN OVEN AT 200 DEGREES FOR 3 MINUTES!

most people don't own a heat gun, and the blow dryer takes way too long.

I made the mistake the first time of using an exact'o knife after the blow dryer, the glue wasn't melted enough, and I slipped and cut my thumb pretty badly.

no home repair is worth hurting yourself! use an oven! I did that the second time, and it worked perfectly!

  • @TooFastNoClass

placing the screen inside the oven at 200 degrees for 3 minutes won't damage the cables attached to the screen?

  • Very helpful. I did NOT remove the LCD from the digitizer. Used a hair dryer, not heat gun. There was no damage to LCD due to heat. This might spare some folks froms damaging their LCD. Regards.

  • @jeffkoe310 thanks for the comment. glad to be of help. good tip with the hairdryer. I used a commercial heat gun on low- no idea what that would do to the lcd. I learned later that the lcd is easily removed if you know the trick, which i added to the video later. doh. :-) PS BE WARNED PEOPLE, THE REPLACEMENT LCD'S ARE PHONE SPECIFIC FOR THE 3G AND 3GS. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT ONE IF YOU REPLACE YOUR LCD. THE 3GS LCD CONNECTOR WILL NOT FIT THE 3G PHONE.

  • Great video! too bad I didn't watch this one to replace my digitizer because I broke up my lcd...

  • @salsadict0 yeah, is easy to break the lcd- unless you know the trick. i learned the tricks after i broke mine, then a guy on ebay sent me a 3gs lcd, and they do not fit the 3g phone. school of hard knocks. :-)

  • how much would it cost to get your home button fixed at the apple store?

  • "Trouble" Coldplay i <3 :'(

makes me feel depressed but i feel tat all time

  • Great video paraglidr! Really helped me make this repair...thanks for taking the time to post it!

  • I can't afford a hair dryer, so I turned my oven on to 200 degrees, placed the glass on the rack for 3 minutes.. And it worked!

  • Thanks for the pictures. I didn't replace the button but dropped two blobs of solder onto the contacts and now it works fine again. Everybody should try that before ordering a whole new button.

  • Excellent video! I wish I known about the tape before I attacked my iPhone with the suction cup. Luckily the cables didn't break

  • Perfect. Thanks for the help. My daughter's home button quit working on her. After following your video I was able to replace it for her and it cost us around $5 or so. Much cheaper than buying a new phone!

  • @WilsonZone you're welcome, glad it worked out for you

  • @paraglidr Please read and reply, I have an Iphone 3gs, and the lcd had worked , i was texting and it randomly went white and pink, i then opened it, and turned on the phone by accident and put the lcd on while the phone was on , people say the lcd burned out, is this true? And if i get a replacement lcd will it work or do i need a new whole digitizer and lcd? Cause all i see on my screen right now is black background and gray lines, Please help.

  • @staver76 - sounds to me like just the lcd. buy an lcd for 3gs (3g lcd connector is not the same) on ebay, try that first. i got an lcd for 27 bucks.

  • @paraglidr Thank you very much, you saved me a lot of money, btw dealextreme has them for 27 dollars, and they are a really good and cheap site, (my friend has ordered numerous ds parts, and they have a cool iphone scope, not rly good with 3gsbut nice with 4 @.@) however, i have ordered a bluetooth keyboard on the 15th or 11th or 7th of november, and it has not gotten to me since, just a heads up about the shipping times (may be 21 days they say) if you do decide to go there, again thanks!

  • My home button is hyper responsive how do i fix that???

  • great video! I just replaced my buddies busted 3G home button... $12 part. Apple store wanted $220!! HA!

Only missing instruction is after heating up, how you separated the glass from plastic. I had to really heat it up, then use an exacto knife to split the two parts. In this process, the rubber gasket around the end was damaged! not the end of the world though.

    THANKS!

  • is the ribbon of the 2g 16gb iphone the same of the 3g? i have a broken home buttom of a 3g and an old 16gb 2g.. so i want to replace the home button but i dont know if they are the same felx cicuit?

  • how do u pry up connector 1?.. it seemed to pop out n i dont know how to pry the connectors to put it back in, help pls :)

  • Thanks! Fixed it :) Good tune.

    :)C

  • use your shzame to find outlol

  • Thanks a lot. This saved me a lot of money. I just bent a little the contacts and my Home Button works again.

  • YES!! thx dude!! worked like a charm!

  • Awesome vid man. Just fixed my wife's 3G. Thanks a ton! Great pics and notes too. I'm stoked!

  • i used a bit of tinfoile when1 pin broke and now it works fine.

  • @vorkev1 dude your fucking awesome my shit wasnt worken at all and i cleaned it with alcohol and used tin foil....works like a charm thanks!

  • Where do you buy iPhone spare parts? Tks

  • Great video, worked like a charm. Thanks!!!!!!!

  • best video online... helped a lot

    thnx very much

  • whats the songs name?

  • @emrann12 - "Trouble" by Coldplay kinda gets in your head, huh? :-)

  • As much as this is a good, in-depth video... it's very confusing. You tell us to do something then say BUT WAIT... when you could have just told us what before hand :/

Nice job though, best video I've seen.

