@ruger204able the ridge is a genetic defect and it isn't supposed to even be there. But because no one likes these beautiful dogs without the ridge (like your self), greedy, sick breeders breed two parents who both have the defect and so all the pups have the defect. What people dont know is that rr's born with the ridge are very prone to dermoid sinus, which is fatal. rr's without the ridge Do not have the dermoid sinus gene.

@mike123asd I didn't know that it was a genetic disease because every rhodesian ridgeback i have met/seen all have the ridge, and so I thought it was normal. I have never even heard about it being bad for the dogs and causing (often?) DS. This was the first time I have heard about the ridge being bad for the rr's. So i'm sorry for presenting myself as stupid but I don't know a lot about the Ridgebacks..... But yes know that i know about it I agree with you and think it's sick. ;)

this is what the breed is all about, if you watch the video the dog is very protective of the infant and want's to make sure that the child is ok, these are the best dogs that i have ever come in contact with, i own a RR and harley is my life, they are very caring and know when you are hurt. THEY WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN....

Had my Ridgeback for 13 years. Got him when he was 7 weeks old. Best friend I ever had. He went everywhere with me back in my roaming days. Now I live in the city and doubt I'll ever get another. I used to work at a cattle ranch in Northern, AZ so ''Booner'' had room to run. He never wore a leash nor was he ever chained up. My 86 year old grandma called him the ''gentle giant'' but by then he was gettin pretty old. I miss him.

Festerine Fiesta - until you have a Ridgeback of your own, you don't know. These dogs really think! They actually assess a situation before reacting. They are one of the most intelligent breeds out there.

To RidgebackLea - this dog will watch over your child like it was his own. A truly trustworthy, brave, loyal and gentle dog. Great choice! Give him a hug for me?? I miss mine so much, after 9 years I still cry for him.

ive got a bull mastiff cross rhodesian ridgeback as a companion/guard dog for my family, she's slotted in great with three cats three chooks and my 4yo male Golden Retriever, ive trained her heavily and she will happily walk with and take commands from my 4yo daughter and 2yo son. she is the gentlest most loving animal (having her from 6 wks and growing up with a placid Goldie might have helped!!)....she is now 2yo and 48kg. will ONLY bite on command and she wont break skin, just takes you down
