  • this my jam a real bumper!!

  • the reason great music like this has died, because today's music is all about having kids out of wed lock and getting drunk. teenager today don't nothing about commitment because you got all these stupid toay singers are singing about an they suck. Plus rap sucks throw that in the mix.

  • @davewc39 but some of us teenagers aren't like that, i know i'm not

MIRIAM ALISA PRICE - CLASS OF '85 SHHS

  • Does 'ROMANCE' like this even still exist in today's younger society??? Maybe that's why the music today sucks because romance like what's portrayed in this song has died......

  • This is the Knock! Grew up to this in the 80's in FRESNO CA. Where everyone hung out, Blacks, Whites, Mexicans, we all partied to this together and lived amongst each other and enjoyed this music together. Great memories!! Mama had good taste in music and she raised her babies on this!!!!

  • I feel you shinharu.

  • i wish the 80's would come bk 2. that was the best decade. The videos went with the song. Not women half naked, rims, and cars which has nothing to do with the video

  • baby making music.

  • Memories of my youth, this is a class, song, just brilliant , it took me right back to my bachelor days, Brilliant.

  • Mr. MystroMusicMan! You are absolutly right we you said that today's R&B has "no production value".

  • Agree or disagree wit me; Don't Say No 2nite is sort of a follow-up 2 1984's Gotta Get U home 2nite. Both of these songs belong 2 Eugene Wilde.

  • you could almost say it was "Gotta Get You Home Tonight" Part II. The tempo was slowed down and the chord progression is similar. Still such a beautiful song. I wish I'd hear something this beautiful today! lol

  • Me 2, MystroMusicMan.

  • this groove was so hot...I remember hearing it as a child and when I turned like 17 I ordered Eugene Wilde greatest hits off the internet and it was like hip hop to me cuz I played it like all the other cd's I had,its a real classic.

  • Dang, I lost my cherri to this song, dude played this cassett in his car, singing this all the way to the hotel. Great memories

  • "dude" huh??

That was such a good memory of you having your umm.. 'first time'. The guy's name just slips the mind! LOL!! He did have great taste in music though. :)

  • I just to love that song and the 80's. The 80's music was HOT!

We need more of that now!... real musicians back then.

  • ''oh my god!!! this is tha SHIT FO SHO !!!

  • remember thisall too well. fresh out of high school in '85 and swear i was in love. still a nice song. wish i could find best of eugene wild with all his songs!!!!!!!

  • This is a true classic and one of my favorites. I wish Eugene Wilde was still making music cause this song is still a hit.

  • they dont make music like this anymore.

  • They couldn't make music like this these days if they tried! lol

  • @MystroMusicMan No they couldn't and the reason why is because LOVE is missing from so many young men/women today; instead they've replaced it with SEX/LUST which equates to BULLSHIT for R&B today...

    LOVE old school FOREVER!!

  • 1lightqt, you have a point. But remember, Marvin Gaye sung about sex and lust on "Sexual Healing" and "Let's Get It On". But Gaye didn't use street slang and profanity to ask his lady to do the deed. Look at production quality, he used a drum machine on "..Healing", like Eugene Wilde on "Don't Say No.." and "Gotta Get You Home..", and It still sounds like music. Today's R&B not only lacks imagination lyrically, but no production value either. Especially what's on radio!

  • @MystroMusicMan, yes you're right about Marvin with his sexual lust in "Sexual Healing" and "Let's Get It On" and I appreciate your response. The songs back in the day were more "subtle" if you will without being VULGAR. For example, in the song, "Love Won't Let Me Wait", a woman was clearly moaning at the end of the song, which created an erotic effect, yet it was still tasteful. As you said above, today's R&B LACKS in so many areas and that's why I don't listen to mainstream radio anymore.

  • @1liughtqt. Exactly.. "subtle" was the key. Now, so-called 'artists' are trying to make a porno into an R&B song! I consider R. Kelly a great artist but HE went from "Slow Dance" and "Dedicated" to "Feelin On Yo Booty" and now, "Number One" and even using autotune when he clearly doesn't need it or the vulgar overtones of his records. It's sad when the world can overlook the newest Stevie Wonder record for T-Pain one.

    Sickening.

  • @MystroMusicMan i totally agree

  • @MystroMusicMan You are aware that Eugene Wilde, while extremely talented, was part of the R&B meat grinder that black music was put through in the early 80's resulting in the Billy Oceans, Ray Parker, Jr's, Champaigns, Mtumes, and the Pointer Sisters who became too dependent on pop sounds to keep the bills paid.

    It is what it is.

  • @saj8 Well, it depends on what you mean by "pop sounds". Pop is just simpler, lighter, watered-down, if you will Black music. whether it's Rock, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Rythm & Blues, or Rap. The groups you named were purely R&B. Mtume are respected music producers. They recorded their share of lighter tunes but it's not to say what market it was intended for. Oh they weren't copying and pasting loops, and using pitch-correction software to make a non-talent sound ok.

    It was still TALENT involved.

  • @MystroMusicMan But at the same time Mtume was basically trend hopping during the early 80s. Reggie Lucas was the one who really made that sound work when he was in the group and he was the better producer.

