I hate to admit that I discovered this remarkable piece of music when I first watched A Clockwork Orange. Years and years ago....now, when asked about my 'island collection' of music (you know, if you're stranded on an island, what one bit of music, book, etc would you take with)... this is the music. NOTHING compares. Nothing. (Scheherazade runs a close second.....)

The opening alone tears your soul out from the bottom and bleeds out every painful memory then by the time the ode to joy comes around you are filled up again with exhilarating beauty and carried high up into exhaled paradise of the heavens. How obscene, how lovely and how no other piece of music will ever compare.

The only problem... The ONLY problem I'm having... (and really, it's not a huge one...) Is that this gorgeous work has clear 'pieces' (movements.?.) where it could have been broken. But instead, it breaks in the middle of the movements.

...disturbs the flow just a bit.

Then again, that's what playlists are for ;-)
