  • I'm really surprised you like the HD version

  • @Doom2Guy Did you have annotations on? Unfortunately, Youtube doesn't let you update existing videos, so some information that came to light after I posted this had to be amended with an annotation. :\

  • A comparism between HD and SD... with no Video-option for 720p... very useful :)

  • I bet MANy people said this already, but there is no WiiWare version. Which sucks.

  • Come on, the HD version wasn't bad at all. People don't seem to realize that it wasn't trying to be the special edition, it was trying to be nostalgic. Sure, the extra content and those voice clips would have been nice, but it's still a great game, and the HD version gives the people who haven't played it before a chance to do so.

P.S. The Advance version looks worse than the GBA conversion of Sonic the Hedgehog.

  • @MamaLuigiBarrelRoll There are better ways to invoke nostalgia than this.

  • @BlazeHedgehog Fine, if you hate the HD version, I really don't care.

  • My first experience of earthworm jim was with the Sega CD version. Then I got Earthworm Jim HD. I was disappointed by the lack of big bruty, and how different the game felt, but more than anything else, I was disappointed that Jim didn't go "Look they're meatballs!" at the beginning of Andy Asteroids.

  • i like the HD 1 better evrey other ver. and plz KEEP THE GAMEBOY VER. AWAY FROM ME!!!!

  • Sega CD/PC ver. > Megadrive ver. > Snes ver. >>>>>>>>>> Bullshit >>>>>> GBA

In my opinión the HD version is really bad, it looks like a mediocre flash game, it's acceptable because of the animation but they took the essence of the graphics and a big part of the carism of the game, it looks very plastic, like a flash game... It's better to run the segaCD version with kega fusion emulator with some good render plugin. Also I like a lot more the music from the Sega CD version.

  • SEGA CD is the best one

  • Man, the lack of animation in the GBA version is shameful. And the background tiles are badly placed, too.

  • Awesome video! I just bought the HD remake on the PSN for $2.99. What a steal! I'd still like to get my hands on the Sega CD and Saturn games though.

  • Why did everything on GBA look like shit?

  • and where is the snes one, because it looks clearly different.

  • @Tailslol Not really that much different from the Genesis/PC version, in all honesty.

  • @BlazeHedgehog clearly different sound,1 more layer as background, different color palette and resolution, ships levels different,it has more differences than the genesis/megadrive vs mega/sega CD you included in your video...

  • @Tailslol You do realize the Sega CD version has literally twice as many levels, right? Even the first level is more than twice as long on the Sega CD. I just didn't show it as much in this video because I was pressed for time. The SNES differences are really pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things.

  • @BlazeHedgehog yea but replace snes from genesis was maybie more acurate than include a handheld version.(or compare beetween them gameboy versions and gamegear with gba.)

  • @Tailslol This was back when Youtube had an 11 minute time limit. This video is exactly 11 minutes. I showed what I had time to show and picked the versions I felt were the most different from each other.

  • According to the gameplay I've seen, the GBA version is a piece of fucking shit.

  • @TheStolken I have it.

I like the music, but yeah, pieces of the level are missing as it turns out, no indication that you were harming the bosses, and worst: No saving.

I never got further than Snot a Problem.

Might get the HD version for the PS3 or my Windows Phone

  • @TheStolken true that

  • You forgot the SNES version.

GBA is a shitty version, you should've used a better one.

Super Nintendo's music tracks are much smoother and refined compared to Genesis's and the GBA's

  • i love how gritty and rough the pc version is. and how much better the music is.

  • u ment dsiware you got it messed up

  • God, the GBA port is fucking abysmal. It's even worse than I remember it being when it played it ages ago.

How does a graphics intensive game like Gunstar Super Heroes run perfectly on the GBA, yet Earthworm Jim, a game that ran perfectly on the Genesis and SNES, is a choppy, glitchy, mangled piece of shit? It just defies all logic.

  • I can't understand why the GBA version is so terrible. The GBA had the power of the SNES. And the SNES version one of the best ones.

The GBA has a faster CPU, more RAM, and higher cart capacities. I don't understand why it's so damn slow, choppy, and terrible.

  • Do you know if Earthworm Jim on Steam has EWJSE content?

  • @flashn00b Reading up on the matter, Earthworm Jim on Steam is the "Whole Can O' Worms" version of the game, which was packaged with EWJ2 PC and is apparently just a straight port of the Genesis version. Which is weird, because the original PC port of EWJ was the "Special Edition" with beautiful high color graphics (the best version of the game, really). I guess it has problems running on current hardware, though, but the "Can O' Worms" version doesn't.

