4.56's are pretty short. I'm pretty close to topping out when I go through the traps at 115. I'm debating on going back to a taller gear, 4.11's or 3.89's.
Sounds like a toploader trans, really should drop into neutral on decel. You can hear the drive train ocillations feeding back into the motor, that "wa, wa, wa, wa}.
Nope, C4 with manual valve body and aftermarket shifter. If I'm careful, I can sling it to N, but getting it back to third before first or second engage is the hard part.
AWESOME CAT 12.20 is pretty darn fast, I put a 351W in my 68 Cougar, but haven't tracked it yet, but I think it may be close to yours. Keith Black 11:1, Rousch Heads 2:02 valves comp cam, headers, MSD ignition 6a box,etc.
Good run! The Cougar club up in Dallas drag races all the time. Best time for me is 11.24 in my 70 (351W also) (all motor) but it also got me kicked off the Motorplex. :) Had to switch to 1/8 mi since they don't ban you at the local track.

wow u pulled a 12.20 wit a stock 351 windsor? how fast do u think a 351 cleveland wit a 4 barrel, headers, and dual exhaust would do? i have that in my 72' ford ranchero gt
It's not stock, running higher compression, Victor Jr Intake, Holly 830, Dart Sr heads, 2.02/1.60 valves, and a mild cam (224/234 duration with .496/.520 lift).

@MobileDjSC depends on what your motor will rev to.... if your shifting at 4900 RPM,,, 456s will leave you on the red line at 1000 feet
