I think it needs to be abolished simply because Columbus DID NOT discover the Americas anyway & they need to rewrite the history books to not credit him with that. I also think you can credit the Catholic church with plundering this land, robbing the native people of their religion, language & land ...so while we are at it remove the missions too! @vascoDG1498 haha more like mass murderers. Hitler was a military brilliant. That doesnt mean we have to celebrate the barbaric nature of his existence. Just like columbus. Besides, its well documented that columbus lost many ships. Literally lost them at sea. Secondly, he happened to run into an island, not "discover" (which he happen to think was India) So much for great explorer. HAHA

La Rasa or whatever actually happened 9,000 years ago when the mongoloid natives mixed with caucasoid natives if you want to think about it like that. Its been proven that there was an ice bridge the connected Europe to N. American before the pacific land bridge but only last 1/3 the amount of time. Skulls, genetics, paintings, spearpoint technology and even Native Americans have stories and paintings of white people being here. Your racist Natives cover up facts to secure political weight.
If you hate Columbus why do you refer to yourself as Indian? It's is widely known that our culture in the states only calls Native Americans "Indians" because Columbus thought he was in India when he had seen them. Do you call Inuits eskimos too?
Columbus was a visionary and yes, he was a man of his times...we should not focus , however,on his so called faults, but rather embrace his accomplishments... he was a great leader who knew how to handle a variety of difficult personalities...he was determined enough to see his theory through...in addition, his skills as a mariner were unsurpassed...he opened up new ideas (food, customs, medicine)between the Americas and Europe... I will always celebrate Colubus Day proudly.
Okay, I think it's a little bit much for you to be called an evil person because you admire Columbus...but the man encouraged slave trade and introduced diseases (if unintentionally) which killed countless natives. It's one thing to admire his feats, but it's completely another to IGNORE the other side of his actions.
It can be argued that every single leader in history has two sides. We should acknowledge both.
Umm...with all due respect, he was also extremely arrogant and completely malicious to the natives. And TBH, he wasn't even "the first" person to discover the New World. Icelandic vikings found it first and named it Vinland.
Also, our continent is not named Columbica -- it's named AMERICA, after Amerigo Vespucci, another explorer.

@bundangbear In Mexico, they might refer to this as Dia de la Raza but not everybody whose is of Hispanic origin is not mixed.I am a white.Much of this genocide you speak of was caused by diseases brought from the old world by the Spaniards and not by the few Spaniards killing the native populations (which out numbered the Spaniards in masses.) in such places like Cuba.Speaking of Cuba ,what about the genocide El Che committed in La Cabaña prison. The first recorded smallpox outbreak in Hispaniola occurred in December 1518 or January 1519.
I'm not gonna argue the character of Columbus, but you don't really make a substantial argument here. And playing the Godwin card right off the bat? Columbus is as responsible for the atrocities of Cortés or de Soto as John Adams was for those of Andrew Jackson (or, to play the Godwin right back, Hitler's grandfather for Hitler's) -- sure, the actions of the former in each case made the latters' possible, but causality isn't exactly responsibility.
@bundangbear I did. As I said, I'm not going to argue or defend Columbus' character -- he was a bit fanatical, sure, but also under orders from the Spanish crown, so it's hard to know where one of those ends and the other begins. But ranting about how he's tantamount to Hitler is just foolish, especially when others (like, as I mentioned before, Cortés and de Soto) did far, *far* worse.
he will, and i will go against america. and you luck, we dont need - and racist patriots like you, well...have a good life. we dont need you. read some howard zinn novels and learn the true history. (A)(E)
All the Native Indians who live in my area do nothing but drink all day and collect gov't cheques. They have absolutely no interest in progessing or nothing. But I don't give a fuck i still drink with em, hell, they even sometimes buy me beer sometimes
@Anibalruido: Thanksgiving doesn't celebrate a murderous, genocidal, megalomaniac or anything like that! The first Thanksgiving was a day of celebration in much the same way that it is celebrated today.
But, I agree wholeheartedly that Columbus Day should be abolished! "Hitler Day" is an excellent analogy...
I see your arguement that the American Holiday of Columbus day is celebrating genocide is faulty logic. By your own statement that Columbus did not even land in North America, or himself commit any genocide to its peoples. And you admit that the people he did bring genocide and slavery to, celebrate it as a mixing of culture. I do agree that Columbus day should be abolished due to being irrelevant to the United States, there are plenty of better explorers that actually went to North America.
We probably could never get them to drop the day as a holiday... I think it should be changed to Columbus Day - The National Day of Mourning. Make it a day to reflect on the atrocities. Not only those done by Columbus either.
@PeteLogan69 Exactly. Oh, and he discovered people to make into slaves. I made this vid 2 years ago, and I'm making one again this Columbus Day. This time, I am simply going to read some quotes from his logs, in an entirely unbiased fashion. It will still, of course, be shocking.
The Natives that encountered European settlers saw us as a Rival Tribe and they waged War on us. Stop resurrecting a War that the Indians lost. They were not the only losers. These Natives were used by the French and the British and they were not innocent. European nations fought amongst themselves to establish a foothold in the New World. The Native Indians, the Dutch, the Spanish and the French wound up on the losing side of American History.
Christopher Columbus brought civilization to "scralings". The natives that he encountered did not have the concept of land ownership nor the concept of a family unit.
The Vikings came & left 600 years earlier because they found no suitable place to trade or to perform commerce and no suitable society. The Vikings met and interfaced with the native indians and they were NOT impressed. They called them "scralings". Columbus stayed and is villified?

