i've had a couple hard lumps that worried me and i was too scared to get them checked. 10 years later they are still there and i am not dead, so i'm thinkin it's probably not cancer lol. however, i am TERRIFIED to get a mammogram because it will be sooo painful on the lumps

Docs use ultrasound to examine the testes for abnormalities. This mammogram machine is really painful for women, but unfortunately it's the best testing we have.

@zeropointprophet No, but, the unpleasant equivalent would be a prostate exam to check for prostate cancer in men. The doctor feels the prostate by inserting 2 fingers into the rectum and palpating the prostate through the rectal wall. Having a doctor push his fingers up your butt is pretty unpleasant, but, it's important to check for this kind of cancer.

This 3D animation is a great way to provide information on this form of screening. I lost someone very close to me from breast cancer; a mammogram does look painful but consider the alternative. Early detection is VERY important!
