  • This game looks really bad ass. Maybe the SMS wasn't such a bad system after all.

  • @romajo It has very cool games, its hard to find them because of the little popularity it haves

  • I remember having this game and found a glitch. I cant recall how it goes, but you had to die on the first stage and recollect a power up so that you total number goes over 999. Now it wont go down at all and you have unlimited ammo trough the game.

Cant recall how it was done exactly

  • @DeviantDragonFurry It works on every place, I made it work on stage 2,3,4,5

  • @ryumishima44 Ah very cool. As I said, can't remember how one did it. It have been many years since I had that game. Master System was pretty new when I got it and just got a MS again a few years back.

  • The very first game I played in all my life. And the game that made me a ninja otaku.

  • Tecmo should remake this game and call it...

    *Drum roll*

    NINJA GAIDEN IV.

  • SMS has better graphical abilities than the NES. However I do find that the developers of the NES version seemed to have put more time in the graphics. The backgrounds in the NES version seem to have more detail. In this particular video I like the look of the first level but in the others levels I find the backgrounds pretty generic.

  • This game only have nice graphics, the music sucks

  • I had an SMS as a kid and I never knew that Ninja Gaiden came out for it until recently! It looks so much more superior to the NES version that it's mind blowing! The visuals are almost 16 bit quality! It could honestly pass for a Genesis game even!

  • FUCKING BIRDS! even in the sega version they are RUTHLESS

  • i dont know which has better sound, Master System, NES, or the PC Engine/Turbografx16?

  • The nes version was more challenging. However, this one had better graphics. With the exception of the 2nd level music, of the master system version, the music was as good as the nes version. It was simply different from the nes version.Ohh and the 1st level music on the master system version was amazing.I had a cousin who had a nes, and even him said the master system version was slightly better. The nes library was much better than the master system. You don't need to complaint about this game.

  • Wow this game plays at a fast speed / animation. I feel like most master system games played at a laggy pace even begin a SEGa MS fan myself. i wish Master system had more games that played at this pace at the time. As mentioned Sega master system was superior to NES but i feel like it never shined as much as it could have .

  • Ah yes. I remember playing this when I was 8, and getting really frustrated over never being able to even REACH the boss on the first level!

    good times.

  • Sega Master System was superior to the NES technically. But Sega had horrible marketing strategies.

  • the music in it is soo sick i couldnt get of this game as a kid!

  • 0:03 Wow! Ninjya Gaiden is great! XD

  • What a game i paid 35 pound when it came out when i was 16 years old back in the day 1990 something and i played it 10000000000000 times over then the megadrive came out hello Shinobi :)

  • @sisterklon no i played sega master's, pc engine, shadow warriors on PAL to the ninja gaiden nes and the nes is still more challenging.

  • The nes was more challenging.

  • @vandoom Because sticking to the wall is harder than bouncing off them?

  • The SMS game is superior to the NES game in terms of both graphics and gameplay mechanics.

Not only did it look better, but its gameplay mechanics were more refined and closer to the later 3D games, e.g. while the NES game had you sticking onto walls, the SMS game had you bouncing from wall to wall, like the later 3D games.

Unfortunately, the SMS game was only released in PAL regions (where SMS ruled), so both the Japs and Americans missed out on the best 8-bit Ninja Gaiden game.

  • I apologize, i now see my mistake after seeing this video for a 2nd time. I was biased toward NES, so that influenced my rash decision. I realize that this game beat nintendo in every way =P

  • nes game is much better!!

  • @sabites You're trolling, right?

  • the nes version was a LOT better.

  • Ryu Hyabusa was kicking ass on the master system! no fuckin way.....

oh yeah, your pretty pro at this game btw dude

  • Wow finally found it! I played the shit outta this game when I was little!

  • best ninja gaiden ever! And best music for a first level!

  • Goddamn forest sumos!

  • I had no idea they made this for the SMS! Probably a good thing - the music makes me want to tear my ears off - nowhere near as good as the NES version.

  • Holy shit im 11 again taking it in turns with my dad on this .., good times

  • stage 3 looks like revenge of shinobi

  • nes game is better

  • @ChampionVortex Better how, because it was on the more successful console (in the US)? the SMS version is clearly, to anyone who isn't massively biased toward their favourite console, far superior in graphics and gameplay. The music seems to be a taste thing, I personally like it.

