  • eric is gorgeous, he sings honestly, beautifully, sweetly, as an angel should, and is the best guitarist ever. thank god he doesn't sing like an affected wailing pimp boy ,high pitched and whiny fake ,as so many metalpop sting bonos. he plays with sensitivity, grace ,and reverence for the art and craft . any negativity here is unsophistication, and on the wrong side of goodness and beauty . bless this wonderful human .

  • @MrScary5150 I said views compared to guitar player videos.

  • If you don't like EJ fine. But to not at least grudgingly admit that he's truly great at his craft is simply denying the obvious. He has his thing and players such as SRV and the like had theirs. They all create their art and throw it out into the world for those of us who can't or won't supply their own magic to judge

  • second solo is complete EJ, while 1st solo is a dead on rendering of Jimi's backwards one, very impressive, I have a new respect for EJs ear.

  • Eric Johnson effects:

Ibanez Tube Screamer, Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face, BK Butler Tube Driver, TC Electronic Stereo Chorus, Vox CryBaby wah-wah, ToadWorks Barracuda flanger, Prescription Electronics Experience octave fuzz, Xotic AC Booster, MXR Flanger/Doubler, Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man delay, Boss Corporation DD-2 Digital Delay, MXR 1500 Digital Delay, Line 6 Echo Pro Studio Modeler, Maestro Echoplex tape delays. But play real or live backward/ reverse music, with no effects, no.

  • damn this rules

  • Nice stuff, but wheres the beef?

  • To bad this guy has no soul. That's why he'll never be a "grea"t guitar player and that's why he is forgotten. His playing makes no impression on me what so ever and that's what seperates him from great players like Jimi, SRV, Jimmy Page...etc.

  • @tacitus2244

C'mon man, are you fucking serious? Has no soul? You cannot be stupid if you appreciate Jimi and Jimmy, but if you put SRV over this guy you have your head up your ass. I don't know how old you are, but I liked SRV when he first appeared, some of his songs are terrific blues, but he reached his limit very quickly and played the same hackneyed licks over and over again like beating a dead horse. I'd rather listen to another Jimmy, his brother. Eric : same soul, better musician.

  • ok erics the best ive ever seen he just copied hendrix,s solo exactly live best sound ive ever heard he is so underated what ever happened to him in the 90,s because it was like he just vanished and was forgotten very sad because if more record labels had of backed him he could have been the new hendrix

  • I love an artist who is so absolutely gifted, yet humble, funny and NOT in the tabloids. A true gentleman. Just amazing.

  • Man... He's an incredible guitarist, but I find Eric Johnson to be far too square to pull this off. Look as him dance with his little white man knee bends. Just doesn't feel right. Eric Johnson doesn't have enough sex to him.

  • @StreetRum1 He's actually been in therapy to help him lose his extreme clinical obsessions and OCD. Even among white guys, he was (fomerly) as clinical a guitar player you could ever meet. I beleive since he's been trying hard to let go of his obsessive perfection.

  • @spjunkie Well I won't say that I'm not in awe of his technique, but there's not a single one of the virtuosic electric guitar players around that I can say I like. That clinical edge drains their music of any soul as far as I'm concerned. This is what comes from spending your early life practicing 8+ hours a day, I think. Interesting little bit of info there though dude, cheers for that.

  • I kinda thin Eric Johnson and Jimi Hendrix have a lot in common. Not really their style, but both of them are so different from everyone else, uses chords not many people do, have their own distinct tone, and they both have their own style. Main thing in common imo, is that they are both very experimental and are doing new things with the guitar. EJ is completely unique, and so is hendrix. You can't compare, but they are both unique and we are lucky to have EJ now what hendrix is gone my opinion

  • very respectful, very studious VERY impressive interpretation of the backwards solo. few with any sense would even touch this song.

  • this is amazing, i mean listen to the in and outs of notes in the solo!!! perfect in everyway

  • needs someone else to sing it.

  • he looks like cloud from final fantasy 7 cool and he is a brilliant guitarist

  • SEEN THIS GUY LIVE ...? WELL HE IS THE BOMB !Saw him with Joe Satriani \,,/ 1990

  • It's hard to understand someone missing the beauty of this cover but it's fallen on some deaf ears that I know; people who should know better !

  • That solo is fuckin' sweet

  • Cock Block on the bass guitar? Ok, that's cool I s'pose

  • something real fuckin creepy and robotic in the way he quick turned to face the amp like that LOL

  • It's been a while, but I feel privileged to have seen Eric Johnson play live six times in the mid 1980's. He played this the first time I saw him which was at the annual KTXQ (Q102) free concert in Dallas at which the Fabulous Thunderbirds were the headliners. I was supposed to see him play a seventh time, but for some reason did not go. That night Stevie Ray Vaughn jumped up on stage and jammed with Eric, and I missed it! A few weeks later Stevie Ray was no longer with us...

  • This was a while back, but you still wish you can play like him!!

  • Gay outfit

  • EJ sportin that flock o seagulls haircut! Haha

  • I'm not talking about stoned, but uh...MYSTICAL.

Mr. Vince Mariani gave him that haircut by the way. Mariani co-wrote "Desert Rose", and was also one of Eric's first bands.

How about Mr. Tommy Taylor back there channeling his inner Mitch Mitchell? One of the most underated drummers of all time.

  • Its like chuck Norris had sex with a strat, and fed the love child on nothing but Hendrix and the minor pentatonic...

  • @mlb0226 That's funny

  • I've never seen a backwards solo replicated live accurately like that. Granted, that wasn't even just accurately. That was astonishing. Bordering on impossible. My respect for Eric Johnson is in the stratosphere now. Jimi would be so proud of that.

  • Guy is amazing. This is NOT a song that many have nailed with so many of the original studio vibes that johnson just pulled off. Incredible!

  • wow that did sound reversed

  • I'm not sure people are properly appreciating the live, forwards "backwards" solo stuff. Canonical.

  • saw him do this at the exp hendrix tour last year.... needed to make sure my ears were not playing tricks on me! Amazing tribute!

  • Awesome!

  • simply incredible. thats all i can think of to describe this cover

  • Masterful use of the volume control. My hat's off to you Mr J.

  • I was expecting a typical EJ solo...good god! How he replicated Jimi's backward guitar solo LIVE was simply amazing.

  • @RockAragosta

    Agreed, it's simply mind blowing...

  • puta que pariu que que isso meu chapa? foi o melhor solo de guitarra que eu ja vi o cara to cou o solo invertido do hendrix !!!!!! pirei demais

  • One of the best Hendrix covers iv'e seen, and the worst haircut in rock n roll haha. Man.. this guy.. i thought i was a purist.

  • 666 views, when I come here, haha!!!

  • What's amazing is that Jimi flipped the solo and put it in reverse on the final cut. Eric nails Jimi's reverse solo pretty impressively!!!! :D

  • Man this is incredible! This guy, when I watch these videos of him on youtube and the dvd's I have, I get this inspiring, sudden, and extraordinary urge to pick up my guitar and just jam like he does. Granted, I'm not nearly as good as him, but watching him play gives me the hope and determination to learn and play as best I can. I'm glad I got to see him live once so far. Hopefully I he comes around my town again.

Anyway, back to jamming on my guitar.

  • @mcjoz88 Johnny Marr's playing inspires me to pick up the guitar and play and play, EJ makes me wanna put it down, like what's the point? compared to him I'm just making a mockery of the damn thing, lol.

  • I love SRV and Frank Marino (another uder rated guitar wizard, Frank marino), but Eric Johnson sounds so much like Jimi when we wants to......mind blowing. This cat is one of the best guitarists in the world
