  • Fuck! He roolz.

  • What fingering!

  • @zolochnaya Thats what she said.

  • What fingering! (I am Elzbieta52 but my PC crashed and when I tried to sign in as usual youtube wouldn't let me, so here's ma noo name!

  • What fingering!

  • ....quando morì il mio cane giurai che non avrei più pianto e così feci, fino al funerale di mio padre. Li ressi bene, quasi fino all'ultimo.

  • @Bostikkina ....very touching....auguri ed un abbracio...from Henry

  • Not even Heifetz could equate to his epic energy when playing this

  • 10:02 Shostakovich

  • He is certainly one for correct note values.

  • He is certainly one for correct note value.

  • This is wonderful conducting too!

  • Grandioso concierto. Gracias a Dios por la vida de David Oistrakh.

  • Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

  • the master no other words are necessary

  • This is Old School! Finesse, power, and majesty! Definitive Tchaikovsky.

  • Deliciously brilliant!

  • Oh my favorite! I can't imagine there're people on the earth who don't like this.

  • This is like violin on steroids.

  • You can hear EVERY note of every arpeggio! STUPENDOUS!

  • Oistrakh still is the beast, the best

  • I grew up with renditions by Fransescatti and Stern. I've listened to Perlman, Heifetz, Grumiaux, Mutter, and others. I watched Ilka Talvi tear it up from the front row.

A leading critic of the day, Eduard Hanslick, said "the violin was not played, but beaten black and blue", and that this third movement was "odorously Russian."

Of all of them, I believe Oistrakh saw Hanslick's critique more as a compliment, to which his response here is "Okay kids, let me show you how it's done."

  • Simplemente: ¡¡¡Maravilloso!!!

  • Well. 16 out of 1013 people who vote in youtube are terrible to judge music... you know, statistically.

  • This really is an astounding performance. His technique fabulous, the interpretation beautiful and exciting. I think I may have written this before but someone asked about the conductor..? It's Gennady Rozhdensvensky. Look up his performance of Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony on here. And yes, that IS Shostakovich at 10:13. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • it`s true

  • Look at the bow in 4.30 and on!!! What an effortlessness, what a perfection!!! Great Oistrakh, I take a bow to you!!!!

  • Is it me ,or we can see chostakovitch in 10:03 ?

  • @loboris1995 Yep, that's him.

  • You can hear every note he plays. I was grinning like an idiot this entire video.

  • Best arpeggios in the universe!

  • Thank you so much, Mr OISTRAKH!

  • CONSIDER THAT IT IS A LIVE PERFOMANCE... ALL ON THE STAGE MAKING THEIR FINEST BEST IN A HISTORICAL MANIFESTATION(SIC!) OF TSCHAIKOWSKY'S CONCERTO. IT COULD NEVER BE MORE PERFECT!!!

  • UN- Beleeeevable!

  • speachless.

  • One can hear every single note! A MASTER, and absolute MASTER.

  • David Oistrach on -Korol !!!!!!!!

  • David Oistrach on -Korol !!!!!!!!

  • I lost the game ....... (!) ;D

  • All those who like this concerto should watch the movie "The Concert" directed by Radu Mihaileanu, which is both funny and moving.

  • I am not a big Tchaikovsky fan . . . not really a fan of the Romantic era (though I love Dvorak) . . . but this! This piece of music . . . and particularly this performance . . . is every bit as brilliant as the best of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven or any other composer past or present!! This is musical perfection . . . My God! What must it feel like to step back and see that you have created something like this . . . pure beauty . . . pure music . . . Incredible!

  • There is a certain sadness to this, all other music becomes meaningless...

  • lol sarah chang must have made 15 accounts just to dislike this video

  • @SueTheMoon

    lmao

  • his fingers on his bow are absolutely untouchable

  • amazing bowing! I stand in awe watching this from a computer screen haha.

  • Brilliant. I had the old vinyl of this and was thrilled that there was a video of it. Thanks for uploading it. The man is absolutely astounding. This movement is very difficult to perform, and his crispness of attack, clarity of attack, and emotional maturity just makes it the best interpretation I have ever heard.

  • HIS CHEEKS! Awesome performance!

  • Wow doesnt get much better than that!!!

  • I love his face giggle through out the movements. sigh... i wish these little things stayed the same, instead of being over done *COUGH COUGH* joshua bell *COUGH COUGH*

  • SOOO clean

  • @eeuzzy Yes!!!!!

  • grandissime Oistrakh! un pur bonheur...!

  • The best intrepetation of the third mouvement I never saw

  • haha ooh poor old shostakovich.. even after that amazing performance he still cant bring himself to smile :)

  • what a public! shostakovich himself!!

  • I have listened to many violinist playing Tchaikovsky concerto 3rd mov. for

months. Despite some little strange notes, I must say Oistrakh 's performance is the best I have ever seen.

  • haha! i'm learning this! Fantastic concerto XD

  • The best ever

  • Thank you sooo much for uploading this. Thank God music is what brings us all together.

  • memorable though as his student says, 'what about the spiccato? edeann

  • Does anyone know where how I can download this music for free? Like I want it to be in the DavidOistrakh version.

  • Oistrakh, the greatest violinist of his time bar none! The most soulful, dramatic and sensitive violinist and the greatest interpreter of Russian composers, especially Shostakovich who is shown applauding at the end of this clip!

