  • Is that Pastor Black's choir or is that Rev Smith's choir over there @ Greater Travelers Rest Baptist behind South Dekalb Mall???

  • Pastor Black & Beulah were our guest on this day but the church is Greater Travelers Rest right behind South Dekalb Mall.

  • The Choir is Beulah Baptist Church J.D. Black Senior Choir

  • My Mistake, Its the Mass Choir!

  • I loved the older verseo by Rev Nicks but this pastor sung it beautfully also.

  • Yes! This is one Pastor's Black's favs...he really gets his dance on off of this one....and the Spirit goes from one member to the other....like a set of dominos

  • Question: Can ANYBODY tell me the gospel artist who originally did this song? I'm 24, but back in 1991 when I was 7, I was at a church anniversary of mines and remember the guest choir singing it...my first time I ever remember hearing it, although I know it had to have come out back in the 70s or 80s (or maybe 60s)..I don't know, lol

  • Rev. Charles Nicks Jr. & St. James Choir of Detroit, Michigan

  • Do you have anything with Rev. Charle Nicks Jr. If so can you please post it on here.

  • I wish I did, i would love to see video footage of Rev. Nicks & the St. James Choir

  • typesearch Rev. Charles Nicks on this site and you can listen to all of his music

  • You should here Shirley Bragg-Bell and Fellowship sing this...

Also, for Charles Nicks tribute, go to Detroit Remembers....

  • A charge to keep I have,

    A God to glorify,

    A never-dying soul to save,

And fit it for the sky.

    To serve the present age,

    My calling to fulfill:

O may it all my powers engage

To do my Master's will!.........best part!!

  • i love that everyone is gettin they step on...

  • What is with all the bickering betweens God's people. We must get on one accord. Much love.

  • Reminds me so much of St. James Baptist Church in Detroit....back in the day of Rev. Nicks and Jimmy "JD" Dowell.

  • This is my pastor! Love him, and love Sister Black too! This is my daily inspiration! "All of my help" sung by Rev. Black is so powerful.

  • So lame. I suppose the general consensus is that Christian rock or christian rap is bad. Or any christian song is bad that has music in it from a "bad" genre of music. Because it has "bad" roots? You should probably read your bible. Check out the descendents of Cain including those who are in the new testament. I doubt that everyone on that list is "bad."

  • This looks like E Dewey Smiths church

  • Sorry to report that is our church, Greater Travelers Rest. We had an awesome time in the Lord that evening

  • My question is this how Jesus had church? I Dont think so. Church changes and reflects the times in wich we live. It was a time when this type of singing was looked down upon in church because of the many blues elements in the music so why are we jumpin down thes so called New churches. They reflect the times in which we live.

  • Hi Shoutinjohn83

Interesting comments. First, Jesus would not have attended church as we know it. He would have attended the temple and worshipped according to his Jewish traditions. History shows that the church has mingled "secular" tunes with sacred lyrics and it did not begin with gospel music. If I am not mistaken, the piano and organ were secular instruments made sacred. Last, except for maybe the obvious worldy tunes how can one distinguish between sacred and secular music.

  • The object in wich the music is talking about. are you talking about worldly things or are you talking about and glorifying the creator of the universe.

  • Actually it's the reverse. The piano and organ as well as all other instruments were sacred instruments deemed secular by some ppl who didn't know what the Bible says.

  • Thats a nice POV but everyone has their own version of how "Jesus" had church. Were you there in ????A.D when Jesus was having church?

  • The problem comes in when someone comes out with new ways of glorifying God in a new way and people start downing these musians and saying that its influenced too much by the world, when this type of singing was influenced by the blues muscic of the 20's and 30's. Remember Thomas A. Dorsey was a blues muscian when He wrote Precious Lord

  • You have to realize that the bible does not record the music of the day but i know it did not sound like this. And there is nothing wrong with this type of music. I love music like this.

  • IO love Rev. Black Not only am I a member but he married me and my wife. Thank you Rev, Black you are the best

  • he mkes me think of Martin luther king

  • This man can have church all by himself...if I had a chance to go to Atlanta I will be heading directly to Beluah Baptist to get my blessing. Jerry Black is a true diciple of God. Best I've heard, hands down!

  • my favorite preacher, he as been a great souce of help to my ministry.

  • That's a Dr. Charles Nicks and St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit classic. SANG IT Dr. Black!!!!! Young folks don't know nothing about that.

  • sing it Rev. Black. that's right!!! this is a old school Detroit anthem. you right about young folks not knowing about gospel sing of this nature, THIS IS TRUE SHO NUFF GOSPEL SANGIN!!

  • i remember rev. black when he was in arkansas..he preached my aunt homegoing service...and he also was here last year...he is one of the choosen few...i will listen to him anytime...

  • Thats where the humbleness is. Alot of the craziness in young people can be blamed on the lack of respect for the church. But these churches that have gotten away from God are starting to be exposed...

  • i agree with you. i get this kind of service from pastor black every sunday!

  • amen to that brother. Im 26 and i know this. What is surprising is that a lot of this foolishness is coming out of young people down south in the church! That is sad because the south is the anchor for the black church! we not going to back to our roots!

  • You usally only see this type of worship in the mini-churches... Lady w/ tamborine in choir...

Most preaches have gone away from this but its the worship that got them old folks thru when black people were REALLY having hard times. I will surely goto a Sunday service here when I goto Atlanta again.

  • Ur gonna come to our church, Greater Travelers Rest

  • cdonon321 u are right.. most churches have gotten away from the true deep soul driven gospel music...some churches still do it though.. especially alot of the smaller churches in the country here in Alabama

  • I love this song. I can't get enough of this.

  • Thats my Pastor .. AMEN

  • Sang it Reb...

  • Who was the original gospel artist and choir who recorded this song? I've spent years searching

  • Recorded by The St. James Baptist Church Adult Choir pastored at the time by Rev. Charles H. Nicks, Jr. The Minister of Music was Bro. Jimmy "JD" Dowell.

  • my kinda church you don't hear this no more

  • now this guy is a preacher not like these young punks out there today

  • what do you mean young punks out there to day

  • yup ur right about that!

  • yeah these new niggas on the scene is really some punks especially wearing these big ties and shit!

  • People have taking "Come just as you are" a little too far

  • i remember him from when I was a little girl.... brings back memories

  • Theres lots of new church programs and church methods coming out every day, but theres nothing like having good ol church - I cant wait til Sunday!

  • Sing Jerry!

  • to God be the glory

  • My That is it right there!!!
