Just a note, the wonder for the Turk is not the Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul but rather the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, Turkey which was the masterpiece of the great Ottoman Architect Sinan.
Only the Selimiye Mosque has minarets around the structure of the Mosque. The Suleymaniye Mosque's design is quite different.
To the people complaining that a wonder belongs in another country, remember that ancient civilizations could have stretched to a far greater land area than what it holds today, so some wonders belong to another country today (physically at least), due to the simple fact that civilizations flourish and die. A thousand years from now, power could fluctuate even more rapidly. For some reason, I fear to know what the map will look like then.
@Alchemisterius Still, I mean they found space for bloody Aztecs and they didnt find space for Russia or Poland? I don't know, maybe the developers were racist and hated Slavic nations?
@Bonde2002 nobody. after the islamic arab conquest is was used as mosque but gradually abandoned. it is made of bricks, not stone and the harsh wind eroded it. finally a flood destroyed 1 third of the palace in 1900
@gustano123 Read a little more about gothic architecture and you'll see that most cathedrals built at that time look alike because most of them have the same architectural elements....Yeah it looks like Notre-Dame de Paris, but it is not.
@gustano123 well, even if the in-game structure looks very similar to Prague's Cathedral, there's indeed no association between this building and the franks, except of course that these people perfected Gothic architecture (and I might be wrong here; after all, countries and kingdoms had changed a lot, and what it is today's Prague may had been under french rule at some point in history, but they certainly didn't construct this Cathedral) . In my opinion, the french wonder is Chartres Cathedral
@MightOfCologne because a church itself is christian. And your talking about the earlier Vikings from the 9th-10th century, those were heathen. Later on they were converted to christainity and made a viking church.
@Komnenit You are right! It's situated in Guatemala rather close to the border to Belize. I've actually been there and it's called "The Great Jaguar Temple"
@crikvenicabiel No, no, no! That cathedral had it's two side peaks thingies different hights, As you can see by the wonder, the two side things are the same hight.
Why giving der Aachener Dom to the British when the have wonderful cathedral as Lincoln, York or Canterbury? I found that the Frank cathedral was an imitation of Chartres, even if it's not wonderful....
Well galishrenata good video but you made a mistake that actually nobody can avoid! Agia Sofia was without the minarets! Now the real challenge would be to go to Constantinople (which is the actual name of instabul), destroy the minarets and THEN take the picture again!!!
@xxpbdudexx Nah, they are probably the best offensive civilisation in the game together with the mongols. Those barracks can make units so quickly and they're cheap too. And goths got hand cannonneers and bombard cannons etc, their defence is just the worst in the game :p
Civ 5 made a mistake when modeling the Hagia Sofia wonder video; putting minarets as part of the initial construction when in fact they were added after Islamic conquest. Good to see AoE 2 actually following the course of history.
Did you travel the whole world to get photos like this? anyways, no matter the means, your video is so awesome (and thanks for explaining who built these wonders and where and what are they now)! :-D
OH YEAH I LOVED YOUR VIDEO. JUST AS I WANTED IT. YOU PUT THE TUNE OF EVERY CIVILIZATION, THE WONDER AS APPEAR IN THE GAME, AND IN THE WONDER AS THE REAL LIFE. I CONGRATULATE YOU!!!!!!!! ; )
@GothicKnight2 Hence why it should be the Frankish wonder...the Franks used the Prague cathedral...very historically accurate. Not to mention that the Korean wonder was actually built by the Japanese.
lol in the game, you see the buildings and you're like, okay cool. But now, looking at the actual building, you kind of feel sorry for the villagers who built that, because those are some pretty complex/ big buildings!
I was disappointed that, unlike in newer RTS games, the wonders didn't give you special bonuses. For example, the Aztecs could get Montezuma's Revenge, which gives all enemy units a 20% movement rate penalty until the wonder is destroyed.
@MajkeTiTvoje aye! i agree with you but they can really only meant to destroy buildings. i once sent like 60 tarkens in battle and all died. (they were versing cavaliers). but i very well agree ith u on no houses. that is amazing
And to think, if an opponent builds one of these, the only way to not lose is to smash apart a national treasure, or what is known as a "UNESCO World Heritage" site.
@Deathm3t4l95 Well the name really speaks for itself, its a "tent", not a building. Khan used it to rest before conquest,. That thing was so big that they didn't even bother packing it, just strap the oxen, and on with the bloodshed. If it were really a building then people would fly to see it.Today, there are only replicas.
@Racoon42a Russians were really inspired by Varyags (Viking Tribe), after the fall of Eastern Rome, which is why the Old Russian buildings and village buildings looked familiar to Viking structures. Only after Rurik, did achievements start to come about.
The viking church is actually a model of many of the old churces back in the days.