I think our main problem is that we as music fans who grew up on the music from the 70s and 80s are spoiled to the point that we want everything given to us on a silver platter or else it doesn't exist.

  • @saj8 Not sure if I could say they were following trends because their sound in itself was imitated. Not to mention, sampled by many.

I grew up in the 90's, that's my favorite decade. I guess I am spoiled. I'd rather hear "Don't Say No Tonight" in stead of a computer programmer pitching me "AutoTune Me Tonight" since the person on vocals is not a singer. Just bring back Milli Vanilli if that's the case. At least those were still songs by actual singers. So yep, that stuff doesn't exist.

  • @MystroMusicMan I'm not even talking about a "level-of-quality" perspective... cause if you want to be real about it, Mtume's best days were a long time ago. What I'm saying is, even that great classic music is only great ONCE. Sometimes people get caught up in that ONE album or how somebody sung or rapped that ONE year and that's the only way they EVER wanna hear that artist make music. Nobody has ever made the same exact record twice and had similar results.

  • @saj8 I wasn't talking about quality per se. For me personally, the best of the Mtume brand is "Juicy" as many will say also. But I'm just talking about their impact in general. And I know things change. From the 60s to the 70s, the 80's through the 90's. I'm not saying (like) we should have "New Jack Swing" for ever because I would be long since tired of hearing it. But I'm not talking about (for example) Eugene Wilde doing another "Don't Say No (Tonight)" because that would make no sense..

  • @MystroMusicMan And as a person who grew up during the 80s, I've seen my fair share of garbage.People always want to bring up Thriller, Purple Rain, Rock Me Tonight, Luther Vandross' Excellent 5 Album run, Rapture, Back In Black, Raising Hell, License to Ill, Control, Heresay, The SOS Band ,and the rise of New Jack Swing, but didn't the 80s also bring us electrofunk and the numerous Prince clones?

There was good music in that decade, but for every good song, we had our share of garbage.

  • @saj8 ....I'm not talking about any albums, songs, etc.. Yes, every era has had its share of garbage but at least you knew despite you not liking someone's song, one thing they did have.. T A L E N T.

I'm talking about if a singer can sing. A instrumentalist can play. Not how good you think the song is neccessarily. The last four decades at least had that. No clicking a mouse and turning someone who couldn't sing on stage into a pseudo star.

  • @MystroMusicMan Bottom line is, nobody needs to "go back" to anything. If a artist makes a weak new album, he might need to get back on-point and come with a better joint next time. That doesn't necessarily mean he or she needs to start bringing back some vibe from over four decades ago just so they can come out with a good album. You can do some good NEW material and make better music. It doesn't always have to be about recreating what's already been done.

  • @saj8 None of that even remotely had to do with my last post. Totally missed it and I made it a point to stress what I am NOT talking about yet, you still wasted two paragraphs on it.

    Read the posts again.

  • @MystroMusicMan And yeah, there's artists who may have maintained similar themes and similar direction, but they still made it a point to UPDATE their sound. You can look at all the artists who got stuck on one formula and slid down the totem pole. And sometimes it wasn't even because the music wasn't good, but moreso because people had already heard that music the first time and thought it was incredible. They didn't need to hear it again.

  • @saj8 Again, talking about what I said that I WASN'T talking about. Yet, you're talking about it again. Not even close. I'll have to copy and paste my posts I guess untill you can in some way address what's been repeatedly stressed. Catch up.

  • @MystroMusicMan I haven't even gotten started on the talent part. Yes, there is a overabundance of a lack of talent with the T-Pains, the Rhiannas, and the Trey Songz of the industry. However, as I stressed earlier, R&B does not need to go back to any old sounds. It needs new sounds, new styles, and new artists with talent. When that happens, R&B can bounce back. It's not gonna happen with artists rehashing music which was already done(i.e. neo-soul).

    It all adds up.

  • @saj8 Well, This post I made before sums it up:

"...I'd rather hear "Don't Say No Tonight" in stead of a computer programmer pitching me "AutoTune Me Tonight" since the person on vocals is not a singer. Just bring back Milli Vanilli if that's the case. At least those were still songs by actual singers"

THAT is my repeated point. Nothing about "going back" nothing about a style like "Neo Soul" because AutoTune is not a style. Rhianna and Trey Songz DO have talent, they SING themselves, not AT.

  • @saj8cant we all just get along like the dude in the album cover isnt that dude rodney king oops my bad

  • @MystroMusicMan I completely agree.

  • @marlatinson2001 Soulja Boy, that's an odd topic. I mean, I don't hate him for doing what he feels is right for him and being successful at it. After all, it's the public's fault for buying that garbage ghetto-macarena-superman dance. But I just feel that SB is just generic. Homemade see-n-say musician turned immature multi-millionaire!

  • @MystroMusicMan You are couldnt be more right. Alot of music has gotten so stupid, until i dont even like the remakes or the samples. I dislike Soulja Boy so much I loose focus when I hear his foolishness, because its not music.

  • @MystroMusicMan

    I second that!

  • I really like this song. In fact I downloaded it a few weeks ago.
