  • @DeathMetalDeth If you care to actually read Atlas Shrugged, you will discover that Rand fully recognizes people's voluntary interactions as friends and trading partners, as she recognizes our need to utilize natural resources to sustain our lives. You simply misunderstand what she means by independence.

  • Rand is right and it becomes more apparent everyday !

  • "The only solution would be for him to work out their conflict." Right, he would have to compromise his values or "soul" as Diana put it to continue the pursuit of what he enjoys. I think you put it more elegantly, though.

  • Since Stadler wouldn't have his chosen research funded by the private sector anyway, isn't the point moot? There was never a real chance to pursue the work he enjoyed and excelled at with either private or public dollars, so selling out to one of them was the only viable way to remain in the research field.

But that's a part of the point that only follows from his conflicting premises. The only solution would be for him to work out their conflict. But then that's not what his role in the novel was intended to show.

  • Great video.