  • @Ballooner360 - Thanks. I only set out to fix my own phone, and take some pics in case i needed reference points. I didn't take the pics with the idea of making this video, which is why there is all kinds of repetition, redundancy, and out of sequence pics. It's kind of a cluster that way,- i tried to clarify with notes the stuff i didnt have pics of. but it seems to help people anyway. Thanks for the comment

  • Great video! I did, however, crack my lcd screen. Boo!

  • this song perfectly describes how i feel now that my home button is broke

  • @TnGPLO3G3R agreed! Mine has been semibroken, takes many pushes for a month now. So sad! I am almost fixed though, but broke my lcd in the process.

  • My home button dose not work so i opened my Phone and the 2 s shaped gold things are intact so i bend them to a v shape like you said but it still dose not work do you think it is something else?

  • @sick02GtVert - maybe the contacts are just dirty. GENTLY without breaking - clean the v shaped gold prongs and the mating surface on the other half of the phone with alcohol on a q-tip or a pencil eraser. dont break the prongs. if that

doesnt work, then the innards of the 7 dollar button are probably bad. good luck

  • can we place the damaged home button with a new one without separating the glass from the plastic frame?? I mean, from the back?? Please suggest..thnx

  • @vyr247 Nope. heat up the glass from the glass side with a hair dryer, and carefully peel the plastic frame away. its stuck there with double stick tape. the other choices are to add solder to the tabs or bend the tabs so they make contact. good luck.

  • Really good discriptive video! Good job man

  • legend

  • Does It Work Wit 2G??

  • a thousand thanks... :) i just fixed my iphone 3G.... replace the flex cable with my precision tools and hairdryer in about 30 mins..... :D

  • The music is good. The video is redundant. You mentioned the same steps numerous times. Remove LCD. Next, remove LCD.

Here's some advice; Don't ever heat the plastic side of the mid frame. Heat only the glass side.

  • thnks dude very Helphul.... my mom was very happy i fixed her iphone...

  • Hell yea soldering fixed my home button. thank you sstiggy

  • how do you actually remove the home button cable?? cause my home button has ripped of the cable

  • my contact pints are bent or broken but i dropped it the speakers dont work and the home button doesnt work? any ideas what might be the problem

  • Thank you so much for this video.

I would have definately broken my iPhone!

I broke my home button after a back plate replacement...

I am still awaiting my new home button, but getting to the stage of getting the old one out was so easy with this video, although i have slightly cracked the screen, but not bad enough it needs replacing right away.

But i will let you know how it goes putting in the new home button.

Thanks again for a great, easy to follow video :)

  • God bless you dude.

  • Thank you for sharing, I have spent a lot time on searching the solutions but I guess I will go with yours! So clear and helpful instruction! Save me a lot money and time.

  • I actually ordered the button but figured I'd give it a try, mine had 1 tab snap the other came off completely and only left the small circle to solder to, so now I have an extra button assembly just in case, but again great video

  • OMG this video is amazing!!!! i mean the iphone stuff is great but damn!

  • I found another quick fix, I used a soldering iron and put a very small dot of solder on top of the broken contacts (just large enough to make contact with the point on the main body of the phone)

  • @sstiggy - Bingo. glad this worked for u. i mention the solder at :34 seconds, have heard others do this. that would have been my play, too except i already had the button ordered and on hand. Several others here bent the contacts successfully.

  • Couldn't*

  • Damn dude you saved my phone!!! I was going crazy cause i could get my crap to work. I replaced my LCD screen for the hell of it but my real goal was my home button and your video was the light at the end of the tunnel for me hahaha, but im sure many like me appreciate this video soo much. Thanks for the help

  • @sruiz89 - u are absolutely welcome. it makes my day to hook somebody up. I've saved a lot of stuff from tips i've learned here, so happy to give back now and then. have a good one and thanks for the comment

  • Dude you saved me some serious cash! Thanks a ton for paying it forward...fyi. for whomever is gonna try this: the shot with the heat gun pointed at the LCD is misleading because it's so hard to remove you'd think you have to melt something off...try bending the rails outwards a bit; makes it easier to drop the LCD back in after it's done. Also, note that anything you use to pry it open will make contact with the unprotected LCD..unless you bend the outer rails outwards first...

  • @rg1025 - hey thanks for the comment. saving some iphone devotees some dough was the whole idea. glad it worked for u. took pics during the surgery cause i'm freakish that way. the video was an afterthought. i learned about the rails the second time around, too :-)

  • Thank you so much!! :-)

  • Thanks for the video. Works For me!!!

  • Crazy, my phone cracked in the same spot a few months ago. Only recently did the Home button stop working consistently. Are these related?

  • What i think broke the home button was the invisible shield my bro had that problem too

  • i still have the springy tab things. and it doesnt work............

  • @backintack - then either they or the contacts on the opposite side are dirty. clean w alchohol or electrical contact cleaner and gentle q-tip. if that doesnt work, the button itself is probably bad. try bending up the tabs a little without breaking them

  • @paraglidr k thanks. i think your one of the only useful people on youtube