@bundangbear The thing that's being celebrated is the first contact between the Europeans and the indigenous Americans. If it weren't for Christopher Columbus, western civilization as we know it would not exist. The following genocide has absolutely nothing to do with it.
But I love Columbus Day! - you are kind of a joke. I just imagine Columbus being this insane maniacal character that you describe. Someone should make a movie about this and Jack Nicholson should play Columbus but do it in the Joker make up from Batman. "Wait'll these natives get a load of me" he'd say looking into the camera underneath a gigantic purple and green feathered sailor hat. There wouldn't be a silly super hero to save the day though. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Hey fatty american that eats burgers, without him you would never live, and wouldn't be eating tasty burgers. And accept, your country also killed people, MORE THAN US.
Just so you know, columbus first landed on san salvador island (guanahanni) to the native tainos, in the bahamas, however the first city built by columbus and his men was on the island of hispaniola, in santo domingo, dominian republic. I agree with what you are saying about that piece of shit columbus, and how is it that they teach kids that he discovered america, as in usa?. i never understood that one, anyway, nice video. Preach on
if people want to celebrate columbus day they can and if people dont like it they can protest it or have their own parade and yes this is america so people can celebrate what ever the hell they want shit people could have a hitler day if they wanted but it wouldnt be all that popular
you should not be saddened about your heritage we are who we are. we are not meant to carry the burden of the sins of our fathers what happened, happened its in the past we need to just move on and if they want a parade let them have it if u dont like it protest it that the way of the american people
Just have a day of mourning.... as Russell Means suggested for Thanksgiving... it should still be recognized....just .... the story needs to be retold.
@italianpride9 Ho studiato a Roma per sei mesi. Ci è molta altra grande gente italiana come Da Vinci, Michelangelo, de Medici. Perché honor un assassino?
Hitler, Columbus and many others are probably in hell. Where they should be. Murder is murder, always has been, always will be. I am saddened that am part German, I am not proud of that, but I had nothing to do with it. My grandmother was Sioux, i am proud of that. They are wonderful, strong, people. They have had enough done to them, why celebrate Columbus day? They don't even have a holiday. They don't even have their lands, it was all stolen from them. This is another slap in the face.
American history celebrates nothing but violence and wars to being with, so it seems fitting that a pillager like Columbus would have his day too. Even the National anthem is a celebration of bombings and wars. History makes it sound like America was this vast "barren" land without inhabitants until Columbus came on the scene. Why do so many people wantt to celebrate a man and his crew that were murders, rapist and pillagers? American history is full of crap!!!!!
So in conclusion I'm going to give you a scenario.. I discover a place were people already live I establish myself with those people and I'm well liked by them. I go back and tell other people, they decide to move in and murder them all, How the fuck could I be responsible for that?.. I would be, if those people were english, the? same thing happened to columbus, English are the founding fathers that's why you won't read in most history books that their responsible for any atrocities
How can you compare colombus to a dizgraziatio like hitler, hitler is a man who commenced a holocaust all colombus did was discover new land and he tells people of it and they put him in jail and tried to conquer it. hitler wanted to create a race of pure aryan blood by wiping out all other races, you got some balls comparing a great man like colombus to a jerkoff like hitler
@nylifestyle that wasn't all columbus did?! He &his men Raped Indigenous women, burned villages, feed babies to alligators, kidnapped children, Sold people as slaves to Portugal, Murdered hundreds and thousands of African and Indigenous Native peoples.
I agree with you. The Indians were not the Savages...that would be the whites. The Natives didn't even scalp until they saw it being done by the whites. They were brutal. There should not be a Columbus Day...he was a muderer and a slavetrader. The history is there for the reading. The indians do not even have a holiday. What's wrong with this world? Oh excuse me, it started in 1492.
@nylifestyle..it doesnt matter that in "your" eyes Columbus' atrocities seem less vicious than those of Hitler, both were wrong. What difference does it make if you steal $400 and i steal $4,000, wrong is wrong. You cant try to put crimes against people on a scale and determine who is worse. Both Columbus and Hitler were vicious individuals that spearheaded mans inhumanity to man. Stop waving the flag!!!!!!
Las Casas and other dissenting Spaniards from the colonial period gave vivid descriptions of the atrocities inflicted upon the natives. the Spanish? rulers in the Americas had economic reasons to be unhappy at the high mortality rate of the indigenous population, since nearly all of them wanted the natives as laborers to help support the Spanish economy.
I'm not of native american blood, persay, but I was born in America and therefore consider myself a Native American. Discuss.

