We started off by camping for 3 nights at CANYON CAMPGROUND. This place was excellent, inexpensive and relatively close to Lamar valley. We chose this place as it was close to most of the activities on the north side and also close to Lamar Valley where we went every morning before sunrise to catch the sunrise and wild animals.
Tip: the water in these toilets are FREEZING even n summer and at noon! Be prepared
@drhawk100 We then moved to CANYON LODGE just across the road for a night. For a break from camping. Was good. Next we moved to the south and stayed at OLD FAITHFUL LODGE cabins. We took the cabins with shared showers and toilets. Its basically a cabin with a sink. And a central showers cabin which was a minute away. We stayed here for a night and then moved to GRANT CAMPGROUND for a couple of nights.
@drhawk100 Here we had miserable time with the cold. It dropped almost to 30 F degrees (in peak summer) , that is below 0 Celsius at night and we hadn't gone prepared for that kind of cold. And this is right next to a huge lake which made things colder.
@drhawk100 So we cut short the stay by one night and moved to OLD FAITHFUL INN. This was an absolutely awesome place. We took a room without private bathroom. But the room was lovely built with wooden logs and gave us a very cozy feeling. It was 95$ per night and the showers was just down the hallway. The Old Faithful inn visit is a must. It's a beautiful piece of architecture and they have live artist playing a piano and a live-in artist painting away in the lobby.
@drhawk100 All of these accommodations are managed by Xanterra. They are excellent and they didn't charge us cancellation fees & refunded fully. A small tip, if the type of accommodation you're looking for is full, keep trying as spots open up rapidly.
@drhawk100 Good luck and I'm sure you'll have a great time in this wonderful place. Just try to get up before sunrise and drive to Lamar valley. It WILL be worth every second you spend groaning while getting up in the cold ! Speaking from personal experience
