Neil, My name is Patrick Flanagan and in 1971 I was stationed in An Khe & attended the USO show ur referring to. On that day u and I spent time together on cloud 9 'cause Phyllis picked me to dance with her. It was unbelievable! I remember a couple of the gals including Miss Texas and Miss Nevada a beautiful redhead w/freckles! What a trip to stumble across your video after 40 years. My e-mail slaintend@aol.com if you care to communicate. I have pics of the gals from a distance.
Neil - I forgot to sign my name below, and for some reason my son's business is written instead of my name. lovingly written to Neil from Karen Shields Griffin - Miss Arizona '70 - Miss America Vietnam USO Troupe 1971 After all these years, I still find myself wishing we could have lingered a while longer with ALL of you beloved men in uniform - whether it was in the bush, a hospital, along the Cambodian border or somewhere along the Mekong... I always wanted to stay just a few minutes more.
Neil.... I am in tears as I write this, my "Forever Friend" (as you well know, there is only one other gentleman in my life that bears that distinction, and I know he would glady agree that I should share this honor with YOU! :) Yes, you & ALL the soldiers in Vietnam took up residence in a place in my heart that has remained YOUR place always & forever! Your tribute brings it all back again - the good, the bad, the sad, the happy. Moments I wouldn't trade for ANY thing! God BLESS u & yours
Neil, as I 've told you before, "Welcome Home, Soldier!" You were the reason that we were there in the War in South Vietnam...you and all of your brothers. My "Miss America" sisters, Phyl, Hela, Cheryl, Donna, Vicky, and Karen love you all and we are still there with you and will forever be. Vaya Con Dios, darlin'!