  • @ChampionVortex yeaaah nope master system handled this waaay better than the NES version....CLEARLY lol

  • @ChampionVortex You must be trolling.

  • @SisterKlon

    no, this is really better

  • Comment removed

  • he's saved it each time

  • the music on this game blows compared to the NES

  • Very skilled he makes it look easy very hard game.

  • Also; Samurai boss looks a little... FAMILIAR... doesn't he? (It's Doku - attacks the same, even in 8-bit)

  • Fun fact: This game is the basis for the Xbox series, not the NES. This was a pet project under request from Tecmo to see whether or not a Master System-specific trilogy oculd be made or if it was something of a crapshoot. Sega coded the game themselves to be a blend of the arcade and NES versions with new features and it sold over 1,000,000 copies in Europe, sadly this was in 1991-ish and by that point the dominance of the Genesis in Europe, Brazil and China forced the idea to bed.

  • Unbelievable game!!!!Has a great place in my child memories!!!

  • master piece

  • 3:14 :P oh yeah that boss was sooooo easy to beat, even if you suck xD

  • @driftmaniac765 Yes, attacking an old paraplegic man who can't move from his chair constantly even when he is slowly slumping to his death is very heroic indeed. Good Job Ryu.

  • @BigBadoor xD LOL

  • This comes nowhere near the nes versions.

  • Nes number 1 forever baby

  • Part of the reason NES sold better is cause of the music-I mean really, listen. But they should add more Master System games to virtual console. Nine or whatever number is too little.

  • Wow this looks and plays better than the NES version

  • @jisthebest50 all master system games were better than NES, only problem was Nintendo had the 3rd party market in the USA, so NES had way more games and thus was more popular. The Master System specs were overall much better than the NES.

  • @jisthebest50 yeah i want to play it

  • to play games in full RGB visit retrogamingcables.co.uk

  • This game looks way more fun than the current Ninja Gaiden games of the XBOX 360 and PS3.The platforming kicks serious ass in this old games. The problem with the new Ninja Gaiden games is that it didn't really have platforming,so all that acrobatic ability that Ryu had was a complete waste and was all focused on fighting. I remembered how much I loved Ninja G. for my old NES, it was fun. The first Ninja G. for the old XBOX bored me fast because of the lack of platforming :( , miss the old days!

  • can yal tell me what do yall mean by 3rd party support im studying to become a game designer so any help would b appreciated thanks

  • @shake838 Third-party support refers to the number of developers who develop for a particular platform who aren't the makers of that platform (e.g. Konami or Tecmo making games for the NES is "third-party", while Nintendo making NES games is "first-party"). The Master System didn't have much since Nintendo forced companies to develop exclusively for them for a number of years.

  • my favorite game when i was child. sega was my best friend

  • i see sega logos on stage 2. where is tecmo??

  • wow, ok i grew up on nes version ninja gaiden. what year was this particular game released? seems like it must have been 92-93 since it seems a tad better in graphics. nes ninja gaiden was 89. thijk i might the the emu for this, see what i missed ut on.

  • I don't want to offend anyone here but... does it almost seem like Master System games lack... a soul? They just seem strange....

  • @alec1382

They were vastly superior to NES games. Unfortunately the console didn't have any real 3rd party support...

  • @alec1382 thats because the sound chip in the master system was terrible. it makes the music sound like garbage.

  • @honestchrismcg I find it kind of amusing, both MS and Genesis had inferior sound, and when the Saturn came around, they just said "Fuck it! We're not getting one-upped this time!" Then they just add a whole processor for it. =p

  • i loved this game when i was a child. my favorite game to my sega mastersystem 2:)

  • this game was my first game i ever tryed its from my childhood brings back so menny memories ..!! and teh music listen to it EPIC :D

  • This version absolutely DESTROYS the NES version! I'm still blown away at how far superior the Master System was graphically. If only they had more 3rd party support, the console would've hung around a lot longer in North America than it actually did.

  • y is ninja spelled like NINJYA???? 0:05

  • dude..... you mastered the system

  • lol why is it called 'Ninjya Gaiden'? music is awful like others have said.. looks okay though.

