Under the circumstances I think the Army rank and file have done a fine job. With the exception of the Coast Guard, the military high command and our political leaders do not act in the best interests of the nation or our people. Otherwise, 32 out of 34 pages of Jessica's debriefing would not have been redacted (censored) out of the 15-6 investigation report. I understand the frustration of being misled, but Jessica was not responsible for that, she went above and beyond to make sure the truth was told. Under the circumstances I think the Army rank and file have done a fine job. With the exception of the Coast Guard, the military high command and our political leaders do not act in the best interests of the nation or our people. Look at the ridiculous amount of press she got. (she had no control over that of course). I was going to say they could have driven to the hospital, which actually is what most of the element did (while not under fire mind you). Awesome how they had a special press breifing and billed this as a commando raid that fought a heavy firefight entering and exiting, but yet they thought ahead to bring a camera crew AND a flag (2:50) to lay on her stretcher. The army pimped this soldier out as a hero and then billed this as a hard fought rescue mission. It's a shame the senior leadership can't practice the same values they expect from the lower ranks.

kind of ironic how the civilian personel at the Iraqi hospital tried to drop her off at an american checkpoint but were suspected of being hostile and so subsequently shot at days before this rescue mission.
Btw does anyone know what happened to the six or so other u.s. soldiers who were captured the same day Lynch was? did anyone bother "rescuing" them?

@pauisnow OK... The way I saw it a US Soldier was captured, and although being treated humanely was in need of rescue. That rescue happened and in the process no enemy combatants were killed and no other soldiers were injured or killed. In my book That = Textbook tactical victory.

i respect lynch's service and i thank her. but what did she do that was so brave and heroic? she got in a crash, was carried to a hospital, and was carried out of a hospital. that's it.
war is hell. especially when your first sergeant cant read a goddam road map!!! i still cant believe he led the convoy into that clusterfuck city. he had no business leading anything. he put lives in danger and got people killed.

Are you all serious? Her weapon jammed so she should hide... I'm a Marine and they train us all the time on what to do if our weapon jams... I'm talking double feed and just brass block... Look, fact of the matter is the folks who went in and recovered her are owed a debt that can NEVER be repaid in my eyes and are the reason why those of us who wear a uniform in situations like Jessica's once they are found they get back to their familes ALIVE! @90infantry Well I agree she isn't a hero. But from what I can understand, her weapon, along with many others, jammed. At that point there is nothing to do but try to hide. But even then, I don't think she could hide seeing how she had a broken leg and multiple other injuries. You're just pissed because she is a woman. Plain and simple. Your book does not tell the ENTIRE story of Jessica's captivity. ENTIRE means the same thing as complete. Your posting brought back up this 'ghost'. Otherwise, 32 out of 34 pages of Jessica's debriefing would not have been redacted (censored) out of the 15-6 investigation report. She suffered horrific abuse throughout her captivity and very likely witnessed war crimes committed against her fellow POW's including torture and murder.

And, everything in the book is based on documented facts and personal interviews of those who were there. I did not speculate on the unknown. Only Jessica will ever know the complete truth.

@RSLowry1 Actually, more people than Jessica know what happened because of those 32 pages of testimony that have been redacted. Someone had to be present during the debriefing, Other people had to read what Jessica said in those 32 pages. Senior Pentagon officials who read those 32 pages made the decision to redact them. The Iraqis videotaped what they did to US POW's as well. The videotapes of Jessica were recovered by US military personnel also. Jessica is certainly not the only one who knows

While your book certainly is very thorough about the Marines' battle in Nasiriyah, to say that it has the complete story on Jessica Lynch's captivity is not accurate. Keep looking, if you want to tell that real story.....trust me, there are people who know a lot more about this.....and the murder of US POW's like Lori Ann Piestewa.
