  • this was another great show I remember trippin hard and peakin during the dew

  • When we walked out of the Spectrum on this night we couldn't tell which one was Halley's Comet!!

  • before the coma

  • You used to be able to hear a pin drop in the venue at the beginning of the ending crescendo when they played this. I remember seeing this at Giant's Stadium once and you could hear a whisper among 70,000 people. Tremendous experience.

  • This song always sends shivers down my spine and tears to my eyes

  • Yep I was there..I think....I was thinking about "ALL THE PEOPLE" That would be in the mic section and before that they were all over the place, But this was a boot video and in 86 the cameras were still pretty big....However a shout out to all the Tappers if not for you guys/gals we wouldn't have so much variety of Dead to listen to.....Thanks and keep at it 2011 and Further.

  • Best. Clip. Ever.

    Ever.

    Don't Argue.

    Stop.

    Best ever.

    Air Jerry!

  • god! this good concert was when I was born march 24th 1986

  • Jerry had the right, painful voice for this great song. wow. Gonna ck out the Jeff Beck version now.

  • Jerry had the right voice for this great song. wow.

  • they were the best ever

  • Check out the Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Morning Dew, I love the Dead, and the Beck Stewart version is hotttt too!

  • Ohhhhhhh Yeaaaaaa, there it is !!!! A minute in now, and all I can say is thank you OP for posting !

  • pure drivel, even more boring than the robert plant version and that's going some.

  • thumbs up if the opening riff, just makes you happy :)

  • beautiful times, beautiful memories, shows us what is possible. remember to imagine. imagination nation. WE ARE ONE!

  • i think i was at this show. a beautiful song and a beautiful memory dosed1

  • Can't help but tear up every time I hear this most beautiful song.... The World was a much better place with Jerry on it........................... Nothing against Bobby, Phil, Mickey, Bill, Brent , Keith, Pigpen, ... Captain O' Captain.

  • wow my birthday and the year i was born

  • Whoever posted this, thank you, it was quite possibly one of the most mind opening experiences that I can recall in my entire life and in fact explains it all. My only wish is that those in power and control could drop a hit of acid and awaken and start to LOVE ONE ANOTHER!!! I welcome the mergings of the dimensions as we are all ONE! I AM THE LIGHT.

  • Thank you thank you tha----WHY IS THERE AN ICE CREAM CONE STICKING OUT OF MY FOREHEAD? hey now, aiko aiko

  • @HairPeaceNow too cool him down

  • @CaptainShays I hope so

  • Was there, blew my mind...................

  • phenomenal... 5 dislikes must be justin beiber fans

  • Kleinrocks youre talking out of your butt. Roses original is great but the GD take it somewhere else. Bit like Hendrixs "All along the watchtower" gave emotional depth to Dylans song

  • Comment removed

  • These guys pale into insignificance when compared to Rose's orignal version. A collection of young pretenders.

  • Fire...from start to finish. Philly lovin it

  • RIP JErry Garcia

  • This is the best Dew by far!! Seen many shows and I still get chills at the end!! Jerry lights it up!! Great memories!! Thanks

  • @XxMke1127Xx Mike. You bet it was the best of all. I have seen over 200 shows and that show was amazing! Garcia literally squeezed tears from my eyes.....again

  • yeah, horrible quality

    toward the climax, but raging!

  • sweet morning dew one of my favs

  • Beautiful! Check out John Baldry's versions.

  • Beautiful! Thank you for posting this.

  • Jerry please help us get rid of lil wayne!!! and the rest of em at that

  • Took my brother to this show ... his first. I remember looking over at him and watching him being amazed... I miss those days!!!

  • GOOD MORNIN' !!! :o))) <3 <3 <3

  • I was there - I took one of my best show bros for his first show - we have talked to each other every day on our anniversary - It was quite a bromance -

  • great song thx Jerry for many years of music!

