  • Don't be surprised if this beautiful animal gets bad joints later on as you shouldn't work or exercise this bread for at least 18 months to avoid damaging their joints. The x Rays are also bogus because the joints can't be checked until they are developed at 18 months of age also.

  • Awesome Dog!

  • he loves this lol

  • hehehe!

reminds me of the dog shows we used to go to when I was a kid, we had a bernese so this was something we saw a lot!

  • because it's wide angle,she looks like a Lab with a lift kit ;)

  • I was told that its not good on the dogs to be pulling a cart until they are at least 2 years old and mature. So it doesnt stunt their growth.

  • @BarrelRacer955 It isn't good for the dog. He's FAR too young for this.

  • lol the cat... hey, what about me? I'd laugh if someone started cat driving. lol cute pup!

  • The owner of Nana purchased her cart at dogworks. com

  • where can i get a cart and harness setup for my bernese mountain dog?

  • ahaha ya thats exactly wut i wanted to know for myt berner!

  • thanks!

  • She is a pure bred Neufie. She was only 6 months old, and the video was shot in a wide-angle mode which left everything a bit taller and less wide than it truly is.... so, in the video, she doesn't look as filled out as she really was at that age.

It also made the handlers look taller and thinner, as well.

Once the video was shot in that mode, it was not possible to rectify it with the software that we had available to us at the time.

  • Do all Newfoundland Pups have hair that short?

  • No they dont

  • @darnfar bullshit, thats one hell of a skinny dog.You can tell, because the car.handler and the kitty show up normal.

  • @hasjtrackers No, it was shot in wide angle and everything is stretched. The man is NOT that tall and skinny in person, either. Look at the wheels on the wagon. They are not round. They are taller than wide.

  • What other breed is she mixed with?

  • Pure Newfie.

  • Beautiful scenery, lovely music. Could you please tell me the name of the song?

  • great vidoe! I'd love to train my newf to do that too but it's forbidden to let a dog pull carts over here :(

  • very nice video!!

i love it! she pays good attention! very obedient.

i have 2 pitbulls that i am currently training to cart...

good gas mileage...lol thats not really y... they both LOVE TO ORK!!!

  • Yes. First class obedience. But just admire her attention. She will go far. Thanks for this very instructive video.

  • my male rott is going to be trained to cart. he's currently 9 months. In May he'll be 13 months and we'll start working with the cart. He's going through basic obidience (currently) and will then be learning agility. Over the summer I will start introducing and working with the cart.

  • Yeah Newfies love to work.. our Clipper got so excited when he saw his harness... but then he was always nice and still when we put on his harness.. as if to say.. ok I'm ready!! You look to have done a great job with Nana. Yeah you don't recommend any weight before they are 18 months old.. but getting them used to something behind them if they are not being stressed is great!! Newfies love to work!!!

    Best wishes!!

  • I was told absolutely no pulling until 18 months! She does really well! You guys are training her great...she's not afraid of the cart behind her or anything!

  • Prior to training, Nana's owner had her vet do a thorough check, including a hip x-ray that was deemed "excellent". We worked her on smooth pavement, no load. She never worked for more than 5 minutes. Nana had been in training for basic obedience a few weeks earlier. We acclimated her to the cart when her owners took a trip. She was very comfortable with our leadership, so the carting into was easy. Nana was not put into jeopardy physically, she seemed to enjoy the work.

  • Oh I never meant to imply that Nana was in peril of any sort...just that I had been told that it shouldn't be done...I think she really enjoyed it, after all they were bred for drafting as well as rescue. FYI: Nana in "Peter Pan" was supposed to be a Newfoundland even though Disney popularized the St. Bernard...though I suppose they could have been trying to make a Landseer Newfie.

  • Amazing.

She seems to really love it, too. =)
