He proceeded to ask me where I was going...had I ever been arrested before...(i gave him a look like -r u serious?!)...and so he called for backup. It happens here in Australia too; I saw it every day in the last job I was in. It was funny in that I was the only one who DIDN'T call others stupid, incompetent etc. Other did that, but they tended to be speaking from their own mental insecurities.
I think education systems all around the world are struggling to balance the priorities. Because people learn differently, there does not appear to be any one way of stimulating creativity.
A better balance between deductive reasoning and imagination is needed.
Experience is still be best teacher.
I think parents(unintentionally, I feel) who are very busy at times fail to do their part also. With the current pace of the world, failures to inspire thought in the home and school occurs.
As a product of the educational system, I think it is advanced citizenship... You have to want to learn enough to go get it. You can not wait for the info to come to you. And in my 45 years, I have always found that if one really wants to learn, there are enough good people that will either teach you or show you where you can go to learn.
Personally, I feel blessed to be here. Our system isn't perfect but I have not received a better offer.
What may also be an issue in the US is the prioritization of performance test that don't always evaluate potential and problem solving talent.
Last thing I can think of are the social and economic issues that have negatively impacted mentoring, apprenticeships, and the effective knowledge transfer that is needed so that as a society, we continue to improve. These are not easy issues nor can they only be attributed to education. Many factors contribute.
Also, the USA is a work in progress. Sometimes we are going in the wrong direction with a system, law, or policy. Nice part of the deal is that we can, as a people, change course and try something else.
If you're talking about the educational and psychological criteria required for police officers in the US, I agree completely. It's an extremely tough, demanding job...very few people have the ability or even want to do it. In my home state, they actually run TV commercials recruiting cops and prison guards!
I'm of the mind that police officers should be treated like school teachers: only the best/brightest get accepted and are well-paid for their efforts...but that's in a perfect world. eh?

They all jump out of the car after about 2 minutes of lights and sirens, and he is supposed to not be suspicious at this point? You guys are real smart if you think a cop should just have said " Oh I am so sorry, well run up into the hospital, I didn't want to enforce traffic law. I agree that he went for quite some time after the blues went on, and that he was acting agitated and confrontational. However, I personally feel that when a person is panicked and grief-stricken, they aren't thinking at all clearly or being their usual self. Their mind is on one thing, whatever it is they are going through. He RAN A RED LIGHT. Its not like he killed someone. That cop did not have to give him such a hard time over that. I dont think its a racism thing. Its a police power trip.

Redneck cops are real assholes. I'm black and when I was 5 months pregnant I was pulled over for not stopping long enough at a stop sign. He proceeded to ask me where I was going...had I ever been arrested before...(i gave him a look like -r u serious?!)...and so he called for backup. His buddy was looking through my car with flashlight...for what? I don't know...I'm petite 5'3 so I don't feel that I was such a threat. Anyway he ended up letting me go with a warning.

Good point. Police officers pull people over inside hospital parking lots constantly. And when a dispatcher notified this particular officer of the CODE BLUE, when the nurse had to leave the ICU to come down and pull Ryan upstairs because his mother's heart had stopped (Ryan had to permit CPR to be performed) The officer stood his ground! This obviously was just another excuse. The pig jabbered away, repeating himself, protecting his pride, boosting his ego, and making his penis feel bigger.

This cop seemed more concerned about telling Moats what he COULD do to him rather than just processing the stupid ticket that he was so "concerned" about.
He also seemed to take pleasure in telling Moats to "shut up" or he'd be "taken to jail."
Even after the hospital staff told the officer, he still acted an ass. Sorry. Glad he quit his job. He needs a new career. Luckily he didn't shoot anyone.

The officer never disputed that they had an emergency, he simply wanted them to comply with what he was asking so that the situation could be resolved. The Moats family made it take longer by elevating the level of force options for the officer.

And for everyone who says Moats' mother-in-law had been dying for months, and it was no big deal, you've obviously never had a critically-ill loved one in the hospital. It's impossible to be there 24/7, but when they need you, you come running...

I think education systems all around the world are struggling to balance the priorities. Because people learn differently, there does not appear to be any one way of stimulating creativity.
A better balance between deductive reasoning and imagination is needed.
Experience is still be best teacher.
I think parents(unintentionally, I feel) who are very busy at times fail to do their part also. With the current pace of the world, failures to inspire thought in the home and school occurs.

As a product of the educational system, I think it is advanced citizenship... You have to want to learn enough to go get it. You can not wait for the info to come to you. And in my 45 years, I have always found that if one really wants to learn, there are enough good people that will either teach you or show you where you can go to learn.
Personally, I feel blessed to be here. Our system isn't perfect but I have not received a better offer.

What may also be an issue in the US is the prioritization of performance test that don't always evaluate potential and problem solving talent.
Last thing I can think of are the social and economic issues that have negatively impacted mentoring, apprenticeships, and the effective knowledge transfer that is needed so that as a society, we continue to improve. These are not easy issues nor can they only be attributed to education. Many factors contribute.

If you're talking about the educational and psychological criteria required for police officers in the US, I agree completely. It's an extremely tough, demanding job...very few people have the ability or even want to do it. In my home state, they actually run TV commercials recruiting cops and prison guards!
I'm of the mind that police officers should be treated like school teachers: only the best/brightest get accepted and are well-paid for their efforts...but that's in a perfect world. eh?

Moats should have stopped immediately, like every other normal person would have under those circumstances. He thought he was above the law and didn't have to stop for the officer. Moats was wrong. He risked the lives of others by not obeying traffic laws. That is why traffic laws don't have exceptions for the general public, even if you are on your way to the hospital to visit a dying relative. Moats would have arrived sooner if he had obeyed the law. Yes the officer could have been nicer.