  • It's not really fair to compare the Xbox port to the Genesis, DOS and GBA versions. But the GBA version sucks anyways :D

  • Sega Genesis

    Sega CD

    Super Nintendo

    Sega Saturn

those versions are awesome! except HD looks nicer but it messes up the style it had :(

  • @TheSweetKnight There wasn't a Saturn version of Earthworm Jim.

  • I noticed that Sega CD SE version holds up very well considering and the GBA version isn't too shabby either. I first played this game on the Sega Genesis and loved it, classic game. The HD version looks great, glad to see that a great game has made a comeback of sorts.

  • @madden8021 The trailer Ubisoft put out for EWJHD totally has the WiiWare logo at the end of it, so don't blame me.

  • IMO i like it even and i played the old ones, i agree that the special edition version is better (because of the soundtrack and the especial endings), but this version has a lot of good thing of its own

-the new bonus levels are great and really fit with the game (personally i prefer this ones than the ones in the special edition, i never liked Big Bruty)

    - has the best gameplay of all the version

-the ost even thought inferior to the special edition is still great and they added boss themes

  • Guys Jim was voiced in this game by Doug Tennapel(creator of Jim and the one who voice him originally) its just that he re-recorded the lines and he also added new ones, mostly because the original couldn't make it to the hd treatment, of course even thought he is the same person who voiced Jim years ago, he didn't recorded the lines in the exact same manner as the original (personally i have a theory that Doug did this intentionally to make HD Jim sound like the cartoon version of Jim)

  • I dont think anyone gives a F, but shouldnt you take the limitations of the platform in mind when choosing the 'best' version of this game? To me it seems the Mega CD version is by far the best, if you know the limitations of this machine. The HD version looks better but thats what you'd expect after 20 years, right? The original version had a much bigger impact anyway.

  • one person never played earthworm jim!

  • Why does everyone hate the HD remake? I thought it was fine. Although I agree Jims voice is pretty bad on here, And Andy Asteroids was horrible. The rest was fine to me. Not better than, But good enough.

  • @UltimateGamer504 Because the new stuff is uniformly terrible. A lot of the humor is "LOL!!!! ISN'T THIS RANDOM AND WACKY!?!?!", when Doug TenNaple's original designs were way more subtle. Some of that poor humor even seeps back in to the main game, spoiling it a little bit. Plus, Gameloft left out TONS of bonus content from Earthworm Jim Special Edition - they only adapted bits and pieces, which doesn't make any sense.

  • @BlazeHedgehog call me a retard, a dipshit, call me anything you want, but i like the HD remake

  • @SparksterG40 Well, that's fine, I guess. The HD remake isn't, like, garbage or anything. I wouldn't be offended if somebody liked it. It was just kind of "ehhhhh".

  • @BlazeHedgehog Right, but they fixed the difficulty, so Through the Tubes isn't the worst-designed, hellspawn from Satan himself level it is in the original.

  • personally, i like his voice from earthworm jim 3d the best

  • I like them all equally...Graphics don't matter to me. Earthworm Jim is my favorite game ever since the Super Nintendo and Sega days...taking a break from the Mortal Kombat online just to play this game.

My friends think I'm crazy...oh well! I love the classics :)

  • why were all GBA ports have-assed? the damn thing is 32-bit, it should run this no problem

  • Wow! Very interesting, informative and well-edited comparison of all four ports of this game! I love how you added a "Pros and Cons" feature at the end to determine which port is best.

And I agree that Earthworm Jim HD is definitely the best port for first-time players of this game. Thank you for making this video.

  • Genesis = excelent

    PC, Sega CD = outstanding

Xbox, PSN, wii ware = decent

    GBA = Shit

  • IMO GBA sucks big floppy donkey dick.

  • where is the snes version?better than the genesis thats for sure

  • Holy Shit was Jazz Jackrabbit 2 inspired by this even the levels seem outright copies O_O!

  • Vectorman should be made in HD that'd be awesome!

  • SEGA GENESIS RULES!!!! Best Graphics...i know that EWJ its in HD...but....seriously, original graphics are better....its like the "New Super Mario" for Wii and Ds....

  • Does anyone know if there are plans for a HD remake of Earthworm Jim 2?

  • @Scarlet1992Kille To be honest, I hope not. EWJ2 wasn't very good. It was less a shooter/platformer and more like a collection of half-baked minigames. :\

  • @BlazeHedgehog After playing the game for an half hour I have agreed that the game is more like a game with stages being like mini-game instead of platforming. One stage I really hate is the flying king.

