wow, that was amazing. and as for the background, i think someone should stage a version of where everything should just erupt into flames like that for the Liebestod.
I wish they had uploaded the whole thing. This was so moving and so beautifully sung. Jessye Norman sings the Liebestod as if it was a spiritual song, with a spirituality and magic and holiness that is very rare in most Isoldes. I think she had in her to be a great Isolde
Superb; completly without any week point interpretation!!!. It makes it look easy when she just delivers that glorious voice, flowing like a river of emotions, that embarge us into a Divine trip with her. Thanks for sharing with us DeccaMusicGroup.
Are there words the dictionary to describe the beauty we are hearing being perform by Jessye Norman? This is music of the finest quality. You actually feel yourself elevating and soaring through the atmosphere. It’s a pity it has an ending
I cannot believe the poster CUT OFF THE END! This is my favorite piece of hers, and I still tear up when I listen to it because I took my, now departed, father to see her. We sat on the third row center right beneath her while she commanded what seemed the whole earth..as she performed. My father said "she stops time!"
WOW! A60stock-Sorry.shouldn't have said I was jealous. Hearing Jessye Norman live at the Proms might have overwhelmed me.I saw _Die Zauberflote_ in Vienna, and the memory of it still gices me goosebumps! Mozart operas are my favorites, followed by the great French opers of the 19th century. Norman's recording of _Carmen_ is the best of the three I have. Lol, opera fans are so contentious. A friend nearly threw me from a moving car-on the highway- for saying that I didn't like Callas' version.
This recording with its compressed sound does not do justice to Jessie's wide dynamics. I can assure you that listening to her at the Proms was a fantastic experience. Back in the 1970s and 80s she was a regular performer at the Proms and always terrific and popular.
Good for you. Does that discount every other soprano who wishes to sing this role because you like Nilson's performance most of all? She's astounding, and Norman is also great. Also take into account this recording's quality is not exactly the best, and even more distorted thanks to youtube.
favorite soprano, hands down

Sorry, I prefer B. Nilson.

Nilsson was without great. Jessye's voice, however, was closest to Kirsten Flagstad.

I don't like her. Her voice is not right for this role. Her German is terrible, I don't understand that she is saying.

Dymension:
I agree. Thta's high praise indeed, as Flagstad was one of , if not the best dramatic sopranos to ever sing Wagner.
