  • Wow rough landing

  • good luck trying to get out of that mess.

  • wow that's impressive

  • I am pretty sure Air Tindi is Canadian, I remember seeing it at CYXS when I was getting on an Air Canada Jazz flight.

  • Who were the 2 losers that hit dislike

  • LOL, That was cool !

  • Must suck for the Cessna landing in the whiteout behind em on final :P

  • Why on earth would someone do something such as this?

  • I wonder if they have to clear the snow before it can take off? I couldn't get up much speed in that much snow I'd imagine.

  • So this is how they clear the ice for pond hockey up north!

  • yeah you need horse power to move in snow like that.

  • that was amazing

  • you can just here the amount of thrust needed to push itself through the snow

  • @MultiJay18 "FO reversers please.... scratch that full power"

  • Does that plane come with a snow plow attachment?

  • how come the ice that went into the intake didnt jam the engine ?

  • this is the coolest snow plane landing video i ever seen!!!!!!!!! like how the propeller just chops up chunks of snow flying toward it from the front ski.

  • yeah, that is one bumpy landing. I was wondering how was the takeoff that would have been an interesting video too. looks like a lot of drag. but I see a comment that said it was smooth. thanks for the video.

  • I thought it was hard to ski, that guys skiing a twin otter! If he here to stop I wonder if he would sink in a few feet =P

  • randing snow. very good.

  • That's scary as mess when you start bouncing like that... I can't imagine landing in snow. But I suppose since it's a lake the surface is all flat (assuming nothing like a log was on the lake when it froze, causing a snow drift to form)..... That would be thrilling though

  • I think I know the guy that owns tindi

  • At least plow the dam snow abit ! U could even use a snowmachine an a small drag.

  • Awesome Canadian design!

  • text book

  • This guy was somethign else in 2004 in Obre Lake, a real hot dog'

  • Whoa! That looked like a crazy rough ride. Imagine sitting in a seat towards the back. :-o

  • I can imagine how hard it would be to take off on that snow - it would seem impossible!! I love the sound of those Pratt & Whitney engines though - Great Video thanks for posting!!

  • I am an A&P and watching the landing gear flex made me cringe... However I would love to be able to do this one day.. Soft Field landing on some snow

  • Is the idea to get the plane as slow as possible reasonably quickly after landing then taxi to your location or do you allow the plane to slow down on it's own...?

  • @sanfranciscobay I don't fly skis, but generally you want to slow the airplane down quickly, using it's own natural drag. This is a pretty good example of why - imagine going over those humps at 80 instead of 30

  • did the engines actually run to the max power or did it just sound like they were going to explode every moment?

  • @fidan2fast They just sound loud, they were nowhere near being wide open. The pilot had to apply more thrust to get through the deep snow, but he certainly did have it at full thrust

  • @fidan2fast It's a camera thing, it makes high pitched sounds sound rediculously louder than they are.

  • i could only imagine the horrible bumpy ride inside.

  • How did the people feel inside this airplane on this landing?

  • Im certain that I would not have been a calm passenger on that ride

  • fufido

    :D

  • You gotta love Twotters. I sure do. They're like trucks with wings. Thanks for posting.

  • i love watching the plane bob through the snow so much for some reason?

  • He was not taxing at full power. The props were full forward pitch making any power input sound as if it's "taking off"

  • nice

  • That is so cool

  • geez y use reverse at all in these conditions...and taxi with all that power with flaps extended..dude wtf?

  • @jderumeu "geez y use reverse at all in these conditions" ---I guess you have not heard of a DHC-6 Station60..stop the plane before you break it.

  • Full reverse.

  • wow that is realy bumpy! doenst look that safe :P very nice vid!!!

  • love the new nose on the latest twin otters

  • dude ur not supposted to land in the snow, theres plenty of room in the background WITHOUT SNOW!!!!!!

  • twin otter does what no other airplane can do! OTTERS FTW!

  • lol Air Tindi Ltd. based out of Yellowknife N.T. canada

  • Beautiful :D

  • Hope you don't have to roll drums in that deep snow.

  • lol bogged much....

  • WOW. Would poop myself on first landing on snow? Ski's must feel pretty strange first time?!

  • now thats why twin otters were made

  • I know right!

  • What a B-E-A-Utiful sight!

  • great vid!! we canot imagine how hard it is!!

  • Great footage.

  • Great video! I just wonder how he's later going to get back up from that lake?!

    5/5

  • i got ten bucks on him flyin outta there

  • That is one bumpy ride

  • What size are them garretts

  • They are actually Pratt & Whitney PT6A-27 engines. With 620SHP.

  • Thank you I fly an Air Tractor 502B with PT6A-34. Used to fly Turboo Thrush with TPE331-6. Wish I had an Otter.

  • Lovely Machine I love this plane, watch them landing in SABA, just type in SABA landings it's amazing.

  • Wow, what a great, tough airplane!

  • Amazing what the gear can take. Maybe stupid question, but how did they take off again. Months later on floats?

  • They take right back off if they need to.

  • With or without afterburner?

  • lol. Without, just with a 120 kias headwind.

  • 3x lol: the launch from a steam catapult must be the answer. Takeoff in one straight line to Vmo. Do no forget to rotate.

  • and don't forget to watch out for traffic... aka santa.

  • Santa has special TCAS for below FL290

  • WOW, I never thought it's so bumpy on the snow.

  • the otter is such an amazing aircraft. so versatile and is a beauty to watch.

  • awesome !

  • looks like fun

  • Also!! this is in my opinion, the safest ship in the sky.

  • I just got back from a camp we are building south of Hudson Bay Ontario we hauled all the equipment to start May 1st

this Plane can haul everything in a few trips..sweet plane.

  • That's cool I wish I had one ,skis or floats fly anywhere ya want

  • Long run out take off with that snow drag?

  • Nah, they left the cargo behind so they were a nice and light rocket ship on the way out

  • We were empty leaving so it was a short slide. There still isn't an aircraft to compete with the versatility of the Twin Otter!!

  • Was it only that section coverded with snow drift or is the whole lake like that.

  • Never actually trekked across the lake, but it appeared to be all snow pack. Never saw any bare ice from the air

  • The lake was covered in drifts and this was the best place to land.

  • if the end of the world comes- i want a dehavilland to get me the #$@# out of dodge!

  • darnd right!

  • ummm....that definatly was not full power just to taxi....but did look rough

  • full power just to taxi!

  • Yeah, it seemed like it. How's he gonna take off?

  • it would whine so much more at full power

  • for a second i thought the ice broke

  • Was this in Northern Sask? At an Aurora Geoscience camp??

  • Indeed it was

  • Sweet it was me!!! Nice video.

  • title should belanding on wheel-skis!

  • Thats lucky it's a twin, if that was a single engine, good evening prop strike!

  • Cool video.

  • beautiful plane love the twin otter

  • Awesome!!!!
