  • is it just me because I swear the judge of every freestyle battle is a black dude with dreads...? lol

  • best part of this video? I mean, aside from the dope battle? Look at 00:40. Sage tries so hard not to start laughing. Wonder if that's the moment he came up with the Michael Jackson line.

  • @ST4leave soul khans dope but all of those battles are pre written. this was back when everything was off the dome. watch eyedeas battles. all of his shit is spontaneous and off the top

  • Stfu with that soul kahn bullshit. I've seen them in their little wacky ass competitions with a long as timer.

  • Soul khan would put the soul on these cons.

  • Brother got served

  • @lilmale yah

  • is that Slug in the background with the cap on

  • @lilmale yeah

  • Sage is the biggest fag now. I miss these days when he was aggressive. Now he's on some dear diary, change your tampon while you get "STRANGE FAMOUS" tattooed on your wrists over your scars.

  • @CalvinMcCaskill You're the biggest fag now. He put out Personal Journals a decade ago. Where have you been?

  • is that mike v. behind everybody?

  • @skateandcreate1234 mr dibbs. co creator of scribble jam.

  • @lomf na man im talking bout the guy who is sitting next to slug, im pretty sure thats mike V

  • @skateandcreate1234 That's Dibbs.

  • @skateandcreate1234 haha foreal!

  • What beat are they battling to? Almost positive its the same beat used in 'The Game' by Vinnie Paz and Apathy, but considering this was 11 years ago, I'm assuming the beat could be from an older song?

  • @nicholasaaevans I think it's KRS ONE - Rising To The Top... Not sure if that's where the beat originally came from, though

  • @nicholasaaevans That's not KRS. That's Pete Rock's "Game". Check it out, great song.

  • wow sage francis looks different

  • sage francis has never had rhythm in any of his battles

  • hahaha the DJ ant takinga hit at 0:22

  • @crazybeast696969

bet hes smokin, ANT loves his butts lol

  • What!! Is that DJ Ant!!

  • Owtch, the beginning of the freestyle when Ali said "Fuck you and the Kool Aid flavored cherry that your heart pumps" took me aback, it was an unnexpected gaffe.

  • Probably the best rap battle I've ever seen. Actually, fuck probably. This is the best.

  • @xXDeathGuyXx someone uploaded the full scribble jam 2004, some CRAZY battles, sage freestyles at the end (and eyedeas a judge!)

  • damn i dont think there was a winner to this they are both amazing rappers

  • Sage looks like Tom Green, or maybe Aesop

  • hahaha did anyone else see ali flip sage off at the end? lmao

  • @smells4like2skunk0

Wow, I was there, in 2000, didn't see it there. But yeah Ali did flip the bird.

Both sick emcees though, Sage in 2000-2002 probably kills anyone in that timeframe.

    after that, Ali Reigns Supreme!

  • @smells4like2skunk0 I think he pointed to himself

  • @smells4like2skunk0 yeah we all seen it, it was clear as day and literally unmissable

  • i love how all the best are best friends

  • @joka55bmx those are the best battles

  • scribble jam, you want to prove that you were here? I'll give you a fucking footprint in your chest as a souvenir.

    fucking.dope.

  • Brother Ali murdered sage. Sage is good and all but all people ever have on Ali is the fact that he's albino. Not very original if you ask me.

  • Sage!!

  • looks like seth rogen(sage) VS Q-tip(ali) from me myself and irene

  • Haha at the end, Ali was like Bitch get over here...

  • Are these battles off the dome freestyles?

  • @tobtob180 depends on who it is. with these two, yes

  • @tobtob180 These two, yes, same if you see slug, blueprint, p.e.a.c.e, adeem and especially eyedea.

  • @tobtob180

In this type of competition, the rhymes had better be off the dome because an MC does not know who he will battle from one round to the next. An MC can TRY to come written, but eventually, he will have to get personal. If his rhymes are too generic, his method will get exposed.

  • @iran2025 Your retarded, he's pretty famous now. If you were in the hip hop scene then you would know that this is a old video. They both came from nothing to headlining at Paid Dues.

