I saw this I Puritani in 1987 and would love a copy of it. Could the person who posted it tell me where I can purchase a cd or dvd of it. It is a great performance. There are hardly any really great Puritani available on dvd.
I have listened to a number of "Credeasis" and not found ONE here yet that is sung as Bellini composed it, with a high F for the tenor. Pavarotti sings an A in the fist stanza and then high C, as does Kraus and Kunde. If you can find a video of it or download the CD of the Sills Gedda Puritani, you will find Gedda singing a high C in the first stanza and then high F in the second! Also in the Vieni you will find Gedda's effortless high D.
It never ceases to amaze me how opera treats the highs and lows of humanity. I am noticing the similarities - and differences! - between this scene and the church Scene in Gounod's Faust. Nuf, said?
@flaze3 Listen to Jonas Kaufmann or James King or even Franco Corelli - all of these singers qualify as lower tenors to use your terminology. Kunde sounds much like a lyric tenor to my ear if not a Lirico-Leggiero. A lower (dramatic) tenor usually doesn't hit a high f full voice. Not to be rude, just seems to me people have unusual qualifications for high tenors based on exceptional singers.
@pavoman23 Well he just sounds quite heavy in this aria. Arguably it's his technique, but a true leggiero like Florez sounds very different singing this.
i'm not sure if only light, lyric voices can sing these roles. someone brought up brownlee. i saw him twice in rossini's armida, and i was left wishing for a heavier, more heroic voice. both he and barry banks just sounded like little boys bleating rather than heroic figures. so i do enjoy kunde's singing much more (like bruce ford, a bigger, more heroic voice) fpr these roles.
@attilatheimpaler Personally I love Brownlee in this, and I think it's a huge insult to his talent to describe him as a bleating boy. His voice is rich, vibrating and sonorous. You obviously have it in for leggieros.
@rovingdesertfox that he sounds lower than a true leggiero like Florez or Kraus (or arguably Brownlee). Anyway, there's no need to be so rude and aggressive.
@flaze3 Sorry if you thought that was rude, but next time just explain yourself more fully and maybe we could avoid this. And he doesn't sound lower, he sounds more full, more weight to his sound.
this is beyond perfect, the all package. They all did great job

No high F in this production but a great voice and I am surprised! I would love to buy this production to add to my Sills/Gedda one.

@MrAndredekock: Try searching for Lawrence Brownlee's one, here in youtube... you should be amazed with his F.

a little wobbly on the last C#, but he's quite a low tenor, I think.

@flaze3 Is that joke, a low tenor would not get this role.

@pavoman23 why not? People are miscast all the time. Especially famous singers.

@flaze3 Time to get your ears and head checked again if you think this is a "low tenor" What the hell are you thinking?
