Love this version by Willie but it still can't top Walter Hustons which leaves me in tears everytime I play it. Reminds me of my darling Grandfather who died way back in 1953.
~~ oh, the days dwindle down...to a precious few...september. november.....and theses few precious days i will spend with you..these precious days I'll spend with you, Shawn...I love you forever, Love, ♥ Charli ♥
you might say this album follows me where ever i go. i remember the store bought tape as a kid that got ruined, then I had this and on the road again as a 45 rpm. now I have the store bought tape again, the vinyl version, and my childhood friend who was involved in this when we were kids just came by to see me.
@ "mylesag2" Did you actually read my commentary? This song--ALL of the songs from "Stardust," are Willie's salute to great standards of the past--predating his own songwriting career. The fact that he did these "show(s) his appreciation for the works that came before him..." I've heard him say as much in interviews.
Finally, in what manner do my comments "sell short" the beauty of this song (which I obviously cared enough about to post)?
Timeless. Willie is a great songwriter, and his rendition of this standard--as well as the others from "Stardust" show his appreciation for the works that came before him.
@HouseofBurgessesLR ...what has Nelson's songwriting talent got to do with his rendition of SEPTEMBER SONG? While he does an excellent rendition of it, you also sell short the beauty of the song which was written by Kurt Weill (musc) and lyics by Maxwell Anderson. Also, the song's important opening and midway verses are omitted by Nelson.
Fab arrangement - Superb vocal style - A true message of life.

Nelson does a stellar performance in that Stardust album and that he knocks it out of the ball park with the September Song.