  • It was so cool! After '85 Garcia started bringing out their signature tunes--New Speedway Boogie--I can't remember--but the signature tunes he didn't do for years.Death Don't Have No Mercy(later). Garcia changed after '85 and I don't mean his "near death" experence. He started to groove again before he went down. Man, he was so sick. They forced him to play. They worked him to death. Not letting him play smaller venues. Not one person went to visit him in the hospital.Parasites

  • Meadowlands, '85 summer, I believe, MAYBE '86. We were talking to some people that followed The Dead up the East Coast(don't remember if the band played in Florida, while coming up the coast) but the guy I was with could ALWAYS call what The Dead would open with, 1st or 2nd set. It was just a phenomena my guy had.So he told these people The Dead woul open the 2nd set w/ Miss.1/2 Step.Boy,did they come down on him!He was NEVER WRONG! They opened w/1/2 Step, 2nd set.Folks BLOWN OUT by it

  • You don't want us to Throw the set Away?

Fine, we won't Throw it Away!

In the words of perhaps the greatest Prophtizer of our time:

    SICK!!!!!!!!

  • The Philly Spectrum was a great performance venue for the Dead.

  • I remember this as one of the last great shows of '86 before Jerry decended into that awful summer haze... Who knew what lay ahead in '87 - '90 ? I miss you every day, Jerry...

  • Truly a rip roaring ending...would have been a good one to be at....watch Bobby doing the windmill at the end. Good stuff....

  • 200 ?

  • there's nothing like coming off of Space with an awesome Morning Dew!

  • one of the last truely great jam bands....along with ABB, RIP Duane and Gerry.

  • I was at this one - it was one of my first Dead shows ever. Thank you so much for posting!

  • This evening in '86, and a night in '84 in Augusta ME...best Morning Dew in the 90+ shows that I was fortunate enough to see...

  • The Philly and Meadowland shows rocked. Philly security for tickets were jerks for this one. A bunch of goons harrassing for no good reason. Went out of their way to harrass the crowd for fun. Losers.

  • I was there for this show, miss you Barb, Tracie, Amy and Jimmy.. Always yours, Don Lamb

  • Morning dew is the name of a bowl that i own

  • It is a great song on L

  • @rudyj2 Not. It has to do with total destruction of the world! Radiation Baby!!

  • Amazing!!! Definitely one of my favs!

  • jerrys the man

  • I love Morning Dew and it's great to hear an enthusiastic audience and i appreciate it being shared but regret to say that this recording does not have enough base for me. Though it's a jerry song, phil needs to be heard.......no monster base comes through on my headphones and that means it does not reflect the true sound that is essential to this song .....saw my first spectrum show in spring 1977.....dead dominated that facilty....

  • EPIC.

  • I was there and strangely I remember the whole show even under the influence of a 3 letter substance

85,86 brought out some of the best Dews ever

  • A BAD TRIP

  • Seeing the Dead play this song live could turn the most skeptical non-believer into a life-long Deadhead.

  • lil feedback, but he was still feel....

  • nothing left to do but...

  • Booze is a drug. There are many drugs that are much closer to booze in their impact than they are to other so-called drugs.

Booze is much more like the opiates than any of them are like acid or coke.

  • you are very right.

  • Jerry at his best.

  • Holy shit!

  • Killer,

We all have our time and it needs to be enjoyed. Jerry is enjoying it here, and this vision will last forever.

    have some fun

  • Well this version really great, but quite the best is that from Nazareth

  • alcohol is a drug lmao

  • It is a psychoactive, but so is caffeine.