TheCsel 1 year ago
We probably could never get them to drop the day as a holiday... I think it should be changed to Columbus Day - The National Day of Mourning. Make it a day to reflect on the atrocities. Not only those done by Columbus either.

It's only a discovery if there was no people in the Americas already. The only thing Columbus discovered is that he was lost.
PeteLogan69 1 year ago

Bund angryBear, Your Nuts are twisted.

Just because his arrival marked the beginning of a genocide doesn't mean that a day commemorating him is celebrating said genocide.
4gl2u 1 year ago
@4gl2u Metaphorically, yes, it does.
bundangbear 1 year ago 5

Preach on

Bonnice53 1 year ago
American history celebrates nothing but violence and wars to being with, so it seems fitting that a pillager like Columbus would have his day too. Even the National anthem is a celebration of bombings and wars. History makes it sound like America was this vast "barren" land without inhabitants until Columbus came on the scene. Why do so many people wantt to celebrate a man and his crew that were murders, rapist and pillagers? American history is full of crap!!!!!

How can you compare colombus to a dizgraziatio like hitler, hitler is a man who commenced a holocaust all colombus did was discover new land and he tells people of it and they put him in jail and tried to conquer it. hitler wanted to create a race of pure aryan blood by wiping out all other races, you got some balls comparing a great man like colombus to a jerkoff like hitler
nylifestyle 1 year ago
@nylifestyle that wasn't all columbus did?! He &his men Raped Indigenous women, burned villages, feed babies to alligators, kidnapped children, Sold people as slaves to Portugal, Murdered hundreds and thousands of African and Indigenous Native peoples.
RayShorty011 1 year ago 2
@RayShorty011
Bonnice53 1 year ago