  • graphics are good, but it doesnt have the same charm as nintendo's version, and the music quality is far inferior

  • God the music is horrible and terribly simplistic. Even Tetris had a more entertaining soundtrack. 9 out of 10 for the game itself, 0 for the music (my ears hurt :-( ).

  • @cnh2132 what are you on crack or something, the music is bomb

  • @ldlrdrllrr i don't know which one of us is on crack if you like that noise...

  • @cnh2132 Of course in those days Nintendo systems sounds were far more inferior than Sega's sound chips

  • Master system always did kick the NES's ass graphically, and that ledge hoisting move isn't on the nes either! Only gripe is the NES music was way better. Nice video dude, good to see the master system in action after all these years! Wish I still had mine. =)

  • Insane

  • @ 0:04... NINJYA GAIDEN???

  • Dude, you are just amazing at this!

  • Wow i didnt even know that sega came out with a ninja gaiden!!!

  • How do you play this on a US Master system?

  • you just play it on a US Master system. There's no region locks on it.

  • Thats what i thought, Then someone said it looked all glitchy. but i'll try it out.

  • good, this game is like 50 bucks so I wouldn't tell you it was fine if it wasn't. I'm Canadian and my copy of this game works just fine on my Master System.

  • There was a secret passage on the second stage just by wall-jumping, go freaking figure.

  • Haven't played this for 15-16 years...it was better than the NES version but it didn't have such epic music. The cutscens were here too, it had a different story though.

  • I think the SMS music for Ninja Gaiden was better than NES

  • wow never knew therew as one for Sega,

  • yup and this one is one of the best ninja gaidens ever made

  • the mechanics look way worse than the nes one

  • Anyone else think that music kinda sounds like the beginning of Iron Maidens Prowler?

  • Never saw this one!!! Eager to try it now

  • also i was unable to pass level 3 boss for a lifetime ur on crackkkkk

  • i miss this game... i like how a guy with a gun is not as a guy with a camera...

  • looks kool, hopefully this will get released on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console

  • Looks terrible compared to the NES games , the music sucks too.

  • this game looks very playable

  • The NES games were great, but DAMN were they unfair. Nearly unbeatable near the end.

  • What a game, I was fortunate to get this on the master system all those years ago, my cousin worked in boots when boots sold video games and she brought it for me one Xmas but the box was some shitty ninja game but inside was ninja gaiden...great times indeed

  • You guys do know in order to play this all you need is a computer right...... if you want the downloads just leave me a message and you'll have it less than 3 minutes guarantee when i give you the down load. i have the nes, Sega, and N64 games plus more. im playing N64 zelda now

  • its not the same playing it on the computer.

  • lol

  • This version seems to be good with a better animation than the NES version.

  • Cool! I want to try out this version of NG.

  • nice!!!!!

  • The 1st level music is great, and your speed run as well, way to go !!!

  • The first level music is my favorite music of the game, i loved.

  • omg he looks like little kid running around with plastic sword.. in ninja suit..

  • Ah, I remember this game well. I loved it. Too bad my Master System converter doesn't work on MegaDrive II

  • WTF?!! I didnt know this came out on Sega Master System. I thought it was NES exclusive. I used to go over my neighbor's house and play this on NES all the time.

  • @ccjames69 Europe had far more releases for the Master System compared to the US because they stopped selling MS games after 1990.

  • nope the last commercial release was sonic in 91 and they stopped selling in 92 in the US, Canada even got some euro games in late 92 early 93

  • I still prefer the original 1988 Ninja Gaiden arcade game exclusive to the Atari Lynx and Ninja Gaiden Black on Xbox.

  • Yeah it was way better on Arcade.

  • too bad the music sucks ass

  • Damn I always knew the Master System trumps the NES, but I never knew how bad. This game makes the NES version look like dogshit!

  • No it doesn't.

    ; )

  • I know this game has awesome music but what happened to the SEGA Master System drums in this game's soundtrack?

They have been replaced with simple cheap sounding white noise?

I'm only curious people so don't gang up on me okay. I love the music.

  • God damn, this dudes fuckin' this game up!

  • Jesus, the music on that first level is disgustingly awesome.

    I want this game bad.

  • one of the best ms2 games ever

  • if ANYONE knows this game im talking of please reply back. when i was younger my bro had a sega master system and he would play some ninja game and all i remember about it was that you could make like a shadow ninja appear above your guys head at some point..if you know what this game is PLEASE, tell me! thank you.