  • this is a slamin version makes me cry though i named my daughter cassidy(r.i.p) she had time for one dream when jerry says thought i heard a baby cry ................................... well u all get it 2 beutiful songs at least i know she is up threr as a back up angel miss them both

  • r.i.p Cassidy

  • @dosed1dosed1000 rest easy cassidy. Back in 02 I buried a wife and daughter of 22 months and had a buddy do a good acoustic "Brokedown Palace" but I want "dew" played at mine. Its tough and we dont always understand at the time, but there will come a point when you realize the only road to where you are is the one you took. With love and sincerity, Jason

  • @dosed1dosed1000 I am really sorry for your loss. I lost my brother, who was with me at all the Vegas shows. The song He's Gone makes me cry. take care:)

  • @powderskier71 thank you sorry for your loss also may the four winds blow us safely home till we see our loved ones again peace my brother

  • @dosed1dosed1000 WTTPB

  • Just brought a tear to me eye. What a great version of Morning dew! Thanks for posting this.

  • Great version but I don't find on youtube the superb Allman's version of Morning Dew... I have on an old vinyl... nobody can put it on youtube?

Is a wonderful version... my favourite version...

  • If anyone has seen my composure, please send it home. I'll need it tomorrow. Oh, Thank Go...

  • fucking amazing!

  • How many times did I wait in line all day, to be first inside to stand in my spot in front of Jerry (I mean directly in front of Jerry!)? Over 100 anyway. I can't hear no baby cry today.

  • hahahahha your an idiot man.. piggy was the one who never did drugs.. he tripped on acid once when jerry slipped him one without piggy knowing and he was pissed.. as trey would say.. READ A FUCKING BOOK

  • @cklein121 He tripped many more times then once in the mid sixties, you are right though he didn't like drugs. the time you are referring to is the last time he did it. the one where someone in the bands crew slipped it to him. Jerry didn't slip it to him. Pigpen couldn't go onstage. Jerry was furious because Pig was not into it and was having a bad trip and no one would own up to it

  • F%$# whacks it.........

    muchos garcias

  • That was the best line-up. Brent on keys, not PigPen, Godchaux, Welnick. Just my opinion, please don't kill me.

  • @GraachAhim I agree with you. Godchaux nodded off too much

  • i agree. keith only played piano. pig was awesome in the early days but didn't develop with the band and was dope sick. welnick just sucked. brent and bruce were the best keyboardist in my opnion.

  • what do you mean when you say pigpen was 'dope sick'? you really prefer 80's dead to 70's dead? that's kind of ridiculous.

  • Dope sick as in his bodily organ were shutting down due to heroin addiction and excessive alchohol use. I like every period of GD but accept each for what it's worth. However, I stand by my statement that Brent was the most talented keyboardest with Tom Constantein being the exception to that rule.

  • i didn't know he used heroin.

  • Yes. Back then nobody else in the band did though. Pig was overweight in the 60's and skinny as a rail in the 70's. After Europe '72 he was too sick to perform and died a few months after that. Brilliant bluesman gone too soon.

  • That's because he didn't use heroin. He drank, heavily, for years and that was the prime contributor to his early death.

  • Thank you! I hate when people talk about what they dont know...

  • Pig did not use heroin.

  • Hey man I love Pig but it's documented. Read Phil's book "Searching For The Sound". The irony is that Jerry started using casually right after Pig died.

  • Regardless... drinking is still the reason for his death. He will be missed R.I.P. Pig and Jerry. We love you more than you could ever know!

  • @boseffis favorite show might change your mind-cornell 77 its under free stash on nugsnet

  • @GraachAhim Saw them at the Spectrum in'88. Love the '80's lineup.

  • @GraachAhim Great parkinglot scene too. The Philly Eagles were playing next door and all the football freaks came out and partied with us . Good harmony!.

  • love

  • Spectacular Stellar Unadulterated Bliss The Grateful Dead

  • Goodbye Spectrum......such memories.

  • I loved the Spectrum! I think the longest show ever played was there.

  • I have seen over 200 shows and out of them numerous Morning Dews. Without a doubt this was THE finest of them all. Thank you for posting this.

  • @CaptainShays I was there. Did you make this one?

