David showed great emotions, anger or happiness and was actually one of the most believable promos in all of wrestling. Was he a flashy talker of bs like Flair or Dusty? No, but he was a good Christian rough and tumble Texan standing up for decency and his family honor and he made you believe that ...to say DVE didn't have mic skills just shows how stupid and out of touch with real professional wrestling someone really is.
Promo where done differently then. This was just before the whole cartoon era of WWF took off. David's character was the responsible older brother. He wasn't a bullfighter or a racecar driver. It wasn't a flashy role, but it was his and he did what he could with it. He made people believe that was exactly who he was.
Any chance you have a copy of the Texas Heavyweight match David talked about in this promo? My buddies and I were there and it would be great to see it again. Anybody remember when David kissed the Texas flag right before that match? I still have the flag.
Out of all the Territory, Kerry von erich was the only one to actually win the world title because his brother David was actually going to become world champion and it was kind of a consolation to Fritz to have one of his sons have the title even if it was short lived. Since Kerry had the look and a strong fanbase it was'nt a bad idea. However if thing panned out how they were intended, david would have held the belt longer with multiple reigns
@SuperflyPunt Totally agreed. I'm just getting into the Von Erichs and World Class. The thing that sticks out about David is that he never quite sounds comfortable, and it WORKS. No one is comfortable having to explain this kind of thing. He doesn't sound overproduced. He sounds like a guy trying to explain some tough stuff.
Great work opportunities David Von Erich had in store for Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin and valet Sunshine. I wouldn't mind doing those chore for him if he paid me for them and was still alive.
@litehouse6 ...don't forget he was only 24 years old...I see him getting better as the years go on...at 6'6, he had size...perhaps he turned heal and added a goatee as the years progressed...he was the leader of the family and it fell apart when he left...
David was great. He was the most intense and probably the best wrestler of all the Von Erichs and would have been NWA Champion. His death was a tragedy. RIP
two of the biggest "what ifs" in wrestling, what if magnum ta hadnt wrecked his car and what if david von erich hadnt died, kerry von erich might have had the look, but david had that charisma, and mic skill that just spelled world champion
@chriskoob I still feel that if David hadn't died, the balance of power would have gone over to Fritz and Crockett would have probably been the #2 promotion in the NWA.
@ed2kou1 Contrary to what you feel, alot of his Co-workers don't feel how you think they feel. I'm not talking about the bitter underachievers. I'm talking about those who reached the pinnacle as well as he and have no reason to be bitter.
@ed2kou1 Contrary to what you feel, alot of Flairs Co-workers don't feel how you think they feel. I'm not talking about the bitter underachievers. I'm talking about those who reached the pinnacle as well as he and have no reason to be bitter.
I still miss him. I remember when he died. I was devastated. That and the hokiness of "Hulkamania' made me lose the passion for professional wrestling.
@srhbro83 I would have loved to have seen the industry at that time allow a under 30 years of age wrestler carry the torch throughout the eighties, winning and losing the title the way flair did in his late 30,s early,s,40. i think david von erich could have been the guy to open the doors for the others like him to have title reigns with him being one of the few having multiple reigns. Barry Windham, Ted dibiase, Terry Gordy, Magnum T.A. Because of Flair the NWA never evolved in the eighties
@superbexcellence What are you talking about, Cause of Flair the Nwa never evolved in the 80's. He defended his title everywhere he went, he made wrestlers!
@ed2kou1 Forget the promoters, politics, legacies and title reigns. Mic Skills, Ring Pychology, and technical skills. Flair may be top five in all categories. Probably top ten in technical skills, but not number 1 in any of those. Greatest on the Mic Rock no question but hes way down in other two categories. Psychology Hogan, Eddie Guerrero, flair. depending on who you ask, could be anyone above the other. eddie is an underrated mic guy also but not even top twenty. Flair gets the overall nod.
@superbexcellence You make no sense, you say this and that, that Flair is and isn't. Then you say overall Flair gets the nod lol! As I've said many times over and over. It really don't matter what we think, what matters is his co workers say he was the greatest ever! I can see why they say that, and I agree with them!

Hogan, Goldberg didn't want to put people over. They just wanted to dominate. Kinda like the NWO in Wcw, they just beat everyone up. BORING

The Thing about David is he isn't a fluid talker, but he has power and conviction behind his words which gives him the edge.

Maybe I did not see enough of David but when I compared him to Kerry or Kevin he came up short.
Kerry had the body.
Kevin had the intensity
