the only real reason why agencies want super thin models is because they want the clothes to hang on them and want people to pay attention to the clothes.they don't say "because it's hot" its marketing purposes only. almost the same for plus size models . But they are looking more at where the curves are. plus size starts at size 10 and sometimes size 8. I'm not sure why ...it use to start at size 12. actually plus size models are more naturally beautiful than regular models..

Neither the plus size model, or the typical fashion model represents the ideal for women, in terms of health. Both represent extremes that are unhealthy or will potentially become unhealthy. A full grown woman should not weigh as much as a healthy teenager (i.e. the typical fashion model), and conversely a woman should not weigh as much or more than a man her height (i.e. plus size models). The HEALTHY ideal is somewhere in between.
@alphacause well... generally speaking your correct, although you do have to remember that different people will naturally have different sized-bodies and some people will naturally be bigger than others. so i dont think there's one "healthy" body weight, but there is a range and both the "regular" and plus models do tend to fall outside that range.
and btw, many of the "regular" models actually weigh much less than the average healthy teenage girl.

I'm not paying attention to the clothing because I know that the clothing runs in bigger sizes and I am a skinny tall girl 5'8 and 115 pounds. So naturally, I like to see a model that is around my size. Which a lot of models are my size so it gives me an idea of how the clothing may look on me. My personal opinion. These people also point out that society has made it the norm for models to be skinny, so naturally that plus size model thing is a distraction from the clothing.

You need to take a picture of a "normal" women you find beautiful and then look at that photo next to the pictures of these women. if she is truly a normal woman she would be the same size or bigger then the plus size models.

i'm a size seven/eight. I'm not fat. I have big hips :p. And a big frame, but my stomach is mostly flat. I have shapely legs, but they aren't fat or skinny. And i have moderate c cups. And big shoulders. I'm 5"4 and 1/2 and i am 142 pounds.

Why don't they have average models? Because the "average woman in the US is a 12/14 and a plus size model is anything over a 7. "Real women", "average women" are labeled "plus sized" by the sick modeling agencies.

Why is it that whenever fashion magazines do these "toss 'em a bone" shoots of chunky models, they're always naked or way underclothed? What clothes do they expect to sell with a picture of a naked fat chick? And hahaha at all the comments from people who invoke "health" as a reason to knock big models. Their level of overweight is still far from being a health hazard. You don't like how they look, fine, but don't pretend it has anything to do with "concern over health".
Plus sized model are very unattractive to me. When I see someone who is overweight, I usually know they lack self control. To me being big should not be rewarded, it's discusting.
@Cel3ry no you don't know that. I'm a size 16 and I am 15 and I have been eating healthy and keeping track of all my food that I ever put in my mouth since I was 12. There's nothing that I hate more then judgemental people. You don't know a person and what they have had to do so don't judge them by first glance. People automatically assume that over weight people are unhealthy. But I am probably more healthy then about 90% of the people my age. And most of them are much skinnier.

I can't tell you how many times I walk into a store with a skinny-ass model on a poster in the front, only to find that they don't actually have clothes that size. I have to shop in teen sections of stores.

I'm not paying attention to the clothing because I know that the clothing runs in bigger sizes and I am a skinny tall girl 5'8 and 115 pounds. So naturally, I like to see a model that is around my size. Which a lot of models are my size so it gives me an idea of how the clothing may look on me. My personal opinion. These people also point out that society has made it the norm for models to be skinny, so naturally that plus size model thing is a distraction from the clothing.

There's nothing that I hate more then judgemental people. You don't know a person and what they have had to do so don't judge them by first glance. People automatically assume that over weight people are unhealthy. But I am probably more healthy then about 90% of the people my age. And most of them are much skinnier.

The fashion industry =/= real life. The fashion industry is a very elite/unique indsutry for a reason. There's no room for people with average creativity/faces/bodies. It's not about who sguys want to have sex with. When will straight guys understand that? Smdh.

Why don't straight men understand that fashion magazines are not made for THEM? Oh yeah, straight men think everything is about them...
And, for that matter, why is it so hard for men to understand that women might want to look a certain way not to be sexy to men (trust me, I'm built like a plus sized model myself, never had any trouble attracting men - that's really not an issue for most women) but because thin women are viewed as cooler, smarter, more competent, etc.

Why not have models all shapes and sizes. Who gives a flip. They are gonna buy the clothes anyways. I am a plus size women. I want to see plus size women in pics so I know I can fit in the clothes!

@angellilly6081 As a skinny woman, I can tell you that they rarely have clothes the sizes of the skinny models they use in their ads. I can't tell you how many times I walk into a store with a skinny-ass model on a poster in the front, only to find that they don't actually have clothes that size. I have to shop in teen sections of stores.

@strtthshw I have the same problem. I can't find clothes being tall and plus size. The majority of people think that all plus size people are short and round. But I am tall and round. I cant wear talls, they are still short! I had the same problem when I was wearing junior teen clothing. The only places I know of that have tall jeans are maybe two for women. But, they have big and tall for men. It stinks. Everyone have problems finding clothing. But, they do use average size women for plus size