    Greg

  • @gregoryjamesaustin I was at that show and it meant a lot to me. I was going through a nasty divorce at the time and the ex wouldn't let me see my kids. I eventually wound up with custody of them but for two years Jerry and the boys got me through the toughest time in my life. That Dew squeezed tears from my eyes that night. Thank you Uncle Jerry. I miss you so much.

  • @CaptainShays what makes it one of the finest?the emotion?

  • @womenrsmarter420 It was the way they built up to it again and again. It was also very clean and crisp. YES the emotion. Not only my own but the band's too. They always played great at the Philly Spectrum and that show was epic as far as I'm concerned. Garcia wailed but the band was extra ordinarily tight.

  • @CaptainShays yeah no one has yet to come close to jerry but hopefully before we die we'll catch the next grate jam man no 1 does it like jerry 2 me ya know(well yeah actually u do 200+ )unfortunately i didnt jump on board till 92 at the age of 17 until highgate and the meadowlands 95.

  • @womenrsmarter420 I was at those shows. Saw a beautifull rainbow walking in. Jumped for joy then nearly broke my ankle when I landed. Will never forget it. I danced the whole time with a screwed up ankle. There will never be another Jerry. Maybe we'll see him again in Heaven

  • @CaptainShays love the stories i was crackin up readin your post could picture it happening...your ankle must've been swollen for a week???grate stuff capt

  • A miracle

  • you said it bro!saw the dead many times when jerry was alive.amazing!

  • Nobody will ever finish a song the way Garcia did , unreal!!

  • i indeed was born too late... wish i could have seen jerry, at any point in his career. RIP Jerry.

  • jealous of my dad

  • Red shirt came about after his drug bust in GG Park in late 1984.

1985 in the Red Shirt was one of the most ripping GD years of all time, every show is worth a listen.

I remember! RIP to the late legend, Jerry Garcia!

  • This is making my morning.

  • Was lucky enough to be in the taper's pit for this one.

The Dew was the first tune out of space, and it ended the show! Don't think that ever happened before or after that show. They had blown a whole in the fabric of the night and it was time to just put down the instruments. They did a quick Midnight hour afterwards for an encore and everybody went home blown away.

Love how Jerry works the feedback into that first solo. What a shred!

  • God i miss JG. sick dew version. brings tears of sadness and joy

  • mountin fuck dew every time JUICE GUARANTEED...... I CAN'T WALK YOU OUT IN THE MORNING DEW MY honey> a lot of us saw the boys few heard a DEW

  • I miss Jerry ...

  • This is one of those songs where they better be on to nail it, and boy oh boy, were they ever on here! Epic.

  • this song gives me goosebumps every time. It fits Jerry perfectly!

  • I hear you, got the gb's right now

  • Saw at least 50 shows between 81-85 this defintely is one video I keep coming back too.

  • luckly man

  • lucky one

  • Theres no need for you to be worryin about all those people.

  • ...well not this particular show, but the song...

  • This could be one of their earliest covers...Definitely one of their earliest non-blues covers

  • (Where are youuuu nephew Neil???) :P

  • where have all the people gone to my honey?

  • lol

  • magical.....

  • goose bumps :)

  • We never see those people anyway

  • food water air and the dead

  • can somebody tell me about 'trouble ahead, jerry in red'.

I've heard it a few times, what is it?

  • just the red shirt - jerry was always known for years for wearing a black t-shirt - somewhere around '85-'86 he started occasionally wearing a red one, which usually turned out to be a smoking hot show (not that they all weren't, but you know...)

  • Holy sh*t........ concise, intense, and brilliant. Incredible, and the crowd knows it. I was living near Philly at the time but missed this, must have gone to another night of the run. But here it is now. :-)

  • every couple of weeks i find myself.........................just kidding i find myself listening to this paticular version..miss ya jerry

  • I love 70's dead and miss the donna and keith years but bye far this is my favorite dew

  • One love! Sweet!!