  • Although OIstrakh's playing is brilliant, I prefer Perlman's interpretation; I get this weird feeling that Oistrakh's playing is too... heavy??? Don't get me wrong, they are both masters but, perlman is more playful

  • @awesomejo1 but Oistrakh plays more "russian"..

  • That was Shostakovitch standing ovation at the end of the performance. WOW! That is what a I call a pleasant surprise.

  • 7:22 what happens?! it sounds very strange!

  • @EmaMozart It's what happens when the violin's bow loses its grip on the string. Violinists usually put rosin on the bow to avoid this, but it can wear off towards the end of a performance (especially a demanding one such as this one).

  • fantastic

  • who is he playing with? what is the orchestra?

  • @hmmmmusic The Moscow Symphony Orchestra, directed by Gennady Rozhdestvensky. It was a special concert given in september 1968 in honor of Oistrakh's 60th birthday (which explains the flowers and the presence of Shostakovich and a few other luminaries in the audience)

  • Absolutely brilliant! What a fiddler!

  • es una lastima que apartir del min 8:37 no acerquen la camara al violin para ver como toca....¬¬

  • the best violinist ever, next to Kogan, Sitkovetsky, and other sovietic violinists. They are great. This recording is one of my favorit!

  • It's not even fair. No young violinist should be subjected to this monument. They may never recover.

  • @MikeDrewYT Well, they should so that they can aspire to a greater performance and, during their lives, perhaps equal or at least come close to it.

  • Oistrakh can bring out the inherent rhythms in the third movement like no other.

  • Hasta Shostakovich se rindió a sus pies!!

  • Heifetz has beautiful fingering but Oistrakh is a master of the bow!

  • He paints this concerto, gives it light and shade and depth and OMG - now I can hear why my Dad (a violinist) was so crazy about Oistrakh.

  • Bravo!!! Bravo!!! BRAVO!!!!!! *tear*

  • Listen to Elman/Barbirolli, 1929 posted on YT for the ultimate recording of this work. Oistrakh plays it better than Heifetz, more emotional.

  • I have been inspired by this recording since I was a child, thanks so much for publishing.

  • carolyn lee's is better.

  • at 1:54 the note is pretty out of tune

    haha

but he is still my favorite violinist

    his tone is amazing

  • @danglitis3113 Yak, that is out of tune. Poor lil A, all sad and weird-sounding.

  • @aneres8888 ...no

  • i absolutly love this peice! I'm actually working on it right now for this thing i'm going to do but I'll probably never sound like THIS!! Its amazing!! Anyway, people who are watching this please go and watch my vids!! Comment and subscribe!! (and only good or critical comments please!!??)

  • There maybe several violinists who play equally well as Oistrakh, but what impressed me most is how natural Oistrakh plays - looking at the bowing, the freemoving neck, relax, while manificant music is flowing out....

  • it's weird, watching this and keeping in mind that this is the most technical piece ever written for violin, and if you can play it...crazy.

  • ******

  • 10.05 Shostakovich!

  • Oistrakh speaks the Tshaikowsky language like nobody else.

  • @raoultak Absolutely. And the Brahms lexicon too!

  • @raoultak hmmm... this probably doesn't have anything to do with it, but maybe cos they'e both russian???

  • OUTSTANDING!!!! I'M SO EXCITED!

  • 00:52

    Best moment ever

  • I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on this violin training program? It's put out by a violin teacher named Eric Lewis. I was given a violin for christmas and was given a stupid book that I can't figure out. Looking forward to your comments: Here is the link I found on google:w w w (dot) getgoodreviews (dot) com/go/violin_lessons (dot) php

  • @aaron3325 Get a proper violin teacher!

  • Beatifull, Wonderfull,..................my god, this is incredible

  • I love playing the piano but this is what makes me want to play violin.

  • My favorite version; 6.56 = out of this world beautiful!!!

  • Its like playing with a Dinky-toy, so easy it sounds. Its like God got to his emotions, so profound this sounds. And on top of this, Oistrakhs charisma and conspiracy to Tchaikovsky makes him the total master of this piece. So awesome.... is there any better? Yes, there is... just listen again and again....it gets even better.

  • This is one of my all-time favourites. This is just ... I can't even speak of how beautiful this is to me.

  • AMAZING!!! Superb in every detail! Velikoj chelovek, grandioznyj Artist! King David!

  • That bow looks like it can slice through some pretty thick material when Oistrakh plays

  • Spectacular! Truly the best. Thanks for the video.

  • il + grande di tutti i tempi, grande David

  • sorry to those who disagree, but i say this is the best rendition/performance of this concerto to date.

  • I disagree.

  • well i guess i'm sorry then

    who do you prefer?

  • I mean, it's a great interpretation but you must listen Leonid Kogan. Oistrakh it's excellent at his style but with Kogan you shit on your pants, literally.

  • umm alright...i'll listen and i'll be sure to tell you if i shit my pants.... O_o

  • I think Kogan has a cleaner performance, but it's harder to hear the solo lines in his recording. Either this orchestra balances better or Oistrahk just has a stronger sound.

  • ¿? Did u listen the version with Silvestri ?¿

  • No, I don't think so. Is it much different?

  • @happybunny213250 Definitely.

  • I agree!

  • its funny when people comment who have no idea what they are talking about.

  • Hum...you are the one who sucks...in case you haven´t realize that for yourself...Yeah....sometimes the stupid people even need some help too...

  • bravissimo bravissimo!!!!!!!! =D n_n

  • Oistrakh owns this piece

    Milstein comes very close though