  • from 4:26 to the time he finally connected was so brutal to watch DUDE RUN INTO IT have you ever played b4 GOD!!!

  • "A'hm nood!!" One of the more funnier lines in this game yet was only in the Sega CD/PC version.

  • Sorry GameBoy but..no one likes you.

  • Oh....Käsekuchen!!!

  • I hate the GBA port SOOOO much

  • i had this game for pc a long time ago. ahh the memories.

  • haha how come the new version doesn't say WILD MA!!

  • haahaaaaaaa (at 4:00) overkill thats what i liked about this game LOL

  • I like the Sega CD version better the genesis and HD version well there OK.

  • @SegaNintendoGuy64 dude cd used cheap ass audio genesis didnt and thats what you exspect from a higher qulity system sega genesis was one of the best ones of the seris

  • All this time I thought he said, "Wham! Uh..." Huh... Guess it is, "PLASMA!" :I

  • hey you forgot the dsi ware version!

  • you didnt compare the dsiware version :O

  • SNES is the best version besides HD, you should have used that one in the comparison too.

  • @KeithPsychosis In your opinion. Personally, I find the music in the SNES version (and GBA by extension) sounds like one of those barking dog christmas songs.

  • @katsujinken10 Well I only ever played the SNES and HD ones so I'm just used to the SNES one the most. Usually though, if there's a game that's on both Genesis and SNES, the SNES version is superior in every way. I think there are a few exceptions though (Aladdin).

  • @KeithPsychosis Again that's just your opinion. I personally don't like the SNES audio chipset. It's like an uncanny valley to my ears. You know how the CGI gets to looking real without achieving it the less people like it? It's like that with the SNES audio chipset. Rather than being awesome & synthy sounding like other game consoles (particularly the TG-16) It just sounds like cheesy midi orchestra that'd be used on low budget TV.

  • @katsujinken10 That's what Sega Genesis is like to me. Like games that are supposed to sound like electric guitar (Battletoads) actually do on the SNES but on the Sega Genesis, they sound like midi. I cant compare SNES to any other 16-bit consoles though so...

  • @KeithPsychosis Exactly though, the SNES doesn't sound enough like a guitar to really sound like a guitar or enough not like a guitar to just be synth. A good way to hear the difference is Rebel Leader for Gamecube, I can clearly hear which songs were recorded by live orchestra from the original movies & which are just being churned out by a computer to add extra compositions & it just sounds wrong to me.

  • @katsujinken10 er Rogue :Leader

  • @KeithPsychosis I agree, the MIDI Genesis cliche electronic sound is very unappealing to me. I much prefer the more atmospheric sound of the SNES audio chipset

  • Comment removed

  • ....is that...a time limit on the Andy Asteroids stage?

  • @teckwerks I think it's just because I recorded footage primarily from the demo. The demo ends at Andy Asteroids and it doesn't let you finish it.

  • @BlazeHedgehog ...oh. Well that blows. :<

  • god the gba version looks HORRIBLE

  • god damn it! ewj hd sucks |:, i love the Genesis♥

  • In fact, the GBA version sounds like a Genesis game! That's sad, considering that the Genesis version sounds better.

  • GBA version is disappointing in music.

  • I noticed the voicing in the HD version sounded off, and some funnier things wern't said

"I win!" "This doesn't make me a loser does it?" "I'm nude" "Thorn!"

plus I feel it was missing a few levels and a weapon (the missles)

  • 1) GBA's Jim is pooping? 2) GBA's Jim cant see the platforms? 3) HD version have really worst voice acting, that ruins picture. 4) HD version of "Plasma" sound like "Klizma" - clysis on russian. 5) GBA synthesator sound like overloaded nes. 6) No, GBA synthesator sound like trip. 7) GBA version is a trip. 8) HD version have a hint. Newfags are such a noobs. 9) CD had a more Nuuuude levels. 10) Genesis version Is God 11) CD version is great 12) HD version is incomplete. 13) GBA version is a shit.
  • The game has been developed by Shiny Entertainment in the 90's. It's a division belonging to Interplay.

The game maker is David Perry

Game Loft just put it in HD.

  • And GBA is the Loser and The Genesis Is the winner while xbox Live looks good but sounds like a little kid

I liked this video. Could you include The Snes version

  • GBA: Cheap, cheap, cheap...

Genesis: The BG isn't as good, but at least the gameplay is great...

PC: Looks like the SNES, but has the Sega CD music... and the Sega CD levels.

XBox: They should have stuck with the ORIGINAL sounds, dangit! The music is closer to the SNES version.