  • Amazing. Thank you for posting this.

  • This is probably the greatest version I´ve heard of this fabulous song. And I always assumed 80´s Dead was inferior to 60´s and 70´s Dead . . .

  • 80's dead is tops

  • no 77 and 78 were the golden years

  • Typical man Jerry bringing the house down.

  • Jerry gives me goosebumps.

  • finaly someone who understands

  • finally :]

  • I thought that this song was from a book written by an author by the name of Nevil Shute titled " On The Beach" . I guess it doesnt matter anyway. Love the song!!!

  • Hi trey, you could be right but that's my recollection on who authored it. If you want to see the movie, watch "On the Beach" (2 versions) 0ne made in the 60's, the other in the 90's, the later is more graphic and well-done and it's a living nightmare. This is probably the saddest song I've ever heard. Hope I didn't ruin your day. Bummer, man. Peace.

  • Its a humbling thing about eternal love.

  • it was written by a Canadian singer/songwriter named Bonnie Dobson...

  • actually written by a Canadian Songwriter Bonnie Dobson after seeing "On the Beach"

  • I was at these shows in Phila! My friends and I never missed an opportunity to see the Grateful Dead when they were in town! It was always a memorable experience to hear the best jam band the world has every heard!

  • excellent!! was at this show -- oddly was also right around this angle -- this Dew closed a SHORT set with (a High Time) and we are all wtf? Jerome and Brent were on fire plainly - then they came out with a mid tempo Midnight Hour encore so- so // best 80's Dew -- Hampton Roads 4-14-84 that one will really steal your face!!

  • It is the rarest of occurences when you hear a crowd as loud as one at a Dead show. Seger in Detroit (only) comes to mind, and that's about it.

  • Philly phans.

  • Comment removed

  • i saw them in 1981, omg, can u beleave this, he only has 3 fingers, nice playing jerry :)

  • When Jerry died, Rolling Stone did an entire tribute edition. Paul Kantner of the Jefferson Airplane called Garcia a Christian troubador, or something like that. The Dead hated to be labeled as anything but crazy, but I suspect Jesus and Jerry are jammin' these days while the rest of us sit down here complaining about our secular discomforts. Jesus said he was The Light, and I dare say this music is the sound of light, so maybe there's more to the connection than meets the "I."

  • yeah i know highway meant for your steps alone, fountain?..it's been a long time..listen to Supertramp//Even in The Quietest Moments...

"Everyone was laughing, until the day He died, His wounds run deep, but still he's calling..us out of our sleep, my friend you're not alone..

he waits in silence to call us all HOMEEE...?

The Holy Spirit speaks everywhere, if You listen.

the cool thing is God(being in our minds)has no problem forgiving us, judging us, or condemning..He is Us...the whole time

  • come hear Uncle Johns(john the baptist?) band, playing thru the night,.....he's come to take his children home...10/22/89..the force was strong..Jerry was like a prophet, singing the voice of God...after the show I met a man with a black dog, lingering in a culvert,..

and hades was written above Him..

i said to him"it seems there something special going on here tongiht"

he said the connection was very strong..it will be even stronger in Florida...

    God spoke thru Jerry...

  • let's see..10/22/89 Charlotte...

ripples in still water, there is no pebble tossed, no wind did blow..if you hear my voice, coming thru the music, perhaps my words are better left unsung, but let it be known , there is a highway, that was not made by the hands of men.

A box of rain(holy spirit) will ease the pain, and love will see you thru.. if your cup be full, may it be again..let me show you how it's gonna be, when you give your love to me..my love's for real, not a fadeaway...listen...

  • i always hear this as a song Jesus Christ sang to Mary......

can't walk you out, thot i heard a baby cry this morning, heard a young man moan today, where have all the people gone...there's no need for you to be worrying about all those people...

  • what the hell did jesus have to do with the dead. stfu

  • yeah, seriously

    <
