  • Could have been me. I'm one of the lucky ones. My bottom was not so low. At least not yet. Thanks for this song. It helps put life in perspective. Blessings.

  • Hello Dan, if people were not indifferent to the homeless there would be less poverty in this land ... a small room ... blankets ... warm clothes ... a piece of bread will be given to those who have nothing...

I wish you all the best my friend :)

    Hugs, Rosy

  • @Roselyne18 You said it Rosy! We need to show a little love to those less fortunate! Thanks!

  • Dig this song, Dan! And thanks for putting my picture in the beginning......

  • @losthills lolol! Sorry Archie I didnt no that was you.haha. I hope all the less fortunate ones in this video find a a happy home!

  • .....shut me right up

  • @oldnrone lol! Thanks Guy! Hope all is going good!

  • Laughed (at the resourceful signs) and cried (so sad that so many have so little). ... reminds me of my dad (not the drinking) having rough times when he was a young man. One summer we had a chance to experience life on the road w him. Even tho' we had a home-on-wheels (old schoolbus that often broke down) we "worked" along the way picking apples, odd jobs, etc. It gave me a lot of insight into the less fortunate lives of others and made me appreciative of what I do have. Great song/message!

  • @julanenova Thanks! And lol! Some of those signs are so funny! Why lie I need a beer! that one always tickles me! Im glad things worked out with your Dad! Sometimes we need to go through the tough times to fully appreciate the good times!

  • Another great song brother!!! John Leon

  • You're an amazing songwriter, Dan. This is absolutely wonderful. Love the flatpicking. Sounds wunnerful!

  • @suuzzee5 Thanks Suze! I think the flat strumming works better than the fingerpicking version. Its fun to play it both ways though. thanks!

  • a real classic of a song - well deserving of the SSoAfOW!! all the best :o) Alan

  • @blinddrunkal Thanks you for your nice comment! Have a great day Alan!

  • The term "Skid Row" came from Seattle as you probably already know. It was where the logs were skidded down the shoot to the waterfront. All the winos would do their drinking and whatever underneath and around this massive log skid. I especially feel for the older ones who are constantly used as prey by the younger ones. Misuse of alcohol has done such incredible damage to human lives. Boy you write great songs Dan. You should get a book published with an acccompanying CD of your recordings!

  • @FiremanOly YES! That is a great story Steve! There sure are a lot of Homeless on the streets these days. Im sure you heard about John T Williams the native american who inebriated on the streets and was shot and killed by a police officer. I dont even go downtown anymore. Its just to darn scary!

  • for some reason this is the first time I have heard this even though it was done a while back Dan. I know of no one who writes better songs than you do on real life stories. As a former Seattle cop, I worked in Pioneer Square for several years and dealt with the drunks, and druggies all day long. They could be frustrating at times but I always felt sorry for them and actually made friends with many of them. I even got to see some of them kick their habit and sober up, far too few of that though.

  • @FiremanOly Thanks so much Steve! Yes I had a fingerpicking version up. I tried to play this one like John does with a pick. Thanks Steve!

  • Good to see this one back up for all to absorb...

You are the man Dan!!What a fine fine song..

  • @canajian Thanks Gerry! I had to get the old Drunkard back up on the tube where she belongs! Hope all is well my friend!

  • Great song man. I wrote something about this too called Hungry Man. Check it out.

  • @trevorm1 Hi Trevor! Thanks! I already commented on your great song but Im listening to it right now and it sounds even better! Excellent slide guitar work to!

  • Old favorite. So glad to hear it again. Faved of course. ANd copying to my computer not to be lost. THis one sparkles like diamonds, Dan.

    NAncy

  • @nllleonard Thanks so much Nancy! I think I like this flatpick version better than the fingerpicking one. Oh I LOVE your channel design! I meant to say that earlier! WOW!

  • Every now and then I'll hear a song and afterwards, without even knowin' the words,

I'll find myself hum-singin' it to myself. This one did that and it tells me without even havin' to think about it that it's a great song n' melody. Not to mention the poignant lyrics grab at yer heart in a way that make ya' wanna' just hug somebody. Hey, that's my take on it anyway. Real Nice work man, Real Nice !

  • @profwaldo WOW! Thanks for your great comment my friend! Makes it all worth while! I appreciate that!

  • Beautiful song and video well done. It is really sad seeing people going through stuff like that. Thank you for sharing this one!!! ************************s

    Dianne

  • @sjkalsc THanks Dianne! Its really is sad to see those scrounging out an excistence out on the skids!

  • Hey Dan. You know how I feel about this one. And I still remember how little I slept the night I posted this. Waiting to hear from you if you were okay with my performance. What an amazing song, from an incredible songwriter.

Take care Dan ( I'm watching the Jr. Hockey Game vs Russia right now!! Canada is winning 3 - 0 for now !! )

  • @MonkeylessJohn John when you sang this song It was a highlight in my life and it gave me the confidence to keep on writing songs. I tried to play it like you did here! Your still my hero! Go Canada! Im becoming a big hockey fan to lately!! Basketball has always been my favorite sport both for playing and watching. Thanks John!

  • @MonkeylessJohn and u, another one with lack of confidence, waiting to see if he was okay with ur performance...who would not be happy with your performance?!..always beautiful, the two of u, always beautifully talented!!!

  • @darianryder THanks kindly! I appreciate it!!

  • Dan, I have a special place in my heart for the homeless. Been out on the streets myself a time or two myself. I wasn't the sign person or the panhandler because you can find a hell of a lot in dumpsters! Box cars are a BAD choice in the winter unless a person enjoys bedding down in a freezer. No help to be had from the government unless you have an address. Catch 22. I never looked for help from the government though... dumpsters as I said! Thanks for bringing the awareness.

    Rolland

  • @rbheiss Thanks Rolland! Seems weve traveled similiar paths. I used to live in an old pickup truck with a canopy for two years then I traded that in for a 75 dodge van with tinted windows then that for an old broken down mold infested motor home which was like living in a condo. about four years total without a steady non rolling roof over my head. Dont be afraid to use the government for help! Hell everyone else is. God bless and good luck!

  • great!!!

    Rob

  • @Ottawarocket Amen Rocket! Thanks for stopping by! I always look forward to a new video from you! Hint hint!

  • u got me shivering here listening to u! was this the very first song John sang of yours!? i think!..such a very touching song it sure is! so very sad! u sure have gotten good at making these videos to go along with ur songs so very perfectly and sure do enhance the meaning behind the words!beautifully written, sung and played by u ! its a sad sad situation ! but so wonderful to hear this again!

  • @justcallmethelma Thanks Kathy! I tried to play this like John does! John was the first one to sing one of my songs! That kind of gave me some confidence for better or worse.lol

  • @coolanddark i am so glad he gave u confidence to continue on buddy! and i hope u never doubt yourself again, u got what it takes........u really do, do u think i would encourage u to get up on a stage and make a fool of urself? nooooooo, never, and i pray someday we give u the confidence to do that...even if just once..but i suspect if u did once, the crowd would insist u come again!!! keep writting, keep performing, never ever stop!! u got it! u really got it!!