  • Sage has no flow in his battles. His lyrics are dope, its dope that he is clearly freestylin in comparison to a lot of people that come in with written rhymes and try to pass it off as a freestyle, but fuck man, Sage has no flow at all when he freestyles, its really really ugly.

  • your shit needs work, slice your wrists and drink your blood as if it was sizzurp, and yo you shit rewords, you get hurt... haha its all just fun tho really

  • is it just me or did Sage Francis only win because of his line about Brother Ali being an albino (the whole "Michael Jackson's disease" thing)? i personally thought Brother Ali came way harder tbh.

  • @eboyd32 ya definitely would've been nice to have multiple rounds, too close for me to call really

  • @eboyd32 It was a sick verse, a sick rhyme to come up on spot.. squashin emcees, jackson disease.. brother ali was just simple, and wasn't even personal to sage, coulda spit that at anyone else and got the same reaction.. nah sage kills it, its a battle, not a rhyme sesh

  • Haaaaa. Sage walks in in a Mettallica t-shirt and completely kills it.

  • What's the beat from?

  • @spcskateboarder5 not sure where it came from but its used in Apathy - The Game ft. Vinnie Paz

  • THATS WHAT SAGE USED TO LOOK LIKE??

    no fucking way man

  • @amsbeats Hes wearing a wig

  • Haha who else here knows this beat from one of immortal teniques song haha

  • sage francis looks different every time i see him

  • @jjreyes101 fake hat here fake beard in '01

  • lol look at brother ali flick his ass off at the end...

  • CANT BELIVE SAGE LOOKED LIKE THAT

  • @MrNapt you could have just said "i dont know anything about freestyle rap"

  • @LuCiDoMeN what are you saying?

i didnt say anything about freestyle rape?

are you salways randomly a douche to people?

  • "Won the biggest battle in a metallica shirt before the album dropped.."

    Sage, u r a genius.

  • back in the day sage called me a fat kid lol jokes on u jack i got a sixpack

  • @eazyworldkilla and that, my friends, is the highlight of this asshole's life.

  • @eazyworldkilla lmao don't know why i'm laughing cuz that's one of the sadest things i've ever read, i can picture a fat kid crying while doing sit ups cursing sages name.

  • kool aid flavor cherry that your heart pumps i think that was fuckin nuts

  • Haha!

Ali revealed recently that Sage actually asked him what Sizzurp was backstage before the battle.

  • @celt29, Yea on his live chat, I was there too.

  • @celt29 Haha yes. The "Sippin' on Sizzurp" song had just become popular so I was hearing it a lot. I asked Ali what it was and he explained it to me. So I used it against him in the battle. I'm really glad he remembered that story because I didn't. These were legendary battles and crazy times...in ways a lot of people will never understand. Great fun all around.

  • @tremorinmysoul

While I respect the talent of a lot of current battle cats, what you're saying is def. true. Honest freestyle battles are a thing of the past....while cats are writing amazing battle verses that would kill most freestyles, the freestyle muscle has atrophied for most emcees. It's sad....I think that approach developed a certain perspective of honesty that has been lost on a lot of current lyricists. Hard to front when you don't have time to think.

  • what beat is this

  • @regularasselo sounds like AOTP or somethin

  • @regularasselo

"The Game" by Pete Rock ft Prodigy,Ghostface, and Raekwon

  • @regularasselo Vinnie Paz - The game

  • @Schlaktad Dude, this was recorded before that song was made. It's Pete Rock and Ghostface - The Game

  • @pronedaddy Ah yeah. Whatever. I like Vinnie paz more!

  • im nota sage francis...brother ali is dope as fuck his song and he can free pretty damn good but sage came nice on that

  • damn fuckin 10 years later and sage is easitly 2/3 times that size.

he's also way short, too. got to see him live and gave him a hug and whatnot.

also FUCK why does scribble jam have to be all the fuckin way in ohio.

i cant afford a plane or bus ride there..dammit...

  • i havent seen him skinny in mad long

  • See how Sage rushed to shake his hand when he realized Ali was reaching out for daps?

    Now that's Hip Hop

  • sage francis for the win haha

  • Damn

    that shit was sick

  • ahahaha sage francis is soo dope. that michael jackson killed it!! killed it! ahaha

  • whoever said hip hop was black culture...

hahahah look at what black people did to hip hop

  • What beat is this?