  • Good video :)

  • i have sega version and hd version

  • sooo wheres the snes version? that was the best of the 16 bit era, easily beat the genesis version

  • Hd version is for losers, there's hints for everything, to play the original Genesis version you need to have balls of steel, but on the hd version there's neon arrows showing the way, hints on how to beat the boss, hints for this, hints for that, or nowadays people aren't as badass as old school people were, or the hd version is really intended to be played by wussies.

  • @clawdeath666 Agree. These arrows pissed me off. I mean, the game wasn't cryptic already, why add arrows? What, target demographic for HD version is retarded kids?

  • @clawdeath666 then set it to original...

  • Wow. It's pretty amazing how much better the HD is from, say, the GBA.

...Goddamn, the GBA port looks terrible.

  • LOL thumbs UP if you had fun and laughed when playing this game !

  • I think the colouring scheme of the gba port was based on the SNES version just so you know.

  • My favourite is the PC sega CD... More levels, nice animations...

The HD version is not bad, But too many Artificial FX for a game that is Suposed to be Cartoonish

  • the fridge animation in HD isnt that good

  • the gba port is awful

  • Of course, I remember that PSX/Saturn has only version of 2nd part of the game. But then I say best is Special Edition for its endings and Big Bruty extra level.

  • Strange choice: where's SNES and PSX/Saturn (I know two last are the same with PC version). I think best version is for Saturn. I've finished it yesterday in 10th or 20th time.

  • mmm, gba version sucks it should be snes version here...

  • Man, I wish Wiiware should be including for HD, but not. I refuse to download Genesis Version on my Wii Virtual Console service.

  • You know, it's weird, but I think the Genesis version still looks the best, even compared to the HD version. Sure it sounds bad, but just the way the gun effects look better really gets my attention.

  • lol at the moosehead. :D

  • I think the XBLA/PSN version is a great remake! Also the GBA version looks crap.

  • I think the XBLA/PSN version is a great remake, also the GBA version looks crappy.

  • I just noticed, you wrote Earthworm HD is for WiiWare. Which isn't true. The Wii didn't get the remake. It only got the Genesis version for Virtual Console.

  • @Meganeo5 I wrote WiiWare because, as I recall, one of the trailers for EWJHD had the WiiWare logo on it.

  • I like the SNES version and the 360, but I hate that the 360's animations play hyper fast.

  • Eugh... what an horrible, unappealing mess the Gameboy version was!

  • tommy tallarico is probably pissed right now that the pc and sega cd versions of his music weren't reused for the HD version... i would be too

  • The Sega CD and PC version is the best, Genesis version is second best, SNES version is third best, HD is worst and GBA version is poor joke.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar agreed all the way

  • @ResurrectedTemplar Certainly the pc version is the best. Personal critique: the only thing good about the HD version is its graphics, but the rest, have changed much the environment, the game now hasn't the same fun features that characterizes "Jim",.. his personality is not the good original(the good funny) Jim is not funny in HD lol. No offense, but I call "that" losing off inspiration, as well as with what happened to the simpsons, sponge bob, and another TV things today.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar WTF? HD was the best version of all!

  • @omghom WTF? HD sucked ass! The graphics are ugly drawn, and those that aren't were stolen (confirmed by Gameloft, they apologized), the music sucks because it's based on SNES version's music, new characters suck (even Doug TenNapel, the man who created EWJ said they sucked), the levels are full of those idiotic arrows and there are hints on how to beat the boss before every boss fight (do they think that players are retarded or what?) which destroys the purpose of boss fight. HD sucks.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar But the graphics are waaaay better dude, and I know that gameplay is what matters but still... I wish they had designed new levels or at least something new, not just the same old game...

  • @omghom How can they be "waaay" better when I just said that they are ugly drawn? And besides HD has light blue and pink overdose. Looks too "glamour-ish".

New levels? No freaking way. It's supposed to be a remake.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar Didn't expect such a quick response. Anyways, I don't see the "ugly" draw graphics but I agree with the blue and pink overdose. What about the sound effects? Some of them were updated/enhanced don't you think? And widescreen support is appreciated aswell...

  • @omghom Sound effects? Gun sounds terribly underpowered, crow sound is lame and Jim's voice is worst of all. And I don't understand why did they record new soundtrack instead of enhancing the original ones: Jim was voiced by Doug TenNapel, after all.

But yeah, widescreen support is the only good thing about this remake.