  • Shinobi maybe?

  • only thing that comes to mind is ninja Gaiden 2 forr the NESS

  • There was a game simply called - "The Ninja" might be worth looking that one up...

  • i have the game called "The Ninja" too reminds me of Commando, only youre a Ninja.

still i love commando so that game rox

I wish i had Ninja Gaiden for my Master System.

Alex Kidd in Shinobi world is a good Ninja Game too . Probably the best alex kidd game there is.

  • I always wondered who those dead ninjas who fall from the trees are when the Sumo rams you - your dead comrades maybe?

  • what is the sound track for this game?! GOD PLEASE TELL ME PEOPLE!!! oh and i might have spelled people wrong?

  • nooo mann the music in level 1 is sikkk lol

  • Ninjya Gaiden

  • cool game

  • FUCK! I wanted to see the cutscenes!

  • i sort of like this music

  • lol the music makes my ear bleeds

  • Looks exactly like Shinobi III on the MegaDrive

  • Holy cow this looks better than the NES version.

  • this soundtrack is TERRIBLE lol.

  • how to pronounce? ninja gayden or ninja guyden?

  • Guyden. but I always say gayden since that's how I thought it was supposed to be pronounced back then. You decide =D !

  • Incredible GRAPHICS!!! Too much better than NES version!!!

  • I didnt know they had this for the sega.

  • haha i remember playing this for hours and hours until i completed the whole damm game

  • 1:46 TYPO!!!!! Ninjya Gaiden

  • ryu hayabusa looked so different back then(if that is him) and is there a ninja gaiden where you play as kin[the best ninja ever:so says ninja gaiden dragon sword]

  • i had this game.. took me a fucking month to complete

  • OK the graphics look cleaner (the NES original suffered from a lot of dithering due to only 16 colours at a time instead of 52 like the SMS)...but the music is much better on the NES. Plus the story telling is my favorite bit about the games...and this version didn't have an amazing storyline.

  • The nes has 52 colors and can load 14 at a time.

  • theme song on 1st level is the best

  • The graphics look better than on NES, but other than that I think I'd be inclined to stick with the version for Nintendo's gray box.

  • This is just classic, pure badass ninja ownage. Ultra graphics for a system like the sms. And the gameplay is so cool. As for the music, i think it's way better on the sms version than the nes. Maybe it's just because i grew up with this version. Who knows. Memories man.

  • yeah im totally in love with this game.. i played it so much xD

  • this version is way kool but i think they could have done bit better with the music

  • I gotta import this game for my Sega MAster System. Ninja Gaiden kicks ass!

  • the master system gaiden is way better than the nes one. in sms gaiden, you can do moves they make you wait for until gaiden2 and 3 on nes. sms gaiden owns.

  • god i had this game for the MS when I was young and i still have it today and can still complete it and who else knows about the infinate ammo cheat?

  • What's the point of speed runs?

  • i had this game when i was a kid could never complete it though lol

  • Cool! I owned a Master System and never even knew about this. Man. Memories...

  • Wow; this one looks very different from the NES version.

  • the master system has better graphics than the nes, but in the music aspect the nes is better ....

  • true, but I think it was just better composers for the NES. The sound engine sounds like it has the identical capabilities; 2 square waves, a saw wave and a noise generator, or whatever.

  • yes, you are right , i think that was the reason that the sound of ninja gaiden sounded not as cool as the nes version, sorry if my english suck, im from argentina xD.

  • all these years...i thought to myself..what was that ninja game i used to play on the master system when i was a kid..i didnt think it could be the freakin original ninja gaiden holy crap. so getting this now ffs. i remember the music was great :D

  • this is much better than the nes version, but then so are all of the sega master games.

  • 0:04 ninjya gaiden...?

  • This is a prototype version. The typo was fixed and the text in the cutscenes changed completely in the final version.

  • the area Escape in the forest looks like the first area in Shinobi 3 for the genisis

  • The music makes me want to tear my hair out!

Yuck! god the nes had better melody!

    jeeezus!

  • I think the music for act 1 is fine, I like it, but I don't happen to like the music from other levels.

  • I never seen this before. I like this better than the nintendo version. The nintendo version was still good too though.

  • I'd buy a master system just to play this.