  • Jedi... I love both of their music.

  • 2 well respected emcees

  • This is probably one of my favorite years of scribble, but whoever went second if it was an even match up won (x:Eyedea vs. Brother Ali, Brother Ali vs. Sage)

  • retard.

Calling Hip-hop black culture is so retarded as Hip-hop in it's original elements had performers from all backgrounds from day one, the only common factor is that they are poor. So while bitches are on that divide & conquer B&W shit, they're actually on some ignorant shit, missing the intire point: Hip-Hop is universal, and if ure "black" and being burned on the mic, the wall, the floor or on the decks by a white performer; stop whining and stop being both an idiot and a racist. Word.

  • @arise2 stfu

  • @ZidaneVsMoths "Brother Ali's albinoism is a much better gimmick than Sage's nerdiness"- WOW...with a comment like that u don't deserve a keyboard...fuck it, u don't deserve a life

  • @ZidaneVsMoths wow you spend to much times writing comments

  • I prefer Sage Francis but he got smashed. The chatroom line, the footprint line...Definitely trumped anything Sage said :/

  • Ali is a white albino, he's not black dudes. Besides, what did Ali have over Sage? Riddle me that.

  • @KTD82291 I could care less if Ali is black or white, fact of the matter is he had a better delivery, flow, lines, and he came in the battle with an obvious disadvantage (being albino) plus he went first. Sage was just talking with no regard to timing, the beat and had 1 nice line...but hey bullshit happens

  • Ali is good, but Sage still had great flow, he's always an excellent freestyler. Sage stayed consistent and one punchline can really turn a battle around, especially if the timing is a minute or less.

  • @KTD82291 u know what...this will go back and forth but like my man GoodBlackMusic said below...u might be in that group that Sage appeals to

  • Yeah these debates do go back and forth, I'm not trying to say that Sage is better or anything. I like Ali, I'm just also giving Sage his props. I like Sage Francis, but I'm not one of those suburban white dudes who is appealed by Sage. That's not what battling is about either.

  • How is being an albino a disadvantage?

almost everyone at scribble jam is white

  • I cant cosign wack shit so gimme my thumbs down u dickryding bitches. How is that verse by Sage even getting a reaction out the crowd? A black with the Michael Jackson disease is a nice punch but if u off beat and sound corny for the rest of the lines...how u do u win? If the judges were black Ali woulda won

  • that line is in time imho, its just a complex rhyme pattern.

how do you know the racial composition of the judges btw?

  • @ceonuse I know the racial composition of the judges cuz...Sage won lol. When did it become cool to sound geeky and off beat? Don't think I'm racist either because Slug and Eyedea are much better battlers imo and u can see Ali resonates with that ill shit too cuz he's from the same camp

  • @Shottagon

Thats because Sage Francis appeals to a specific crowd. Surburban white elitist kids.

  • @GoodBlackMusic werd

  • Sage 1 Ali 0

  • Sage Francis use 2 be hella skinny

  • @Alchemy510

    he still looks akward though

  • Ali took it in my opinion...Sage was off beat and had 1 decent punch

  • Word.

  • wats the instrumental

  • Method Man -It's not a game

  • ALI even lol at that verse

  • I honestly liked Ali's verse more.

  • Sage killed it

  • Sage is legend

  • lol Black man with a michael jackson disease!

  • Haha, he is a white albino

  • haha Sage slaughters everyone

  • 2001

  • hahaha, Sage kind of slaughtered Ali with that "...michael jackson's disease" quote...funny! I like them both though.

  • that shit was dope

  • Sage Francis is a better battle emcee, but Brother Ali's music i way better, in my opinion.

  • btw, you know brother ali is legally blind? I've yet to see him with vision difficulties that are obvious by any video footage (both live or recorded) that ive seen of him, but he is legally blind.

  • i've only recently came across the styles of rap that cats like ali and sage are spittin and i love that shit. i used to be mad into punk and hardcore, typical music genres to be featured by Epitaph records... not sage francis and rappers, but they had signed him anyway. Ali and sage have atleast 2 songs out together, so for the record atleast they're cool with each other on track... and a collaboration of two great MCs with great vocabularies.