And about ugliness - just make some screenshots and then close up Jim's face and crows. Then do the same with the original. Feel the difference.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar Well, IT IS a remake after all. Adding a new soundtrack would've been a bad choice. Just look at Ocarina of Time 3D: Updated graphics, but soundtrack and sound effects are all the same. Why? Because fans of the game can get sensitive with changes. A good remake has to be loyal with the original game.

  • @omghom I was actually complaining about NOT leaving music and sound effects all the same.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar Oh, my bad. Let's cut to the chase then, what is the best version of the game in your opinion and why?

  • @omghom As I said earlier, Sega CD\Windows 95 version. The graphics are superb, with some extra-neat animation, the CD-quality music is better than ever and there are extra levels compared to previous (Genesis and SNES) versions. The difference is that those extra levels were made by people who made the original game, so they knew what they were doing.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar It makes sense since computers back then were more powerful and more capable than home consoles, in this case the SNES.

  • @omghom And they still are, nowadays.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar But computers weren't made for games. I mean, they're more powerful than the current generation of consoles BUT only if you build a high-end computer. Retail PC's won't give you that much power. Also, computers aren't that social. Steam is trying to fix that though...

  • I hated what they did to the sound effects in What the Heck.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar I prefer the HD version, it was the first version I played.

  • @gothikgamer Too bad.

  • WHY NOT THE SNES BHEVHFEBEHRROURIER -RAGERAGERAGE.- Lol, jk.

Just a curious question, any port you like more then the other? Have only played the SNES ports of EJ1 and downloaded the HD version, and I love the HD version so fucking much. Lol.

Hope there'll be an Earthworm 2 HD. /:

  • @SharinganLust I think my favorite is the PC version. It's missing a few effects from the SNES version, but is otherwise awesome.

  • earthworm belmont xD the worm killer xD

  • I could make this for PC, because i know how to open package files of this game..

    WHOS WITH ME?

  • @CycerMan Do it, man! I'm with ya.

  • im jus happy they have this on ps network cuz i never had the game and i loved it and now its on hd and on my ps3

  • I have the Genesis version of Earth Worm Jim now. I grew up playing the SNES version. Now that this game is on the PSN and XBLA i think it is great. The fact that the game is now in HD is a cool concept. I am going to purchase this off the PSN since it is a classic kick ass game.

  • the GBA version is the best xD

  • gba version make me throw away!

  • Here in ps3

  • @Romuluzz never understood people who liked the genesis version, it was a good console but it had an awful sound chip

  • LOL LOL LOL " EWJ fanatics will no doubt argue over ultin the end of time " LOL LOL

  • NOTHING like SNES version...all the others has nie graphics but not the original sound...there is no " WAY COOL " or " CONTING " instead of saying continue... i hate this, i have earthworm jim for Ipod n Ps3, n both are below snes versions..

  • shit! i didnt get the earthworm jim games when i was a kid or in all my life but atleast i watch the cartoon

  • the music at 4:10 sounds like radiohead

  • SNES version FTW. Was not even included in this, basicly the sega version but better quality samples.

  • GROOVIE!

  • the gameboy advance version is ok i have it and in cause anyone else does if you want to skip levels pause the game and press right, R, B, A, L, L, A, R

  • The PC version has the best voice acting and music in my opinion.

  • Dear lord, what did they do in the new version? I mean yeah, GB's the worst, no contest, but the HD version...it just lacks the feel and atmosphere of how Jim's supposed to be. And the redone voices...what the hell?

  • Just finished the hd version. It's been so long since I played the original for super nintendo, I thought the graphics for it looked the same as the genesis. But I digress, who cares which one was the better looking, it was an amazing game.

  • lol oh god the gba one is bad. genesis shall forever be the best. honestly not liking the new sound and visuals of HD... however 4player co op sounds like something i cannot pass-up

  • Cant see the last part cause your subtitle is in the way

  • @ranpo677 ...that's intentional, genius. Did you read the annotation at all?

  • Best music goes to the Sega CD version, the HD soundtrack is taken from the iPhone version. best voice of EWJ goes to every system except the HD version and the GBA

  • i played the ewj hd demo on xbl today, thought it was excellent, both picture and sound

  • The Voice Of jYM in xbox 360 sucks

  • Guys is this worth the $10 or whatever this cost?

How long is this and does it have trophy support? thanks! :)

  • @metalheadude6 Indeed. It is worth $10. Also, how long? Well, the same as Earthworm Jim except there are Bonus Levels to play. And yes it supports Trophies, it was shown on Video. Even Local/Online Multiplayer is even worth the Purchase of this game, not to mention, HD.

  • I certainly prefer the CD-based version audio track.

  • lol'd @ GBA version
