Just brilliant.......had completely forgotten about the two-hand reel - and how different Irish dancing used to be (more subtle in Ulster of course - those flamboyant Galway girls.....!).
I miss dancing for Brian. I danced for him back in the late 90's and early 2000's . Such good memories of his feis in lincroft as well. Still have my school dress and the yellow poodle socks :)
i hope somebody noticed that most kids that age cant even trip over themselves properly much less dance like that. and they are men enough to wear kilts. courage AND talent. great post thanks.
Aw this is so cute!! It's made this 'senior lady' want to get my TCRG so I can teach some little ones how to dance. Maybe just one more Oireachtas though...lol
im 12 & have been wearing a kilt 2 dance since i first started dancing at the age of 5 . there is one other boy i know who wears a kilt but not all the time. i have tried dancing in trousers but always go back 2 wearing my kilt or skirt as some call it lol as it feels better can be a bit cold on the legs sumtimes lol
Honey, you keep that kilt and wear it proudly. You might be glad to know that we ladies love it because, as I've posted before, there's no finer legs on the planet than those of a dancer. It takes a REAL man to wear a kilt. That;s the truth, so be secure in yourself and keep your kilt, please? Best of wishes and brightest of blessings for you and your dancing :o)
I agree as an Irish Dancer be proud of that I wear my Kilt when Highland Dancing and i have done it at informal Irish Dances. Be proud Irish Dancing is in the blood and go wild with it.
That was good, but seriously the skirts on boys... well they need to go- it's not Highland dancing! And whatch the turnouts at the beggining of the dance. Not that it matters anymore, cuz it was 1987. Good job.
I used to dance from 1974 to 1981. We quit when the fancy dresses started to come in. With three girls dancing it was out of mum and dad's range. I don't particulary like the new way of dancing. Too much riverdance, not enough tradition.
I've got to agree. Great potential (I understand it's an OLD video and I'm sure he continued to improve afterwards) but he had no turnout whatsoever and I don't think his knees ever came close to straight.
You little B****. I bet you dance hard-shoe with taps on toes and heels. This boy would have got his sound out with nails in toe and heel. Dancing was different back then. It was more traditional. Not so 'Riverdancy'. Turnout was not an issue in 1987. Glad I don't dance anymore.
Well you are both right. Turnout was essential, but we used to start heel-to-heel, heel-to-toe and point. Now days it's heel-to-heel then toe-to-toe (you bascially cross your legs as if you are trying not to pee yourself. Back then it would have been thought of as freaky to overcross the way they do now.
I still prefer dance the old way, look for a video on youtube called "The Liverpool Hornpipe" its a step dance done in the 60's. Im gonna have a bash at learning it then post it on youtube. Your more than welcome to join me :D
Sean I am old enough to remember those unadorned days- thanks for bringing back so many happy memories of dances in Glasgow Scotland- more power to your elbow!!!

He was even more cute in 1986, his hair flashing blonde in the sun.

some great dancing by the dohertys. Where is this, and who's that fiddle player?
heidski 3 years ago
The first guy needs to increase his lift. The two hand figure dancers need to focus on dancing in unison.
aidaniam 3 years ago
You need to spend more time concentrating on your own dancing and less time commenting negatively on everyone else.

THANK YOU barker262! You couldn't be more right. Because of LOTD and Celtic Tiger(I despise Celtic Tiger) ID is certainly not what it used to be.

@cometirish
Absolutely right! Bring back the days when it was just talented dancing and not fancy dress!

Actually, turnout was an issue back in 1987. We just weren't encouraged to overcross. Some schools still don't go along with that new development.
valerie374 3 years ago
Turnout was essential in the 1980s...trust me.
It has been for the last few centuries. Read up on our topics before you start an argument.
