Paul is a great player, He could play on a board with struings, a pickup and coat hanger benders and make it sould good. Sho Buds are great guitars, The Player, Paul Franklin is even Greater, The Amp was the problem. Promoters need to understand what the players need and have it for them if they can't have there own setup.
Here is what Paul said about his gear on the Forum "The guitar was a loaner and it sure sounds good on this clip.....My guitar and amp were in Nashville. .The aggressive part of how it sounds was because of how hard I had to pick to get any sustain out of it. That was mostly because of the amp problems I was having.....The amp was self compressing and a softer attack just disappearedI could not figure out a way to get around the amp problem other than play extremely hard..... "
This video was shot in August of 2009 at a concert in the Faroe Islands (of the coast of Norway). Paul was using a Sho-Bud supplied by the promoter, as it was not cost effective to fly all the gear from the USA. I remember Paul commenting that he felt a bit "limited" by the Sho-Bud, but it sure sounds good to me :)
Damn, he can even play in Dutch! :) My Sho~Bud doesn't sound like that... sure wish it did, though. Paul's tone, and of course his playing, sounds excellent as always, but to me it doesn't sound like Paul playing his Franklin. It sounds like Paul playing a Sho~Bud. I love it! It would be cool to hear Paul play a push-pull Emmons, too. Great vid, thanks for posting.
I was also surprised to see Paul Franklin sitting behind a ShoBud but he still sounds the same as always , in fact when I first heard the steel I assumed he was playing his Franklin then I saw the ShoBud.........what a great pedal steel player .