  • i love it when Ali nods and is all like "good dis" after Sage's line about the 'michael jackson disease'.

  • the beat is "the game" pete rock did it

  • Naw its a beat from method Man - it's not a game

  • is this a jedi mind trick instrumental?

  • pete rock "the game"

  • they seemed about tied to me on that. i liked both they're verses!

  • Vampire no he doesn't Ali does, in fact Ali like to bring that up in some of there other battles.

  • No, Ali didnt win in Scibble Jam in 2000.

In 2000 Sage Francis won the whole thing. In fact Ali has NEVER won a Scribble Jam.

  • They are both better emcees than anyone posting comments on this video... I think we can all agree on that.

  • Sage Francis wins this tournament.

  • it's because they're actually freestyling, and they're friends in real life...9 years ago most emcee's DIDN'T pre-write disses to everyone who entered these competitions, unlike nowadays where cats even come with disses written against their 'friends'. No one freestyles, & the 'good battlers' can't write good songs because they spend too much time writing new disses. Nearly everyone at that Scribble Jam was/ is a true artist, unlike the boring puppets in the modern 'MAJOR LEAGUE' battle scene.

  • i disagree. Ali and Sage are friends in real life...then you say "cats come with disses written against their friends". I mean you're telling me ali doesn't know enough about sage and vice versa to research ahead of time and have shit memorized?

No offense but watching these battles with ALI makes him look mad nerdy. Like he comes hard on his songs and album covers but he looks dorky especially when he tries to give a handshake and then does that gay fat middle finger. He's gorky!!

  • I miss those days fo freestyle...i agree alot of the rap battles today are stupid cus all the material used are pre-written. Gotta love the old style backpacker free flow rhymers...

  • @GrippinLipps backpackers slap rappers backwards

  • @tremorinmysoul But can you really blame them? I mean even if everyone freestyles there will be that one guy who isnt that great off the top but spent 9 months writeing and who will kill you. I mean would you ask every rapper at the 08 scribble to just freestyle and try to come out over thesaurus? Do you think they would miss there shot at the win trying to be "real" haha. I respect what your saying though, if everyone freestyled it would be better. But it only takes 1 to fuck everything up

  • for real. me and my friends actually freestyle. we're not that great at it, but i'd rather practice and get good then just have all my shit written. it's going to feel a lot better when you spit some filthy line that you didn't see comin, then dropping some bomb that anyone with the time could come up with

  • @tremorinmysoul all I gotta say is.... word.

  • @tremorinmysoul Thats a depressing reality.

  • @tremorinmysoul doesnt get much realer than that

  • @tremorinmysoul shut the fuck up! are you a fucking hiphop referee or what? did you take a course in community college about this shit?

  • @derock191 have a lollipop for effort.

  • What? are we watching teh same battle? Francis kills it.

  • I think we are watching the same battle and I'll have to give it to Ali on this clip.

  • for the record, sage francis won scribble jam in 2000, and was beat by his friend adeem in 2001. so yeah sage did win this round. correct me if i am wrong on those dates.

  • brother ali is cool and all, but clearly sage smoked this one.

  • its not three different battles, just three different cameras.

And Brotha Ali got this one

  • by sage's smile at 42 seconds, i would say that was the moment he thought of the 'michael jackson line'

  • You = idiot

  • thats quite possibly the dumbest thing i've EVER heard. seriously. ever. in my whole life.

  • lol, sage belongs with a circle of dusty hippies....

  • um this same freestyle is on youtube 3 times.. different venues same battlers... like WTF?

  • check sage at 0:20 he knew what ali was gonna say before he said it

  • if you think thats impressive look at immortal technique's shit he know a whole like of what the other guy says

  • he should have kept his voice without that fuckin twang he added, now a days he sounds madd stupid!

  • sage seemed more improv ali sounded like he already had a list of "freestyles" to sing. sage won

  • brother ali>>>>sage francis

  • brother ali won you fuckheads...hes amazing listen to his album truth is you fuck

  • o mr.lif de mestre de cerimonia?

  • sage used da mike jackson punchline in da 99 scribble jam against Ali.......kinda wierd huh

  • sage killllllssss!!
